We had previously stayed at Hotel Du Vin in Glasgow and really wanted to see some of the other hotels. We got the bus from Glasgow and the hotel was no more than a 5 minute from the bus station. We were greeted by the very friendly paul 'the porter', who was very friendly and chatted very genuinely whilst we waited to check in. We were shown to our room, a superior sea view, and having stayed at a Hotel Du Vin before, we had some preconceived ideas about what the room would be like, which were met. The rooms in Glasgow I think are a bit more luxurious, but the view we had more than made up for it. I think we spent most of our time enjoying it. We had gotten a deal with the hotel that included a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine. To be frank, we were bit overwhelmed with the menu, but we both got Soup Du Jor (Tomato and Basil, little spicier than anticipated) and the 'onglet' steak with chips and finally profiteroles for dessert. All was lovely, but the steak was amazing, one of the best I have ever had. We had a lovely server named Flo, who really went above in terms of customer service. Made us feel very at home. We got a drink at the bar following dinner, which was £12 for a sailor jerry and coke, and a hendricks and lemonade which we thought to be a bit extreme. We also got breakfast as part of the deal, that we made a point of catching following the great dinner.

Overall, a very lovely stay.

Came here for an anniversary treat on the opening offer. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and the room was great size with excellent views across to the sea. The bed was huge and comfy and the room had a huge walk in shower, no bath but wouldn't have used it anyway.
A few gripes to be had - the lighting in the hotel reception and bar area is such that it's really difficult to read anything. There was confusion about the offer we had, included a free bottle of wine but we were charged for it and had to get the bill re-issued on check out. Lastly our room was on the 1st floor at the front and we were treated to a lot of noise from the Ma Bells pub in the basement at 2am which carried on until after 2.30am with a serenade of Hey Jude badly sung. The heat of the room (no heating on, checked that) meant that we had to have the windows open all night. With the windows closed the noise was blocked out and even though you could only open the windows about 2 inches it was enough to get all the noise from the pub. This wasn't even a weekend stay either, it was a Monday night.
Overall enjoyed the stay and would stay again despite the gripes.

Room Tip: For a good view ask for a sea facing room but be prepared to have late night/early morning noise fro...

After looking around St Andrews town and the Old Golf Course we were in need of refreshment. At tea time there were few venues for tea and coffee but the Hotel Du Vin met our needs. The service was good and was good value in nice comfortable surroundings.

Recommend the Sunday Brunch. Very comfortable surroundings and the waiting staff who attended to us were lovely - friendly and efficient. The Brunch consists of 4 courses, including soup of the day, a help yourself assortment of breads, croissant, pickles, salads, meats, seafood and sauces. This is followed by a choice of main (I had the roast beef and it was beautifully tender and presented with a small pan of gravy, roasted vegetables and the best Yorkshire puddings I have tasted in a long time). To round off the 4 course meal I had profiteroles which were lovely. The atmosphere was relaxed and the view of the beaches and out to sea was very nice. The bill came to just under £70 for brunch for two, including one large bottle of mineral water, one alcoholic cocktail and one coffee. Visited this establishment after reading positive food reviews online and in the the press and was not disappointed. Luckily we got the car parked practically right outside on the street. St Andrews can be a nightmare for parking but we had no problems on this occasion. I am not local to the St Andrews area, but will certainly be making the journey down to Fife again, hopefully soon, to enjoy this lovely hotel once more.

We have stayed at Hotel Du Vin on a number of previous occasions in Edinburgh & Newcastle & had eagerly awaited the opening of this branch. So we booked a bed, breakfast & evening meal with wine opening offer.

Firstly the hotel. When you enter it is not immediately obvious where the Reception desk is. The heating certainly works here and the corridors especially were hot. Our room faced South and also was so warm that we needed to have the windows open. Nothing obviously wrong with that until the kitchen starts for breakfast in the morning. Once you are awake there is no chance of going back to sleep due to the noise of the kitchen ventilation system (and also later on the building work that was still going on at the time. Generally a lack of attention to detail - tv location/room layout - lack of proximity of power socket, mirror & light for those of you who need to use hair drier, straighteners etc. (amazing how many places cannot seem to achieve this simple requirement) - bathroom layout. Oh, and the decorators were still in on the following morning, as witnessed by the white stripe down the sleeve of my sweater.

Secondly the restaurant. The waiting staff did not seem aware of the deal that we were on & there was confusion between the various staff members as to whether we had to select from the fixed menu or the a la carte. Our understanding, which proved correct, was that it was the fixed menu but with the option to take a course from the a la carte subject to a given limit. (I guess we may have confused them a little by having our daughter dine with us although she was not staying at the hotel.) Anyway we got there in the end and the standard of food was very good. So to the check out on the following morning & we were presented with a bill for three fixed price menus as well as our daughter's a la carte selection and bottle of wine. To be fair this was rectified to our satisfaction, albeit after a bit of toing and froing of the staff.

Our visit was at the end of April and we understand that the hotel had been open for at least a couple weeks beforehand so we were disappointed that its operation was, at best, like an opening night. Our daughter is studying at St. Andrews so we will be back but we will wait a few months before coming back to HdV so that by then they will have got all their staff and their operation "up to speed" and the paint will be dr1

(The following was taken from a letter I wrote to the hotel manager after we had a lovely long weekend up in St Andrews Hotel Du Vin recently. Our group age ranged from 51 to 75 and two had some sort of special need. Most are from Scotland, two, including the writer, are American and resident in Scotland. We reserved 7 rooms.)

We had such a good time up at your hotel recently, the whole crowd of us, family and friends alike.
Our time there was fun, people totally relaxed and enjoyed each other's company wherever it might have been: in the dining room; lounge bar trying out the cocktails; walking on the beach and/or shopping. Plus some of our group decided to check out the local pubs!
The staff at your place are exceptionally good. They showed real respect for each other and the various jobs people performed, they were incredibly knowledgeable in 'local flavour' and I can't tell you how many times they were right there willing and able to help.
The housekeeping staff were wonderful and always available to help, which they did for us daily.
The bar staff made the whole group of us wonderful cocktails on the Friday early evening and their knowledge of my favourite drink, the Old Fashion, was super.
The dining room management and assistants were in top form the whole time we were there and once again, always willing to support our dining plans and serve the excellent meals we were fortunate to taste. The menus were exceptionally good and very reasonable.
We were often at the reception desk, saying hello and sharing some of our daily news with them. They were fun to be around and showed not only interest in their jobs but a real knack re technology. Plus they were able to help keep my brother's instant ice/gel packs frozen and ready to go, which in our case made all the difference for him being able to move around. He'd injured his right knee only a couple of days before the trip.
One of your younger staff members was excellent in patience and understanding with helping those in our group who needed that extra little support.
Once again, thank you Niall and your staff for the lovely time we all had there in St Andrews.
The three of us organisers hope to go up again for a few days maybe in October or November so we'll be in touch at a later date about that.
The hotel looks just great and we loved the changes and improvements.
Yours sincerely
J, J and J from Glasgow

We visited Hotel Du vin on Saturday 10 May. We had arrived about lunchtime and weren't sure of check in time which was 3.00pm, but our room was ready and we were allowed to check in right away. We were greeted with Paul "the Porter", I know you couldn't make it up. He was very friendly, helping us to our room with our bags. Our room was lovely with everything that you could possibly need. We were booked in for B&B, breakfast was excellent with so much to choose from, I opted for the eggs benedict with smoked salmon, superb, my husband had the kipper which he said was very good. Good location for town. We had a fantastic stay and will certainly visit again.

Room Tip: We were in the Fargan room which was facing the town but very quiet and peaceful.
