After much deliberation we decided to go ahead and book the Blytheswood. We managed to get a really good deal direct through the hotel website as we were travelling on a Sunday : £140 dinner bed and breakfast (although we changed dinner for lunch as we had a concert to attend at night).
Beautiful old building (ex RAC HQ I believe) with loads of original features. Quite contemporary in its decor. Every single member of staff was extremely pleasant, and every one of them that we met was Scottish (nice touch as we're used to staying at these sort of hotels and being served by an array of staff from around the globe!)
Our bedroom was lovely. A modest size, but suited us perfectly. Bathroom was lovely - black granite and a pull open hatch so that while you're in the bath you can watch TV in the main bedroom/talk to your partner!
There was a well stocked mini bar which wasn't too over priced too.
The cocktail lounge (upstairs) was lovely when we returned there on the evening. Very 'grown up' atmosphere and classy.
We would certainly use this hotel agin and highly recommend it.More
