“Excellent service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2013

We stayed at Blythswood Square for four nights in July. The service was excellent, especially the Concierge. The decor was lovely to look at but not very functional. Our room had one small window and a wall of black curtains. The lampshades were black on the outside, the wood stained dark grey, and the marble bathroom was dark grey. This was a dark room, one I would not want to spend a lot of time in.
The restaurant was beautifully decorated, much lighter, with good service, and excellent food. The location of the hotel is very good. We walked to the Willow Tea Room and the Glasgow School Of Art, two locations on the Macintosh Trail.

We stayed here for an overnight in June. The service was absolutely first class. We were in one of their 'budget' rooms and still one of the best hotel rooms I have stayed in.

The only criticism I would have is the restricted access to the spa that hotel guests have. It didn't worry us, but for anything more than a single night stay, I think it would irritate me.

Breakfast was very good and I am surprised to see criticism elsewhere in the reviews. If you are a tourist and don't have time for a long breakfast then a great thing that they do is take away hot food (rolls and pastries). We didn't use this as we had a long relaxing one, but I did think it was a good service to offer.

We had cocktails in the bar which was surprisingly busy, but didn't eat in the restaurant. From what I could see though their fixed menu seemed reasonable.

I would definitely go back, but it is an expensive treat rather than a stay over as part of something else you are doing in Glasgow.

Have stayed in all the high end hotels in Glasgow, this the best by a country mile and reasonably priced. Rooms great, bathrooms better, and staff terrific - if you can't stay here give Glasgow a miss.

Our three night stay at the hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Our family suite room was extremely clean, lots of room for our family of four. The morning breakfast buffet had a nice selection but we were also able to order off the menu which was included. This was a very nice touch - having freshly made eggs, smoked salmon, haddock and many more items as well. Everything was prepared perfectly! The waitstaff were very attentive and provided excellent service. The evening use of the spa was a wonderful addition! An absolute must to fit into the schedule! Fitness room was also a plus.

Hotel was within reasonable walking distance to Buchannan Galleries and all the major shopping areas. Easy access to restaurants in the area. This would be the only hotel I would consider if visiting Glasgow.

Room Tip: Family suite provides lots of room for family of 4

We had a fantatstic stay at the Blythswood Square. The staff were so helpful. the Concierge Andrew even helped get us a room at St Andrews for the night. The breakfast buffet was the best we had. They even went to the trouble of finding Canadian bacon for our picky son. We would come back again for sure!
Loved it.

Mr Lash and I prefer to sleep on silk sheets but will settle for high thread Egyptian cotton. Blythswood Square boasts about their luxury sheets which turned out to be as scratchy as a Brillo pad. Mr Lash worried that some hungry insects had joined us in the bed! But no, it was rough cotton which gave us each a complimentary dermabrasion treatment.

The staff at reception were nice but slow in every sense, dancing between answering the telephone and talking to the guest at the desk; not adequately focusing on either.

The head barman in the Salon did make a huge effort and finally made the perfect martini with the assistance of a small hammer to smash ice which was harbouring Vermouth. But his waiting staff were rather odd. One ran off midway through taking our order, explaining when I caught up with him that 'he didn't want to overstep the mark'.

Pray tell me, what is running away and ordering a gin martini for the customer who wants an extremely dry vodka martini if not overstepping the mark?!

Staff had clearly been instructed to smile. This was not good, as some of the faces looked quite sore from effort particularly at breakfast when a good cup of coffee rather than a forced smile is what's desired. Alas, the coffee was rather horrid. Everything about it was cheap except the price.

Mr Lash and I would not return to Blythswood Square Hotel and would not advise you to unless you like to drink over-priced Robusta coffee.

I was delighted to see a lady - dare I say a Strange Woman? - engrossed in my evil twin's novel Spying on Strange Men in a scarlet booth in the hotel's reception.

Room Tip: Rooms are very small, even the deluxe rooms. If you needs space, get a suite. If you don't lik...

I have stayed in this hotel a few times now and every time has been a lovely experience! The rooms are so comfortable, the service outstanding! The restaurant food is delicious! The breakfast is great, so much choice! And the spa is so relaxing and smells Divine! Love this place...can't wait to go back.
