Good position for visiting the centre or the West End, entrance to Kelvingrove Park just down the road. Single room not over large, but nicely decorated, clean and a lovely modern bathroom. Bed comfy altho' pillows not too soft. For an old building the dividing walls seemed very thin and there was noise from the adjoining rooms which didn't aid sleep. Breakfast fine, altho' room rather small as were the tables. The receptionist/breakfast maker had to move from one job to the other as people checked out, surely 2 staff needed in the mornings. Staff very pleasant. No lounge area or bar although there was a bar next door which one of our party in a room adjacent found rather noisy. I would certainly use again because of its position.

Room Tip: I had a room on the back which seemed quieter than the others and a more pleasant view.

Having just arrived after an overnight flight, we really appreciated the attentive service of the front desk. The room was not large but adequate with a nice view. The place was clean, although the carpet in our room could do with an upgrade. Parking across the hotel seemed to be always available at around £4 per day. The hotel serves a full (English) breakfast, but the Mews cafe next door accommodates smaller appetites.

We were having a night out with friends in the West End and stayed at the Acorn. Good price, spacious and clean room. Shower was a little cold in the morning, but we slept in a bit so maybe not a lot of hot water left? Did wake slightly earlier than expected as couple in room next to us were having extremely noisy sex. Was quite funny really. A good stay all in all. Decent breakfast also.

Stayed here for one night with my partner as we had a gig to go to and wanted to enjoy some time before & after in glasgow. Stayed in room 8 which was decent sized corner room. Room was clean & bed was comfortable & perfect for our needs. Great location for westend 15/20 mins walk to byres road, close to kelvingrove park & city centre a 20 min walk. Great breakfast also. One minor issue with room, the bathroom door was a heavy weighted fire door meaning it banged shut everytime it closed if you forgot to stop it, a little irritating when you or partner goes to loo through night. Other than that great value hotel with great amenities & lication.

We arrived on the 16th or March 2013 (yesterday). After looking at the excellent reviews and looking online my partner and I were excited for our short over night stay! Upon arrival the woman who served us was friendly. She was knowledgable about the hotel and told us what we had to know regarding the hotel. We were in room 16. Upon entering our room we were met by the overpowering smell of lemons. The room smelled clean! We went in and opened the window for breath as i am prone to migraines that are often triggered by strong scents or poor/strong lighting. No issues though i would rather an overpowering refreshing smell as opposed to a dirty stale smell. Tastefully decorated, modern looking. Straighteners and hairdryer provided, GREAT! The website boasts "complimentary toiletries and tea making facilities." Tea making facilities were fine but toiletries? I don't class hand wash and shower gel in a hand wash bottle as "toiletries". In the past when i have visited 4* "boutique" hotels i have received small complimentary bottles of shampoo and conditioner, small toothpastes etc. Actual toiletries. Not to worry we popped to the shop to buy conditioner and proper shampoo for my hair as shower gel wrecks my hair and drys it out. Lifted the toilet lid to reveal a mark on the toilet seat, a dirty mark. I reluctantly used a make-up wipe to clean this and tried to forget it. When checking the pillows under the cases and duvet these were heavily stained. No issues with the mattress as the protector was clean and the sheet over was clean. The pillow protectors however are in need of replacing but the top sheet was clean so again i ignored this. The bed was comfortable, i had a fair sleep besides the noise of traffic in the morning but this is of no fault of hotel staff. I followed the 'towel guidelines' stuck on the bathroom wall stating dirty towels must be placed in the shower to be cleaned and clean towels on the rail to be reused. I understand this is environmentally friendly. One towel each, a shower mat and small hand towel. I had no towel for my hair and had to use the hand towel. No face cloth either. Dust on top of the headboard, all around skirting boards, the base of the shower where the doors open and close has some grime that could do with a good scub, toilet brush was dirty and in major need of replacing but generally clean not meticulous. There were marks on the wallpaper at the top left corner above the bed from what looks like some sort of leek. Major creeking at the stairs at the top floor and in our room, especially at the left hand side of the bed. This wasn't an issue for me but dont imagine the person below wanted to hear me walking around my room. Breakfast was offered to us at £8 per person, served until 9.30am. We chose not to and were glad we didn't as when checking out we could see what was on offer. Basic continental (fair enough, but at £8 a head!!!!??? i could buy a few boxes of cereal an a loaf and make my own at that price!) we had to check out at 11, i think check out should be 12. I could have had a longer lie at a budget hotel. But non the less at quarter to 11 we were at the reception waiting to check out. Waiting. And we did wait. we rang the bell that states "ring for assistance" 4 times or more. The cleaner saw us as she passed and failed to inform someone we were waiting. Eventually the women who checked us in came and took our key cards before we departed. On departure we noticed a sign stating "best price guaranteed at mquadegroup.com" or something to that effect. However our asking price was £55 and we got this cheaper at £50 on booking.com. I liked the hotel and would return if the price was right but wouldn't pay more that £40-£45 for one night when i felt i had to bring my own toiletries (especially as a girl with there being no conditioner!). I think my expectations were to high with glowing reviews but do feel boasting "free toiletries" and throwing around the term "boutique hotel" made me expect meticulously clean rooms with my every need cared for, i don't allow grime to build up around my shower or dust on my skirting boards and do not expect it somewhere else where i'm paying £50 to spend one single night. Furthermore i don't expect to clean unexplainable brown marks from toilet seats when staying. I would say its over rated. Sorry.

