Loved this house. Couldn't be more central in St. Andrews with everything an easy walk. From sitting at the window seat in the lounge people watching (and being amazed at the waist length hair of some of the Madras schoolboys) to popping across the road to buy the most amazing chilli and cheese bread in the specialist cheese shop, eating amazing food in The Adamson (and meeting the Masterchef contestant who works there) to walking along the beautiful east coast of Scotland the whole experience was fabulous. The house itself is very well equipped and truly a home from home. The whole family agreed we would definitely go back.
Rose cottage is an ideal centre for getting to know St Andrews and its environs. Its position at the heart of the University town allows visitors easy access to everything and everywhere and it is easy to get into the surrounding countryside, especially the golf courses!
The cottage is maintained to a very high standard. It was immaculate and well equipped and the kitchen quite amazing - one could cater for the largest of house parties. Equipment is brand new and the proliferation of TVs and DVD players, plus bedside radios and clocks, thoughtful. Comfortable beds and quality linen with excellent bathrooms and and shower rooms make sharing with others hassle free, and the lay out over three floors means it is possible to get away from your companions and to have peace and quiet. the stairs are wide and been fit from the hand rail. Everywhere is carpeted and in colder weather I am sure it is a very cosy place to stay. Bedrooms are large enough for visitors to keep their golf bags with them should this for a reason for staying at the cottage!
furniture is modern and comfortable. The cottage is not overcrowded and is tastefully finished. There are guide books and DVDs and almost everything one would find at 'home' to make things easy.
Parking on the main street is relative easy at the right times of day and overnight although in high season - and we were there in early August - you have to take pot luck, preferring sometimes to leave your car in the nearby car park - a few minutes walk. Shops are incredibly close, and there is an excellent variety in the town.
Ideal for adults, families would have have to be prepared to walk out with children to exercise as there is no garden or courtyard. We did not find this a problem - indeed it made one explore the little historic corner of St Andrews that is home to the lovely Rose Cottage.
