“Great To Look At and Central Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2010

This is located about 10 minutes walk from the shopping district in Glasgow. It's also an easy 20 minute to the West End to see other areas outside of the shopping.

The room was very pretty. The bathroom was large and had double sinks. However, it was missing outlets in the bathroom. This seemed to us to be a design flaw.

The breakfasts had smoked fish and meat, along with fruit and pastries. It was the same each day but very impressive for an included meal.

The staff was always polite and helpful. They seemed cheery, which was nice after London.

I'd stay there again.

At last, a good hotel within walking distance of the city centre and (if you're a keen walker) Kelvingrove and the University of Glasgow. Stayed here during an unusual spell of warm, sunny weather. The hotel is light and the atmosphere lively and unstuffy. These three things -- the central location, bright rooms, and the more laid-back (but still professional) staff -- are what distinguish it from the Hotel du Vin, where we also stayed. That and the price of the rooms, which are a bargain by comparison.

We stayed for several days, so we could see how this hotel has become a meeting place for office workers having lunch and after-work drinks, and for locals on a nice night out. It's a good addition to Glasgow's social scene. The area is lively in the evenings and weekends. I had assumed that the rooms facing the garden square would be quiet, but in fact the opposite is true. Cars roar down the road in front of the hotel, and on the weekend you'll probably be treated to loud, drunken voices. Wear earplugs and remind yourself that you're in central Glasgow, after all . . .

I can see how the bedrooms will look tired and scruffy in a few years' time. This is not the kind of hotel that was designed to age gracefully. Fixtures were probably meant to be replaced every few years -- which negates any claims they might make to being eco-friendly! But until that happens, we plan to continue staying in this hotel and enjoying its advantages.

We stayed at the Blythswood for 5 nights in September on business. I had reserved a Wee Classic room and requested one with light on an upper floor before arrival. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a deluxe room on check in. The room was spacious and bright and the bed was comfortable. Overall service in the hotel was good and the staff were pleasant.

Some flaws already cited by other Trip Advisor posters were spot on: the bathroom, while lavish in appearance, does not include towel racks near the shower or adequate lighting in the shower stall. Wireless access in the room is very variable and this did impact my work habits a bit. The breakfast room also tends to get super busy at times and service can get quite spotty then.

On the last night around midnight, we heard some water dripping onto our floor and noticed that we had a leak coming from above through a light fixture! We had to call for someone to come and after his investigation, discovered that the bath tub upstairs was leaking into our room. The staff person offered to have us move but we declined given that it was midnight already and we were leaving in the AM. We put towels on the floor and did not use any electricity till we left given that the water was coming through an electric outlet. Oddly no one followed up at all with us the next morning as we departed or even after we left. The front desk said they had not heard anything happened! We left a message to inform house-keeping of this and sent an email as we were concerned about the potential electrical risk to an unsuspecting staff person.

We stayed at the Blythswood Square on Sunday night and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We could not fault the staff in any way, they were all very professional and extremely friendly and helpful.
Our room was lovely with everything you could wish for. The bathroom was fab, with a huge bath and separate rain shower which was great!
We had a few drinks in the bar at night and the barman even made a cocktail for me which was not on the menu as I was a bit unsure about what to have, a nice touch.
Breakfast was served in the bar and again was perfect.
All in all I could not fault this Hotel in any way and it is now my favourite one in Glasgow!

We made an online reservation for a Wee Classic room on the way up to the Outer Hebrides for a two week tour around. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by Elaine at reception and upgraded to a Deluxe room. The room itself was beautifully appointed; a huge bathroom with shower cubicle and heated floor, a huge freestanding bath in the room next door with a lovely fireplace, and the huge bed in the main room.

After a long drive from London we had a room service dinner which was faultless, as well as a lovely bottle of wine.

We had some issues with the TV, which were also affecting others on the floor, and Elaine worked tirelessly to remedy this fault, calling in the engineer, sending up two glasses of prosecco (a lovely touch) to apologise for the inconvenience, and offering to upgrade us again to a Junior Suite. However, since we were already settled in and relaxed in our room, we chose to stay put.

We arrived at around 6pm and it cost £4 to park overnight until 10 am the following day when we left for Skye.

A wide choice of breakfast options were available; porridge, pastries, cold meats and cheese, fish, smoked salmon as well as an a la carte menu. Everything was tasty and the hot items well cooked and presented.

Upon check out, Elaine told us she was going to give us a discount on the room to make up for the faulty TV which could not, in the end, be fixed during our stay.

We had a wonderful stay here and would not hesitate to stay here again. HIghly recommended.

We stayed on Sun 5th Sept for one night to celebrate my wifes birthday. The hotel is contempory, clean and has a nice atmosphere. The staff clearly love their job and aim to please. They are young friendly and professional. We had booked the Market menu for dinner but the choice was not brilliant. However, you can eat a la carte and take £20 each off the bill.We both had fillet steak which was beautiful. The meal was very good.
The bar staff were excellent.
The room, bathroom and bed was clean and comfortable.
We will definitely return in the future.
An added bonus was that there are no parking fees on Sundays...

The hotel locates up in the hill, facing a square with a lot of green. It took 10-15 minutes walk to the city – not very far away from the major train stations and shopping areas.

I booked a basic room for my three-day stay in Glasgow. The room is probably a bit too romantic (dim) for business traveler, especially when one would want to work on the desk: a desk light would certainly help and the chair was probably too close to the bed so I worked with my pc notebook at the end of my bed instead. The same lighting issues were found in the shower and the closet - more direct lighting might help too. I believe that more direct lights in the bathrooms areas would make the shower experience less intimidating and make the area look cleaner.

The lock of my room wasn't work properly - and the door didn't close without a second (strong) pull.

The bathroom, in my view, is the major issue, in terms of design. Some racks should have been installed in the bathroom, especially in the shower area as well as the basin - the use of marble was a great idea but probably it further darkens the room. I understand it’s not always easy to install racks or handles on marble but without having enough areas for shower gel and shampoo make the guest put all these bottles on the shower floor.

The lady at the reception could remember my name – a warm greeting every morning! It was impressive for a hotel of such a scale.

More lights, more user-friendly design in the bathroom. Also there was a gap between the two windows and this made the noises at night coming through - with people shouting at night and car-burning (engine) noises. I found also a mosquito - certainly through the small gap.
