I stayed here last week in July and found the hotel to be very friendly, accomodating and comfortable. Stayed in room 35, they classed this under "a small double room", booked this one due to the price, I found it to be of good size, a standard double bed, enough room to walk up one side with a chest of drawers on the other side, it had a desk, chair and LCD tv. Bathroom was of satisfactory size. Fantasic shower. It was as advertised and my partner and myself thought it was ideal for a couple nights stay. Only down side was the stairs, but it is an old house converted to a hotel so was surprised.
I would return to this hotel if I stayed again in St Andrews

No onsite parking, very small room, more or less in the attic and I understand that this is a converted Georgian Townhouse and that they didn't have the mind to put in an elevator but it is a long way up four flights of stairs with heavy bags.

Wouldn't recommend due to the price versus the size of the room, think a Paris hotel and you would be close.

A great recommendation by some golfing friends. The Ardgowan Hotel is not only perfectly placed for all the attractions of St Andrews but is a small professionally run privately owned establishment that offers great value.

Everywhere is spotlessly clean and well presented and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We have just stayed there (4 guys) on a 5 day golfing trip and it was perfect in every way but is equally ideally for mixed parties. The only small complaint is the size of the rooms as most seemed to be a little small but this was more than made up by the friendly staff, excellent breakfasts and a bar with plenty of ambience. I am sure that we will return to enjoy the many golf courses that abound in St Andrews.

We stayed here for a night and found this hotel to be ideal for our needs. Hotel was very well presented, room, warm, pleasant and comfortable for needs.
As we were eating out elsewhere and having a night on the town we were looking for a comfortable room with a nice hearty breakfast following morning in preference to leisure facilities, restaurant in hotel or entertainment or other facilities.
Room had everything we needed, Playfairs Restaurant and bar was very comfortable, enjoyed a couple of drinks and friendly chat with staff.
No spectacular sea views or super luxury but we didn't need any of those to thoroughly enjoy our stay over.
Ardgowan comes recommended on these points alone and hopefully others can advise on the other features of the hotel that we didn't use or for longer stay.
Parking could be a bit of a lucky dip, limited street parking in vicinity but we were very lucky as it turned out with free spot in the car park along street adjacent Greyfriars so all smiles for us.

Everything is written in stone in regard to this establishment, breakfast time 7.30 am to 9am (no deviation) Not much use to golfers getting an early time on the Old Course or elsewhere. You are supplied with a breakfast bag, which fairly describes it!! Restaurant facilities fine, food good , cannot be said for wine which is overpriced

The Ardgowan hotel was an excellent place to stay for our golf pilgrimage to Scotland. Jim the Manager helped us with the ballot for the Old Course and from check-in to check-out it was a great experience.
The room was clean and bright and spacious and the restaurant and staff were top notch.
Easily one of the best things about this hotel is the less than 3 minute walk to the Old course and you need to experience the showers............... the shower in our room had the best water pressure I have ever seen / felt in my life.

This hotel certainly helped to make our trip to St.Andrew's a memorable one.

We stayed here for two nights whilst visiting our son at the university. The staff were absolutely charming especially Colin who greeted us when we arrived and served drinks behind the bar and filled us in with local knowledge.R
The rooms were spotlessly cleanand the beds very comfortable.Breakfast that is included in the price was freshly cooked to order and delicious. The location is ideal fot golfers and non golfers alike.
