“Fantastic”
Reviewed 30 November 2010

My partner and I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights.

The check-in was quick and easy with a very friendly member of staff. We were given a choice of room with views into the city or into the courtyard. We were both very pleased with the room. It was basic but done excellently with a great use of space. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was powerful. We loved being able to change the lighting, tv, blinds and just about everything using the mood pad. On the first night, the fire alarm went off and everyone was evacuated, but it was dealt with really quickly and efficiently by the staff. On our second night, we arrived back at the hotel to find that we had had our room changed as the room above ours had flooded. All our belongings had been moved by the staff to a different room (thankfully as the flood was quite bad) which ended up having a better view than the one we were in before so we were quite happy. The staff were very apologetic and offered us complimentary drinks that evening.

A few negatives were the lack of a tea/coffee maker and although you are able to control the temperature of the room, it would be nice to be able to open a window as the room was really warm in the morning. We considered having something to eat but found that the food available downstairs was quite expensive, however as the hotel is right in the city centre there's no shortage of other places to eat.

Even after encountering a couple of problems during our stay we would say that the room and staff more than made up for this and we not hesitate to book the hotel again. In fact, we are already in the middle of booking again for next year!

In a sentence style over substance, this was my first and last time to use citizen M, the location is great, the check in automated system did not work as my room had been cancelled by their auto system and almost 30 minutes after arriving to being allocated a bedroom. The rooms are not designed for two people there was not even enough room to hang my suit and shirt let alone any other items i wanted, In the shower pod there was no where for toiletries except their own citizen M products stuck on the wall, the wash hand basin is in the bedroom 12 inches long by 6 inches wide where you can splash water on your clothes which hang next to it due to lack of hanging space. all this pleasure for £119.00 on Saturday night and £69.00 on Sunday night. all room only. In a sentence style over substance does not work for us

Excellent hotel, great location and value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. Two minor criticisms: very little hanging space and small room - was fine for one, but could be a tight squeeze for a couple. Nonetheless- the positives more than made up for this and the decor was funky with a huge, very comfortable bed

We stayed here for one night and booked two rooms - one for us and one for our son. A great concept, very comfortable bed, great public areas and spectacular views across the city from our room. This hotel is definitely different and has the potential to offer a fantastic experience. We felt it was let down by a number of things - none of which would be hard to fix, but when added up detracted from the experience. Clearly, none of the staff had much experience in the hospitality industry and though keen to please, seemed a little unsure of themselves and amateurish. The presence of security goons with secret service style earpieces in the public areas jarred. Security may be essential when there is an open public area, but it should be more discrete. The rooms missed some items that even in a 'budget' hotel should not be optional - a waste paper bin in the room, and a couple of glasses for drinking water should have been provided. Finally, the room and corridor could have been cleaner. There were finger marks on the shower pod, the bumpers either side of the mattress were a bit grubby and the window had greasy marks from the previous occupants head on it - all minor, but overall made it feel a bit grubby. And so to price. Even pre-paid, and taking into account the standard of fixtures and fittings, the price was £99 per room. That's quite steep for what you get, and when you add sky-high bar prices, budget it ain't! We're glad we had the experience, but we probably won't be going back.

We stayed here last night and loved this hotel. The Pod style rooms were excellent - a huge bed, automatic blackout blinds, powerful shower and we loved the ability to change the colour of the lighting in the room. The space in the rooms is used very creatively.

The self-service check in is a great idea and the bar downstairs looked great too (reminded me of K-West in London, for those into their trendy hotels) - but due to timings we weren't able to pop in for a drink.

We regularly stay in budget hotels - travelodge, premier inn, jurys inn etc, which usually work out around £50 per night - and would happily pay the £69 this cost to stay in these hotels if there were any more in the UK. I understand they're planning to open two in London and two in NYC in the next year. We also regularly go to Glasgow and next time we go, there's no question of where we will stay.

It's ideal for a weekend away but there isn't much storage space so you might struggle for longer durations. I stay in a lot of hotels for business and leisure and for me to put a review of them on here they have to be so exceptionally good that they deserve public praise, or so horrendously awful that I wouldn't want anyone else to make the mistake of staying there. Safe to say that this is definitely in the exceptionally good category!

For a shopping/theatre trip this was in the perfect location. Plenty of place to eat locally too. Excellent futuristic bedroom with a brilliant 2 metre bed. the mood lighting was great (put it to blue whilst in the shower!) This won't be to everyone's liking, but we really enjoyed our say. The only negative for us was that there was no tea/coffee in the room.
