“Nice hotel near city center”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

We booked this hotel for two nights before starting a tour of Scotland. We enjoyed the location, a short walk (10 minutes or so) from George Square. Maybe a two block walk to the Art school, where we enjoyed a one hour tour. The breakfast was fabulous and the wait staff was great. We had an average size room. They did ask if we wanted a morning paper delivered to our door each morning and we were charged for that. Did not use the spa, so I cannot comment on that. Nice bar on the second floor where we would stop for a nightcap. Would definitely stay here again if I were in Glasgow. Great little restaurant around the corner called Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery.

Our main course Prawn Salad followed by Strawberries and Cream/Ice Cream. Glass of Champagne, Sparkling Water and finished off with coffee. Most delicious.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for our anniversary and we had a fantastic time.
The hotel is stunning, the rooms beautifully decorated luxurious and very very comfortable.
We had drinks in the bar before venturing out and the bar staff were fantastic, attentive and knowledgable, I like being able to say I fancy a rum and they can tell me about the product. It adds that extra special touch to it that I love.
I will most definitely be back!
Highly reccomend Blythswood square!

We had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. The rooms are well furnished and have very comfortable beds and pillows. We had a luxurious bathroom with very good quality toiletries supplied for our use. The upstairs cocktail lounge is well designed and inviting. Needless to say we had to sample the cocktails which were very good and we were served by a very attentive young man who was all smiles and very welcoming. On a negative note, having booked for dinner in the restaurant we were very disappointed that we had to wait almost an hour before we were served dinner. Three of our party had most enjoyable meals but the other three had very disappointing meals. On pointing this out to our waiter meals were reordered but it meant that as a party we were all eating at different times which certainly spoilt our evening. The following evening we again had drinks in the cocktail bar and were once again served by the same young man. He is an asset to the hotel. We were all rather excited when Liam Gallacher appeared in the bar with his wife. We found him very friendly and not at all like the image that is portrayed in the press.

Room Tip: We were at the rear of the hotel which does not have a great outlook and would therefore suggest ask...

The Blythswood hotel has a lovely location across from a private park, near central Glasgow. You might walk right by it, if you did not know it was there, as the entrance is understated. We found it a pleasant, half-hour at the most, walk to many of the sites in town and to the train stations.
It ranks as a five-star hotel, but I am not sure I would agree. Upon check-in we were asked for our credit card, not to have on file, but to charge the whole of our stay right then (four nights). We felt this was bad form.
Our room was nice and quiet, and had many nice features, like AC, but was overcrowded with furniture and had closet doors which required side-stepping to open. It was difficult for the two of us to maneuver at times. The lights were dramatic, but did not illuminate very well, both in the bath and the bedroom. Speaking of the bath, the large space had a separate tub from shower, a single sink with a large counter area, nice robes and slippers, but not one towel rack or hook to be seen! The hotel (says) policy is not to change towels unless placed in the tub, which is very admirable, however, there needs to be someplace to hang wet towels and robes so that they don't smell and remain damp. I believe they do change the towels each day, because there is no other choice.
A small thing, but most five-star hotels have evening turn-down service, complete with bottled water, a num-num or treat, weather forecast, and fresh towels. Not here. They did offer a newspaper in the morning, and had extras outside the dining room at breakfast. We saw that they provided (early risers) with juice and rolls outside the dining room, but we did not see that each day...maybe we were too late.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially in the bar and dining room. The buffet and full breakfast, which was included, was nicely presented and quite good. The common spaces on the lobby level were very modern and not really places to lounge, but the bar on the second level was a nice place to relax and spend time planning tours or reading.
Do not misunderstand, I would gladly stay here again when in Glasgow, because overall this hotel is top notch for the area. There is also a spa, which I cannot speak to, but that will be an attraction for many.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, it will most likely be in the rear of the hotel without a view of the park...

In what used to be the Royal Automobile club, the owners have transformed it into a high class hotel.
The staff are very helpful and pleasant; the bar atmospheric and comfortable.
My room was large, clean and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was huge with a seperate walk in shower (my only criticism is that the very large bath had no grab handles and for some one who is quite short, could be awkward getting in and out!).
i didn't have dinner there (went Brian's) but breakfast was great - you can even have a bloody mary shoukld the need arise!)

greta hotel - go find out for yourself.
