The home of golf and a top class hotel what more can you ask for? From arrival to departure nothing was too much trouble, polite courteous staff who knew you by name. I had an issue with my initial room which was dealt with very efficiently with minimal fuss. Service from every department and level of the hotel was faultless. Location next to the Old course, a short walk up the 17th and 18th into town. The fastest free Wi-Fi I have ever had access too other hotels should learn from this! You don't get 5 stars for nothing, I seriously recommend this hotel for all of its services and amenities, would love to stay in the same room overlooking the 17th when a major tournament is being played.

Room Tip: Get a suite overlooking the course

This is my second stay at this fabulous hotel. From the moment you arrive and are welcomed at the reception with a man in a kilt to the moment you leave, guests are made to feel welcomed and appreciated. The rooms are great and insist on one with a view over the Old Course. The food is excellent. I love the swimming pool and waterfall. The room is clean and fresh and the maid turns down your bed and makes sure the bathroom is tidy with razor, foam and toothbrush all lined up !!
The service is first class - a special treat for a trip to St Andrew's !

Room Tip: Any with a view of the course

Lovely hotel, very smart entrance and a warm welcome from concierge and reception staff. Rooms not huge but very well equipped, great bath tub although bathroom a little cramped. Spa facility is just what you need after a long day on the golf course. Drinks in hotel VERY pricey, go to the hotels pub, The Jigger Inn, best to book if you want food as it's not big but the beer and the food very good. Special mention for the pub manageress, Genevieve, lovely warm funny lady, had us crying with laughter and quite made our night.
Must also mention the exceptional service we received from the golf stewards at the hotel, Steve in particular organised my partners golf trip (which was a special birthday trip) with no problems at all. Many many thanks!
Final word about breakfast, couldn't believe our luck getting window seats and probably the nicest breakfast ever overlooking the Old course, brilliant all round.

Room Tip: Has to be an Old course room for the view.

My husband, our 13 year old son and I had an unbelievable experience at the Old Course Hotel. We are golfers, so we came for the golf and were thrilled to wake up each morning and see the Old Course of St. Andrews outside our window. The course can also be viewed from the dining room which is the Road Hole Restaurant, and the bar. The rooms are beautiful and well done, very well kept and clean, the food in the Road Hole Restaurant and the bar is great, the service is wonderful, and the entire hotel is just beautiful. While we came for the golf, we enjoyed plenty of other activities. The concierge, Tom, and his colleagues were fantastic. They arranged a dream day of salmon fishing with Stewart Collingswood from Alba Game Fishing; shooting at the local clay center with George who was great and afternoon tea at the hotel afterward; a drive to the Highlands with a stop at the historic Edradour whiskey distillery; a tour of the historic and charming St. Andrews with June who was wonderful; and dinner reservations at several local restaurants including the memorable Peat Inn. The golf concierges were wonderful also, and arranged golf for us, including easy transport back and forth to the courses, on the courses of St. Andrews, a dream for my family and me. One thing I will note: The golf shop is beautiful with beautiful high quality products, but be aware that the products in the hotel golf shop carry the logo of the Old Course hotel, not the Old Course of the St. Andrews complex. There are separate shops around the 18th hole that carry the certified St. Andrews course products. It was a dream vacation, and we hope to return.

Room Tip: If you would like a view of the Old Course of St. Andrews, make sure that you let them know when yo...

We didn't plan a trip to St Andews but when we arrived in Edingburgh decided to travel a bit further to see the home of Golf. Upon arrival we were tired and needed to relax and unwind. Pulled up at the front of St Andrews and the service stated from there. Excellent service all throughout the Hotel. Greeted with complementary champagne, very friendly and accommodating. Escorted to our room which was nice and walked us through the room showing us the features. This was a great touch as different locations have different shower facilities which take a while to work out. Not what you need when tired and want a hot shower.

Room was fantastic. Big spacious with everything you would expect from 5 star. Bed was beautiful, spacious and comfortable. Wifi, sat tv etc.

Enjoy the hotel and surrounds. The course is public and the locals seem to use its surrounds for leisure. We explored the course and watched many punters play the old course. Badly. Beautiful scenery especially from the resturants, which provided excellent food and service.. Great value for money. Australian dollar is not strong against the Pound but the prices were no more then normal restaurant or pub meals and the food was fine dining. The most friendly staff I have ever met. Nothing was a problem and could be accommodated.

While not a planned trip, we will definitely be returning on a golf trip and spending more time at the Old Course disnt want to leave wanted to stay and play and enjoy the hotel. Best treatment, service and experience on our European trip so far.

Room Tip: On the old course for a spectacular view.

The referrals from golfer friends were exuberant; the reality, not so much. Yes, yes it's the legendary Home of Golf-- the shirts and golf towels scream out in bold print-- but it's become over-commercialized and trite. We played the New Course and experienced the much-touted scruffy, British links golf. I now realize I have to hone in my bump and runs! The hotel services were nothing special; the Kohler Waters Spa is lovely I'll admit but a little too coed for my taste. The afternoon tea in the conservatory is special: hint-- book your stay with Amex Platinum and get complimentary tea for two. I'd say its the perfect golfer guys' getaway but not brilliant (as the Brits say) for couples.
