Returned from an overnight stay on 23.11.13 on a DBB package. I cannot rate the experience highly enough, after reading numerous negative reports, of cold food, dried up breakfast buffet, luke warm tea, dirty rooms, missing hair dryers, poor pool facilities etc etc I couldn't disagree more, from the moment we arrived our expeience was exceptional, room ready and spotless, used the gym, swimming pool and sauna, went for an a evening meal at Esperante, food and service again up to the high standrads experienced throughout the hotel. My wife used the Spa (2 treatments on Sunday 24th) and rated these as excellent value with great staff !! Our whole experience was fantastic and cannot wait to return. A special note to all the staff, from doorman, reception, gym, spa, bars and restaurant, everyone was very helpful and polite. Thank you.

Just had a wee one night treat for the mrs birthday. A great friendly welcome, chocolates and cards from the staff, she had a great treat in the spa. Good leisure facilities. Mrs has a food allergy and the evening meal and breakfast were smooth and well catered for. The view over St. Andrews and the golf was amazing

I attended a conference at the Fairmont in mid-November 2013. This was my first time at the Fairmont. I had no idea that this corner of Fife had SUCH an exceptional hotel and conference venue.

This is a fabulous hotel, with first rate facilities all the way. Throughout the day all the staff at the Fairmont were outstanding; attentive, polite, pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. In particular, the AV / teccie staff who assisted in the set-up could not have been more helpful. The lunch was first rate too, with the waiting staff being very professional and attentive.

The venue itself is fantastic – with the main auditorium resembling an airport terminal in scale…..absolutely huge, spacious and inviting. The location of the hotel is superb – with breath-taking views out across St Andrew’s Bay and over the golf course.

A wonderful hotel, with peerless staff in a superb setting.

A stay at the Fairmont won’t be cheap. But if you can afford it…highly recommended.

Had a wonderful one night stay here! Wish we could've stayed longer. Rooms are very nice and clean, spa and pool are nice. Our room had a great view of the sea and golf course, bonus. We were both very excited to eat in a 5 star restaurant (the squire) and was disappointed with the food. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either, not really a 5 star standard. Our waiter was very nice, his name was Brendan, very polite and attentive. We had dinner bed and breakfast which I was shocked when I looked at the bill and we were charged £16.50 to eat in the restaurant, was definitely not worth that!! Overall though had a very pleasant stay and will return!

Service was excellent wherever you were in the hotel. Food was excellent, probably the best breakfast I have had. Waiter in the clubhouse (you would get a nice view in the daylight) got our order wrong twice but nobody is perfect. Beds were not good! Normal double bed and my wife thought she was going to fall out of it throughout the night.

Views? We saw the views of the sea and golf course when we drove in on arrival and drove out the next day. From our bedroom we allegedly (the concierge told us) had a view of the golf course but you would have strained your neck right up at the window to see it! The two bars in the hotel had no view. The swimming pool has great big windows but again no view. The restaurant for breakfast (you can also have dinner) also has no view.... Don't know how the architect got away with such a design. What a waste of beautiful scenery!

Would not return as there are other 5 star hotels in the area to try.

Room Tip: A Sea view room is the only way to get a view. Have dinner in the clubhouse but not when it's d...

We visited the hotel on a business trip. The hotel its self is lovely with, great service, fantastic views. We would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxed getaway. The grounds and views are amazing, and its only 3-4 minutes away from the town centre.

A return visit to the Bay Hotel, as before expecting something a bit special. Certainly the staff were friendly and the room outstanding (deluxe sea view), but a few things let it down. The service at breakfast was somewhat chaotic and, surprisingly for a hotel which likely encourages business travellers, wi-fi is not free. Most disappointing was that the complimentary shuttle bus service now stops early evening, which meant we had to get taxis in and out of St Andrews for dinner, adding over £20 to the bill. This had been one of the services the Bay had over other out of town hotels, but without it I think I'd rather stay at Rufflets.
