Stayed one night with my daughter. Shown to a room with beautiful views. Place very tired and in desperate need of an upgrade. Staff very friendly and had a fabulous lunch. Had to ask to have the sheets changed on one of the beds as there were hairs on display when the quilt was pulled back. Also, the pillow was flat and case creased. The sheets and case were changed almost immediately.

The charge of £150 for the night was way off the mark as this is possibly the most tired accommodation that we've stayed in. Marked it 4 star for the view, the lunch and the staff.

We spent a long golfing weekend at the Russell Hotel - 2 golfers and 2 non golfers. The hotel is close to the courses and the owner and staff were helpfull in getting our golf sorted.
The rooms were plenty big enough and very clean.
The highlight was the superb food. The arbroath smoky I had for breakfast was superb and the dinner was a treat - mussles and venison among the best ever.
Highly recommended.

Room was hideously small I couldn't even get my suitcase inside.. No elevator so we had to cart our bags all the way up the stairs! It was by far the worst accommodation I've stayed in so far whilst in Scotland!

My golf group of 12 friends traveled to the Russell Hotel in June, 2012. During our stay, we experienced the best of Scottish hospitality, fine food, conversations at the inviting pub bar, and best of all... a short downhill walk to the first tee at the Old Course.

Proprietor Gordon and his entire staff made us feel like we were home from the moment we checked in. Given the size of our group, we pretty much had the run of the place and were able to come and go comfortably throughout the days and nights.

The bay rooms on the third floor offer great views of the entire coast of St. Andrews. We dined one evening in the restaurant and enjoyed a 4-star experience at very reasonable prices. Excellent wine list and the mussels steamed in coconut milk were the favorite starter course.

I have traveled all around the world and can confidently say that the Russell Hotel sets the bar if you want an intimate, friendly lodging experience.

Room Tip: Room 11 is a great bayview room. Gordon is a fantastic host.

Had a lovely bar meal here. Go everytime we visit St A's. Food tasty and good quality, staff friendly and nothing to much trouble. Good location close to golf and beach. Can be busy, best to book.

We have just returned from a stay at the Russell last weekend, which was very pleasant due in the main part to the staff, from heating our baby's bottle to offering advice on whiskey, nothing was too much trouble for them. We arrived late evening and hadn't booked in for dinner, both restaurant and bar area was fully booked but the staff juggled the tables around to fit us in, our breakfast table was set up with a high chair for us and we were offered the opportunity to order from the restaurant menu (vice bar meals) when in the bar due to restaurant being fully booked.

The hotel is a clean, pleasant, traditional guest house on the sea front and a 2 minute walk to the town centre. Our family room which was on the second floor was a little cramped due to having both double and single beds as well as a cot in there, I’m sure without the cot there would have been ample space to move around. The double bed was a little creaky and the whole hotel was very warm at times. Tea & coffee facilities were available in the rooms which were cleaned and had towels changed each day.

As I alluded to above both bar area and restaurant are very popular which is a testament to the quality of food served and i would advise you book early.

I would have no hesitation in booking the Russell should we visit St Andrews again.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms at the front of the hotel are have amazing views across St Andrews Bay

After a visit to the British Golf museum we wondered around looking for a place to have lunch and stumbled across this gem. Lovely and helpful staff, scrummy grub and very reasonably priced. From jacket pots, Panini’s to fish and chips and lambs liver, it suited all pockets and all tastes. I recommend the ice cream for dessert, we shared a desert and it was more than enough (and I love my food).
