We bought various pastries to enjoy and all of them were exquisite, but we went back for the fudge gazed doughnut (which they told us they were known for). By far the best bakery in town, if not the best one in Scotland.

We loved the cakes and sweets. Everything we tried was delicious. The staff were very nice. Another day of our trip, we visited the shop in Cupar. That is how good the food was - twice in a week!!

Just go, you won't be disappointed. Cakes that will make your day! I recommend the strawberry tarts. Everything is fresh and tasty. It's a St Andrews institution.

As a trucker I get a bad rep for eating cakes and pies all the time, neither of which I do. But made an exception when on a day out with the Mrs who dragged me to this bakers. Great donuts, full of custard and topped with fudge icing, messy and massive mind you, could feed a family, and who knows how many kalories?

In a land swamped with chain outlets, it's nice to find a small, local provider.

So many bakeries we found in Scotland offered low quality, cheaply made rubbish. How refreshing, to find a place that produces quality and is proud of their work. The shop front display shouts out just how good everything is here.

Looking for lunch, we were incredibly lucky to find this fabulous establishment. We had a chicken pie and sausage roll, both with great pastry, flavor and real meat filling. The we spotted the cakes.

Coming from Adelaide, we've been led to believe the frog cake is an invention of Balfour bakery (circa 1922). On asking we were told the bakery dated from 1918, still not clear who has precedence. Not really important anyway.

Either way, the fog cakes were great. (They gave us one as a sample). Even better was the pineapple tart/cake. Fabulous short crumbly pastry and tasty filling, not too sweet. The pinnacle for me though, was the fudge doughnut. I'd planned to just have the pineapple..... the fudge doughnut was exquisite. Light fluffy doughnut batter, tasty icing and creamy filling.... I can't even describe the flavor except brilliant!

If you're in St Andrews, or passing their other shops, give them a go. Hopefully you'll be as pleased as us.

Thank Robert B