In response to this rather lengthy review, we would like to take the points in order, firstly the remarks regarding the lemon smell in the room, yes we do use air freshener and we do like our rooms to be fresh smelling when guest's arrive, however if you have a problem with strong smells etc then a quick call to the hotel ahead of arrival would have ensured that we would not have been so liberal with it on this occasion. With regard to the comments about "Complimentary toiletries", what is shampoo, shower gel and hand soap but toiletries, they are complimentary in the sense that we do not charge extra for them, we have gone to great lengths to source Paraban free products so that there would be no problem with any allergies. The shampoo/shower gel is a combined product for ease of use in hotels, and we do agree it is not for everyone as all hair is different, however there is no saying that if we had had small bottles of separate items that they would have been any better for your hair. The condition of the bedding seems to have been of some concern, all our actual bed linen is laundered by a professional laundry company, items such as mattress protectors and pillow protectors are changed and washed on a regular basis, it may be that you were in house just as they were due to be done again, since your stay the pillow protectors have been laundered twice. All double rooms are made up as standard with 2 Bath Sheets, 1 Bath Mat and 1 Hand towel, we do not supply face cloths as they are generally regarded in the hotel industry as being unhygienic. If you had asked at reception for another hand towel for your hair that would have been immediately forthcoming with no problems. The toilet brush has been replaced, and the showers were in a maintenance program at the time with all grout, silicone etc being replaced. The mark on toilet seat was inexcusable, but a call down to reception would have brought the Manager up to clean it there was no need for you to do it.Unfortunately creaking floors do come with an old building and despite appearances to the contrary in the rooms the Acorn is a very old building, 110 years to be exact. We do take exception to the remarks regarding breakfast, you are quite correct in stating that breakfast booked in house is £8 per person, however it would seem that you are basing your comments on seeing the cold portion of the breakfast still outon the servery, we have quite an extensive breakfast menu, choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, porridge, toast, fruit juice, tea, coffee, speciality teas, then there is the cooked part of the breakfast, which can be any or ALL of the following, bacon, sausages, black pudding, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, fried bread and eggs which can be either poached, fried or scrambled, so with all that we do not think that a rate of £8 per head is too much. As for our check out time it has been 11am for the last 20 odd years, the majority of hotels are 11am, some are later at 12, but a lot are 10am, there is a notice in reception stating that a later check out time can be requested ast time of check in subject to a small charge. The time of 11am was decided upon as check in is from 1.30 and I am sure you will appreciate that in that time all the rooms have to be done, if we make checkout 12 there is no way we could be ready for check in at 1.30. Regarding waiting to check out, there was no need to wait, you paid on arrival, all you had to do was leave the key card on the desk. Our staff have other duites, especially in the morning and with payment on arrival there is no need to have someone on the desk all morning. We are glad that after all your comments and remarks that you have decided you liked the hotel, but only if next time you got a room at a rate of £40-£45 , considering you only paid £25 per person per night Room only, for a very smart hotel in the West End of Glasgow that would be considered by most people to be excellent value for money, you may possibly get a single room only at the Acorn for that rate in the winter when it is quiet but that would be all. When you break down your £50 total rate as follows, the goverment VAt is 20% immediately, then there is the electric and gas, laundry bills, wages, insurance etc, the actual profit on that room for one night would be something like £7.50, not a lot, and you think the rates should be lower!!!
All in all this was one of the longest reviews we have ever received, and for a one night stay room only, just about everything connected to that stay was dissected, examined and remarked on, even down to comments about services you did not use.
We do appreciate feedback from guest's, but if a guest has a complaint it is much better to speak to Reception at the time and get it dealt with, if we don't know we cannot correct any errors etc. to go away and then decide to write a book about it was completely unneccesary. If you can find a city centre hotel at less than £25 per person per night we recommend that you use them.

Superb location, 5 minute walk into Glasgow. The rooms were small but very well accommodated from hair straighteners / hair dryer to complimentary biscuits. Plenty of hot water and clean environment.

Didn't opt for breakfast (£8 each) and popped to town. I would have gave the place five stars but the website stated reduced parking and a 12:00hrs check-in. Neggers to both.

Top tip: Parking after 18:00hrs is free, along with free all weekend parking.
