We stayed in the Blythswood last weekend and can't praise them enough. We used the spa (heavenly facial), we had dinner (best double-fried chips ever), we had 2 breakfasts (good choice, great food) and we thought the service was superb (especially Abby in the dining room). The beds were soft but very comfortable and the shower was great. All in all - a truly 5* experience. We'll be back.

First positives.
Well designed modern room. Great use of small space. Bathrooms lovely.
Very good atmosphere in cocktail bar. Great choice of well made cocktails.
Second negatives.
A la carte food in dining room far from top class. Some courses had to be returned.
Room very busy on Saturday night. Atmosphere/food more like bistro than fine dining.

For a special occasion in Glasgow: Stay here but eat at excellent restaurants within 3 mins walk.

My wife and I have just spent a night at the Blythswood Hotel to celebrate our anniversary and could not have been more delighted by the experience. From the luxurious surroundings of our room to the attention provided by the staff. A special mention must go to the restaurant & bar manager, James. I have not been in the hotel for around 8 months and he came to me whilst I was sitting in the cocktail bar, remembered my name and spent a significant time speaking with me and my wife ensuring that we were being well catered for. The whole experience ensures that when I am in Glasgow it is the only hotel I will consider staying in.

We stayed at the Blythswood Square for our anniversary and while attending a wedding near Glasgow. From the moment we arrived until we left two days later we were made to feel absolutely at home by some of the best staff I have come across in any hotel. The room was a delight - comfortable and quiet - and the restaurant and bar exactly what you would expect of a top hotel and very reasonable priced for the quality of the food and drink.

I would recommend this hotel without reservation for both business and leisure.

Building is beautiful and original floor in spacious lobby is stunning. However, lovely original features spoilt by really tacky red velvet booths and other red artifacts, (which I believe are supposed to be an 'amusing' reminder of the area's past history as a centre for prostitution) Apart from the fact that I don't really find the use and abuse of vulnerable women particularly jolly - it was just bad design and I am amazed that the conservation organisations approved it! Our room was comfortable with great facilities and extremely modern, with a huge comfy bed. It had very little natural light which meant the lights had to be on all the time. This meant closing the curtains as the window was overlooked by lots of other windows in a kind of central well. Bathroom was very swish and marble but hard to see properly to shave or put make up on! The most incongruous part of our stay was the strange breakfast 'scrum' on the Sunday - plenty of tables but seemingly not enough staff to service them and so dozens of people were milling about in the lobby waiting to be seated, with no real system for identifying who was next in the queue! The staff were unfailingly charming and courteous and most apologetic and it was certainly not their fault - a management problem I think!! Once seated, breakfast was glorious! Best thing about this hotel is the staff - full marks and congratulations to them!

Another amazing stay at Blythswood Square. I've now been 3 times in 2 months and have found no reason to fault the hotel! Gorgeous surroundings, fantastic food and staff that will bend over backwards to help! I keep finding reasons to go back and the new spa has just given me a few. Would recommend this hotel to anyone!

A friendly enough doorman welcomes you in but check in was a little slow. One person on reception dealing with a protracted check-out while half a dozen other staff loitered around looking for something else to do. Receptionist was pleasant but perfunctory, the online booking we had made had included a late-check out request but this was not on their system but offered for free when we asked.

The deluxe room was great once the air con had been turned off but the TV system was a total headache to operate. It cut out intermittently and the remote control only worked when it was pointed off to the far wall and only then when it felt like it. There was no DVD player but the movies were free and bang up to date. No welcome message or token present for new arrivals.

The staff member showing us to our room explained that their was a robe shortage due to the spa opening but he'd send another up. It never arrived. The bedside lights were not connected to the dimmer switches beside the bed, were not dimmable and had to be turned off at the wall. There was no ipod dock which seems to be standard in just about every other hotel but the multi-room sound system was good. The mini-bar was average and very uninspiring as was the room service menu.

The bar downstairs was excellent, the barman a professional and affable maker of incredible cocktails and the tapas menu was superb. The breakfast menu delivered to the room in the morning was extensive and pretty good despite the cold toast, watery poached eggs and sub-par black pudding. Again the barstaff came through with the goods with a mean bloody mary. No newspapers offered or delivered.

The room service and bar restaurant speed-dial numbers alternated between engaged and ringing out but reception picked up quickly. The handle fell off the toilet door and the underfloor heating in the bathroom only extended to the bath area, the toilet floor was stone cold but the facilities were beautiful. The rain-shower drain was blocked however and filled up rather too quickly.

The late check out time of 2pm was very civilised and again pleasant and perfunctory.

The hotel in general is beautiful, spacious and well designed. The miles and miles of wonderful Harris Tweed used throughout really helps make the place look and feel incredible. So there's much to love about the Blythswood but, in this case, it seems to be just falling short of providing a perfect experience.
