The city centre position is outstanding especially for train travellers as this used to be a railway hotel. The building is fantastic with elegant architecture and lovely detailing inside and plenty of circulation space, the building has a good feel and is very well maintained and restored.

Booking was no problem, we booked with the hotel direct and were given an upgraded room. Check in was a bit chilly but this is to be expected with large hotels and is better than false over familiarity. It was however competently done and speedy.

The room at the rear of the hotel was excellent, we had gleaned from other trip advisor users that the front rooms have city noise background and since we are not from the city we wanted peace and quiet, it was very quiet. The room was large and well maintained, the bed and bathroom were excellent and we had a really good nights sleep. The glass door to the bathroom was a bit disconcerting if the light is put on in the night.

The dining room is rather dark but clean with plenty of room between the tables, often they are far too close together. The dinner was ambitious but well executed, panna cotta with cardamom was not to my taste. The sea bream was very good and so was chicken for a main course. The creme brulee was very good.

We did visit the champagne bar overlooking the station concourse but didnt have time for a glass of champange, the room is wonderful witha stunning view.

Breakfast was very busy as you would expect in a large hotel, real bread for toast, proper preserves and excellent porridge. It was all well done the staff polite and welcoming.

Check out was quick and easy and we were on our way on the train. All in all a very good stay.

We stayed in the Grand Central for 2 nights after our wedding and enjoyed it so much we booked the next 2 nights right up till we left for honeymoon even though we live in Glasgow!
I can't fault this place at all, the staff bent over backwards for us and really made us feel welcome, especially when we were leaving with trolley loads of kilts, wedding dresses and presents.
We upgraded to a suite which ended up being the JFK, absolutely stunning. The champagne bar is just beautiful and serves brilliant cocktails.
Thoroughly recommend this hotel for location, friendliness, value for money, a great bar and delicious food.

I have stayed in this hotel a couple of times for business, most recently for three nights with 5 colleagues.
The rooms are really quite varied - I had quite a small room, some of the others had really huge rooms where the bathrooms were the size of my bedroom! Even the small rooms were still fine. The bathrooms are also really nicely done with really nice showers.
The bar is really nice, with high-backed chairs and really good service from the waiters.
Breakfast is ok, not fantastic.

My sister and I stayed here in April 2012, its beautiful very Titanic. Right in the centre of Glasgow next to the train station. Although it was very quiet in the hotel. The rooms are spacious, huge double/twin bed. The breakfast was wonderful, so much too choose from that would suit all types of diets. Awesome chandeliers from the top floor to the bottom inside the stairwell. We were on a shopping/show at night outing so the hotel was in an ideal location for us.

An imposing hotel which attempts to re-live the glory days of the railway age and make a good go of it. It is swankey and give one the feeling of "this is something special". The check-in was swift and polite and the help from the consierge was spot on. The room was excellent and spotlessly clean.
One thing that set this hotel apart was the general buzz of a busy hotel with people enjoying a drink in the champagne bar - not just a few tired business people.
