“Fabulous hotel, excellent location and a scrummy breakfast!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

This is a lovely hotel - extremely grand as the name suggests and brilliant customer services. We arrived at 10am and didn't expect to be able to check in but they had a room ready so we could put our luggage in there and freshen up before going out for the day. Beautiful building and a lovely champagne bar. Excellent breakfast to set you up for the day with some Scottish potato scones and haggis thrown in too. Perfect location for seeing the sights Glasgow has to offer - will definitely be visiting again and recommending this hotel to friends and family.

We were guests at the Grand Central Hotel on October 29, 2013. I had booked through Expedia and accidentally booked the 28th and not the 29th. When we arrived we were made aware of the discrepancy. We had traveled for 7 hours to get there and were only spending one night. Since we paid in advance, we lost the money for the night we accidentally booked. The receptionist, Karyn, rudely told us there was no compensation that could be made since we booked through Expedia and that if we had booked directly with them they could work with us. My wife asked to speak to a manager and she told us to have a seat while she called one. After she checked in a customer she told us that the manager wasn't available, but he had told her that they could do nothing except charge us the going rate for a room that night, which was 85 pounds. I proceeded to look the price up online and found rooms for 79 pounds. she told us that she could not honor that price but would give us a room for 81 pounds. Since we had no alternative and were exhausted we purchased a room. She was very quick to inform us of what the full price of breakfast was the following day.

The room was smaller than I expected and was dated. The floor of the shower was dirty and walls were stained with brown streaks, similar to nicotine stains. Other than that the room was decent. The lobby had a strong odor of diesel fumes due to the trains.

We took a brief evening tour of the area outside of the hotel and upon our return, witnessed a drunken gentleman falling repeatedly on the floor with his pants(including underwear) down around his knees. I know this isn't a fault of the hotel, but coupled with the experience we had checking in, made it that much more uncomfortable.

I have made attempts to contact management at the hotel via email, but have not received a response. I don't expect anything for my mistake, but I would appreciate a response as to why I was treated like a second class citizen because I booked through Expedia. I will not not visit this hotel in the future because of the serviced we received, not because of the hotel itself.

Fantastic location-straight off the train and into the hotel. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and sights. Nicely renovated-quite classy. Bit gloomy. Room quite small and functional. Little storage space. Cleaners forgot to remove bin contents. Breakfast room very hot, but cooked breakfast cold-even when fresh 'hot' food brought from the kitchen. Reunion dinner-food dull. Reception and managerial staff very friendly and helpful. Would visit again but only if a special offer.

Not great visit, room v small, noisy whistling radiator, badly marked and stained walls. Breakfast room was roasting hot.
Hotel is vast and I may have been unlucky with my room. Had around colleagues staying at same time and they had no complaints.
Knowing Glasgow well I think there are better hotels at the rate I paid.

Stayed one night in the hotel, absolutely loved it. Room was on the 4th floor, looking out over the top of Glasgow Central Station, and very little noise surprisingly even with the window open (only slightly muttering of the usual Scotrail automatic announcements). I have a feeling that its either street view and street noise or no view and no noise!

Rooms were lovely, large and comfortable bed. Room service was expensive as always, and we collected food from the bar to save £5 service charge, but otherwise good food, drink and service.

All in all great stop in Glasgow!

Room Tip: Quieter in station overlooking rooms rather than street. 4 floor was more than suitable. Also try ge...

Once again I had the pleasure of being invited along to a CLIC Sargent charity event on Sunday at the wonderful Grand Central. Over 350 ladies had an amazing time and it was extremely well organised. The setting, food, attention to detail was brilliant and the staff could not have been more attentive with 350 ladies to look after - a difficult task in itself. Excellent staff training obviously paid off here and other hotels had better watch out - 10 out of 10 and looking forward to staying over in December in one of your beautiful suites!

I booked a night here for my husband as we'd heard and seen lots of good things about this refurbished grand hotel. And it was going to be a convenient stopping point on the way home from a family get together in Ayrshire. On checking in earlier in the day the staff assured us they'd put our bags in a quiet room for when we returned later in the evening. But when we came back in the evening we had to go and collect our bags and we were checked in to what turned out to be a room subject to traffic noise and an air conditioning drone which kicked off in the early hours and continued intermittently for the rest of the night. I fully expected to hear train announcement given where the hotel is, but at least these don't go on throughout the night! Breakfast was disorganised and disappointing. The hotel was busy and we had to queue for twenty minutes for a breakfast with not much choice. The table we were allocated was well away from the cramped buffet area. Considering the price of the room and breakfast this was really poor value for money.

I am very disappointed to hear about your issues with noise. At the Grand Central we try our best to reallocate any guest who have an issue with their bedrooms and I'm very sorry if this was not made available to you. Unfortunately as a city centre hotel we do deal with a degree of external noise and I apologize if this has affected your sleep.

I can assure you that your comments regarding breakfast will be discussed thoroughly with our Restaurant Manager.
