“Dark, slightly dingy, and almost perfect”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

This pub has that old pub feel, that seems to take you back in time. Yes, it is pub food, but there is a good variety and it is well priced and good quality. There are also great specials. Beer and cider is also well priced. Perhaps the best value are the relatively rare scotches at very good prices (e.g., 30 year old Highland Park, older Glen Farclas). The staff were friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit and a meal for those visiting St. Andrews.

“fantastic value for money, staff and chef.”
Reviewed 6 October 2012

My husband and myself stumbled upon this place and as we had never been to St. Andrews before (embarrising at it is) wondered in here looking for food. We were met by extremely well mannered staff and this was the case for the three of them. Discovering that they had free WiFi we went out to the car for our lap-top. This was a bonus as we were not expecting to be able to park right outside and also get WiFi. Now for the food. We ordered a sharing nachos and it was the best that we have tasted. Ok, it is only nachos but the balance of the ingredients and the presentation and amount were fantastic. We had chilli mince on top and we were pretty full after just sharing a starter. The beer was £3.05 per pint (shandy) and the large glass of wine was amazing vaule at £3.19 per glass (250 mls). In Edinburgh this size is £5.30 aprox!! It tasted fine too. Next was fish and chips. Well, I have never tasted such good fish and chips from a pub. The amount of fish inside the batter was plentiful. Too much for me to finish. This was served with peas. At £6 per dish this is amazing as it is normal to pay £9-£10 for bar food anywhere else. They had steak evenings and other such evenings on a different day of the week. All VERY inexpensive. The music was good in the background. Not too loud and mixed. The staff seemed to be very motivated in my opinion and perhaps the other reviewer caught them on a bad day. Well, we shall be back as we loved our wee day out in St. Andrews and next time we shall be staying for a few days. Guess which pub we shall be visiting? This place left us with fond memories of this pretty town. Special thanks to the chef.

“How to ruin a pub”
Reviewed 3 October 2012

Having gone back to St Andrews to visit some friends we soon found our old favoured place of beveraging had been changed. Undeterred we tried to make the best of it, bars changing over in St Andrews is pretty standard, but we just couldn't stand it. Dark, dreary, unmotivated staff (the place was dead but they still showed no care or impetus for the people putting the money in the tills). Didn't try food so can't comment there and, in all fairness, the prices weren't terrible, but the overall experiance was one to be avoided.

“A Great Find”
Reviewed 30 August 2012

After noticing changes with The Blue Stane, decided to try it again and I was pleasantly surprised. The food, service and overall feel of the place have changed since I was last in, the staff are very organised and were very helpful. Overall a rapidly improving venue and one which I will definitely be back at quicker than before. Long may the new direction continue
