Our niece got married at St Andrews so we stayed here for two nights. On our arrival the staff could not have been more welcoming both to us and our dog. We immediately felt at home. The room was most comfortable with everything that you would need. We met other members of the family who were dining in the restaurant and told us that the food was extremely good. At the time it was fully booked so we went to the bar in the annex and had a very good meal there. I had steak that was cooked to perfection ( I am very fussy ). We had a very good nights sleep and a very good breakfast where you could pick and choose what you wanted and as much tea or coffee as we wanted, and no pressure to finish either. The service was marvelous. It felt like a 5* hotel.

My teenage daughter and I spent the night here before an open day at St. Andrews university and we couldn't have been better looked after. We arrived fairly late after a long train journey and were made immediately welcome. Our room in the annexe had everything we needed, and the beds were extremely comfortable. My one quibble would be the temperature - the room was pretty cold and the radiator only seemed to be tepid. Luckily there were extra blankets in the wardrobe which did the job and we both slept extremely well. No problems with the temperature of the water or the bathroom radiator - both as hot as could be. Breakfast was in the adjoining Playfair restaurant and was delicious (particularly the salty porridge) as well as being served by charming staff. Check-out was at a reasonable 10.30 a.m. and we were able to leave our luggage in the store until the end of the day. On paying the bill for our 'room only' I was surprised to find no charge for breakfast. 'Good heavens' said the delightful receptionist, 'we're not going to charge you for a bowl of porridge!' (No matter that the teenager had put away large quantities of toast and we'd both had tea, coffee & juice). Finally, they booked us a cab to catch the train in the evening, and then rebooked for a slightly earlier time in case the constant rain had affected the road to the station. It was a most happy stay and I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Our stay simply couldn't have been any better. Our room was cosy and very clean with an excellent view. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was well cooked and filling with as much tea/coffee and toast as we required. The dining room has been majorly renovated since our last stay (alas no more tartan walls). On the plus side they now have a very friendly and very pretty Rachel and Pippa. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: We had room 38, nice and handy for the reception, bar and dining room. Excellent view of the sea.

We arrived last minute, and the receptionist was most helpful. Granted we were last minute however there were a few things that need improving, we were given a standard double, which we knew would be small. The room was clean and appeared fine. We did not dine in the restaurant, however came back to the restaurant for a drink. There was no prosecco or champagne so we ordered alternative drinks - the wine being complimentary as they could not provide any fizz. The "manager" had a very poor attitude and made us feel uncomfortable whilst there. On retiring to our room we went to fill water glasses and brown water came out, I went down to the bar and thankfully the Bar staff gave me a complimentary bottle of water.
The bed was comfortable, however we were woken on frequent occasions by residents upstairs going to the bathroom and hearing the water etc down the pipes. The down pipe was right out side our window.
Breakfast was good and staff very attentive, the black pudding however was swimming in oil.
Overall our stay was good, and we'd give the hotel another go, however some flaws need addressing,

Room Tip: Don't go for a small double or king!!

Thank you for your review, while I am pleased to read the positive aspects of your stay, it is disappointing to read your comments about the service you received in the bar.

Unfortunately we had a wedding party in the previous night that purchased over a month’s worth of champagne and prosecco. I have since spoken to the member of staff on duty, and as she felt bad not be able to provide the “fizz” she gave you two complimentary drinks, as a goodwill gesture, to which on reflection I feel was a generous offer.

We have since looked at the water supply on several different occasions in the room you stayed in and haven’t experience brown water out of the taps, but we will keep monitoring this.

We hope to welcome you back soon.
