We looked in for a pre lunch drink when on a day out in lovely St. Andrews . Friendly staff, good selection of beers in a welcoming bar. Would visit again.

When walking around St Andrews we left the chaos of the main street behind and walked on down to the old city gate to have a look. Here we discovered the Drouthy Neebors which means "Thirsty Neighbours" in old Scots.

Ordered chicken and mushroom soup and panini's. The soup was home made and really fantastic nearly a meal on its own and the panini was a good well filled panini all served by a waitress who had a real sense of humour and knew what she was doing.

If you want to have a cheap lunch or brunch I suggest you find this place and give it a go. The choice is off a traditional local pub menu, the portions would feed a highlander and the cost suits a scottish purse holder all served with a smile... what better can you get really.

Enjoy

It's fair to say that this isn't St Andrews trendiest spot, however the food and drink was spot on. The pub sells a decent range of local real ales and the St Andrews Crief was excellent.

We had home made nachos and Cullen skink for starters, both were excellent, especially the home made nacho chips. Our main courses were haddock and chips, homemade steak pie and gammon steak. The haddock was excellent with a tempura like batter, the steak pie was very decent pub fare and the gammon steak go too. The portion sizes were excellent leaving no room for a pudding.

The wine list, like the menu, didn't have loads of choice bid had a decent spread, the Rioja was just the job and very reasonably priced.

Whilst it was a Saturday it wasn't too, busy, which suited us fine. The three members of staff were brilliant, very attentive and gave great customer service.

We will be back.

Good food and good value for money. We had salmon pate starter and creamy garlic mushrooms starter followed by steak pie. We were passing through and were pleased to have found this pub for a quick meal but one to back too.

My Husband and I had a wonderful day in St Andrews and finished off with a memorable meal at the Drouthy Neebors. We were welcomed by a very cheerful young lady who took our drinks order while we studied the menu. My Husband had the soup of the day which was Pea & Mint while my choice was the Cullen Skink which was delicious. We both then had the Haddock again great choice. Fish was perfectly cooked in a light crispy batter with crispy chips, side salad & peas. My Husband would have loved to have the dessert special which was strawberries & cream but we were both too full. (next time).
This is a place you must try if you are in the area. Fabulous food, excellent service & great value.
