“Excellent clean hotel in picturesque location”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

We have stayed in several B&Bs and hotels in St. Andrews over the past four years, and this is our favourite. It is more affordable than the full-fledged hotels, and a notch better than the nearby B&Bs we have tried. Hazelbank smells nice--none of that stale bacon and fusty carpet smell that can pervade smaller B&Bs! It has nice modern clean bathrooms, neat and well decorated rooms, and a generous breakfast service in a light-filled dining room. Next door, there is a pub with light food, and there are also many other excellent restaurants and pubs in and around St. Andrews, so staying in a hotel that does not offer dinner is not an issue. Outside the front door there is a path to the famous beach (important if you like to run or take long windy walks), and the smell of sea air greets you every morning as you step outside. The owners and their staff are all gracious and discreet, willing to chat over breakfast if you want or to leave you alone if you are in need of quiet. The housekeeping staff do an excellent job. On our most recent stay we had a lot of luggage and a jet-lagged teenager, so the mess in the room was unfortunate, but the housekeeper made sense of it without unduly mixing up our items. We are big fans of St. Andrews and would recommend it for a visit filled with history, scenery and charm. If we are able to go back, this hotel will be our first choice.

We had a great stay at Hazelnut
Bank. With a wonderful location very close to the
golf courses and views to the ocean, it was very easy to enjoy. Our room and the en-suite were small but this do not detract from our experience. It would be fun to return.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Hazelbank. Brilliant location...sea and golf course views. Ideally situated for the centre and the golf. Room 7 has a fabulous bay window with panoramic views across the West Sands. Large Superking size bed. Bathroom small but fully equipped. Staff are very friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast freshly cooked to order.Would recommend for everyone!

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have one of the best views in town...at a reasonable price. Room 7 is one.

Really great stay. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and scrumptious breakfasts set you up for the day. Small room but really well maintained and lovely sea view. Great location close to town centre but quiet as well. Close to golf course. Exceptional service from all staff. highly recommended.

I am happy to say myself and 6 other people stayed for 3 days at the Hazelbank and could not have been happier. Michael and his staff were remarkable in every way, making our stay perfect. The location is terrific with views of The Old Course and walking distance to everything. I would recommend The Hazelbank to anyone.

I stayed in a 1-bed on the top floor. The room was plenty sufficient, perhaps on the smaller side but I had no plans to stay in my room in this great town. The hotel is exceptionally clean, the location is terrific and the owners/staff are wonderful. I would absolutely stay again on our next visit. Thanks Marian, Michael, and Susie!

I stayed with my daughter in Room 2, a first floor twin overlooking the sea for one night only on a visit to see her brother at Uni. Having asked if my son could join us for breakfast I was told that would be no problem and it clearly wasn't. An early woken student son was made to feel welcome and the breakfast was much appeciated. All the staff were genuinely friendly and efficient.
Small but much appreciated details make this hotel, such as
- before arrival, the booking was taken on trust with no credit card details asked for;
- upon arrival, a jug of fresh milk was brought to our room on arrival for us to make some tea;
- upon departure owner Michael informed us that 'student breakfasts' as provided for my son were complimentary.
The only matter that was less than satisfactory was a temporary problem with the Wi-Fi reception in our room but upon inquiry I was at once offered use of the hotel computer if needed.
This is without doubt an exceptionally good value, clean, efficient and friendly hotel to which we will return without hesitation.
