The Acorn Hotel lies just next to a lovely park in the West End of Glasgow, not an ideal distance from town if you are working in the centre - but the noise level is almost non-existent in this part of town!

The hotel has obviously been renovated recently, as the decor is all quite swish.
The owners seem to have done their best with the space they have, but the rooms are still rather petite.

The girl on reception (louise) was very nice, although the phone rang non-stop on check-on, so we didnt get much chance to chat.

Altogether a good wee hotel for business trips.

We started our day at Auchentoshan distillery, just off the A82 (Great Western Road). Our tourguide was amazing, although he did repeat a few of the jokes from Speyside!

We choose a hotel in the West End of Glasgow, as we wanted to walk to some of the whisky bars from the guide book. Due to a slight misreading of the map we thought the Acorn was quite close to Byres Road - alas it is a half hour walk, but the taxi in was only £4.90.

The hotel was very swish for the £80.00 we payed, but the room was pretty small. It would have been nice to have a bit more space, but you dont visit a city for it's hotels...

'Oran Mor' at the top of Byres road is a wonderful place to go and soak up 'the glasgow banter', accompanied by a super malt selection!
We then went to the 'Three Judges' at the opposite end of Byres Road, where they had a wide array of beers and ales.

Thw whisky aside we slept really well and breakfast was srcumptious.

When I arrived and saw my room I said, Oh, this must be what they call a boutique hotel. I paid more than I wanted to spend but it was worth it. A little walk to the bus or subway. Good breakfast selection. Very helpful friendly manager.

This was stop 2# on our trip around some of Scotland's cities and we were rather impressed.

The Acorn hotel lies a little further away from town than we had hoped, googlemaps can be a little mis-leading!
The four of us jumped in a taxi from queen street station to the acorn for £4.80 - which was amazingly cheap!

The lady on reception was chatty and got us checked in very quickly. The hotel does take payment on arrival, which i didnt like, but this does mean check-out is super quick.

We had rooms up the stairs, pretty comfy, nice and clean AND....free biscuits which we didnt get in dundee! everyone loves a free biscuit!

Glasgow's nightlife is cracking! We went to all sorts of bars in the west end and then went in to town to 'Nice and Sleazy' (were we saw the "Flight of the Conchords" !!! a New Zealand Comedy act if you don't know them).

Breakfast was not as good as in Dundee, but it still just what we needed after the previous night.

If i am honest, i booked this hotel by accident. I meant to book something in the city centre, whereas the Acorn is located between West End of Glasgow and city centre.

I am very happy that i made the error of booking in to this part of town;

1) it is mostly businesses near by, so you dont get any noise at night - maybe a few odd shouts from people coming back from town, but expect this in any city
2) even though is it a half an hour walk from town it is very easy to get in the the city, the lady on the desk was quite helpful with transport info - No.42 bus i think it was.
3) there is cracking india restaurant on the corner, just down the road from the hotel. They do a very tasty 'Garlic Chillie Chicken' for £10.99.
4) the price of the room was similar to what i pay at larger hotels, but with the bonuses of quietness, a park near-by and a good breakfast - not that i eat much in the mornings anyway.

All in all, very nice.

Our friends from Darfield (back home) had raved about visiting Glasgow, but as they always hire a campervan we were slightly stuch for accommodation.

If you don't have too much luggage and you arrive in Glasgow with nowhere to stay, have a walk down Sauchiehall Street. After about a half an hour west of city centre (and some superb buildings) you will reach a scattering of around 10 or so hotels.

The Acorn is the first hotel you come across and will not let you down!
It is right next to the park, near the musuems and is a bargain for your location.

Little bit of noise at night but no hassel at all.

This is our 2nd trip to Glasgow. We were booked into the Acorn as our usual hotel had double booked us and we were NOT disappointed!! We stayed in room 17 on the 2nd floor with a great view over the park, massive flat screen TV, posh toiletries and GHD hair straighteners (a womans best friend!!!)

We were recommended by the lady at reception to dine at Torres tapas restaraunt only 5mins walk away and given a 10% off voucher. This was a small but very authentic spanish restaraunt which I would also reccomend.
