I stayed at the hotel with my mother and mother in law and we had a great time. The room were clean, modern and spacious, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the champagne bar was fab, and the breakfast was delicious. However i would like to point out a couple of issues; in our bathroom our blind would not go down (there was a thin screeen but the main blind only moved a few inches) and there was scaffolding outside the buiding with workmen going up and down on a pulley! The other issue we noticed were the fire doors in the corridor, i believe these should be kept closed? Also none of us had a good nights sleep due to the noise of part go-ers returning to their rooms and the noise from the street, this is to be expected as it is city centre location, but i would take ear plugs on my next visit!

Thank you so much for your review of your recent experience at the Grand Central Hotel.

It was a delight to read that you found our rooms to be modern and spacious, though I was disappointed to read about the issues you experience. I have made our maintenance team aware of the shortcomings in your room, though the fire doors in our corridors are magnetically controlled, and in the event of a fire close automatically.

Thank you again for your comments and I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Kind regards
Laurie Nicol

What can I say ! I know glasgow reasonably well as have visited a lot over the past two years, have never stayed at the Grand Central so as I was travelling with my best friend for a girls night we pushed the boat out and treated ourselves.
There is no question you can't get a better location in the city centre everything is on the door step literally.
We travelled and arrived at the hotel approx 10.45 am didn't expect the room to be ready but asked just incase. We were told no but could leave luggage with concierge which was fine, I asked if we could have a room that didn't over look the station and was told that we already had room allocated and it was facing hope street so we were happy with that. We were asked for a mobile number so that the hotel could phone us if the room was ready early which I though was a nice touch even thought we had plans to go do various things.
We headed off out after leaving luggage with concierge who was lovely.
By 3.45pm we still had not heard anything from the hotel on my mobile but we had completed our plans and only had one more stop as we were heading back to the hotel as we assumed by this time the room would be ready. We made our last stop and received a phonecall while there to say that our room was ready! Surely the policy is the room should be ready before this time?
So we went to the hotel checked in and went to our room
Very spacious, decor nice, bathroom good size and modern, and not much noise from the street (on 3rd floor) as extra glazing.
We then got ready and headed out for the evening, didn't return until after 11pm and managed to visit the hotels champagne bar which was nice and a bit quieter than earlier in the evening so easy to get served, the champagne bar is as I said nice but it over looks the train station so good for people watching albeit everything was closing down when we got there.
Then we went back to our room and it was freezing! There is no adjustment for the heating in the room that we could see and you need to use your keycard to use the lights etc so we just left a keycard in the socket while we were out and took one with us as have been caught out with this before in other hotels.
This seemed to make no difference with the heating as it's an old hotel the radiator is below the very large window there are blind to pull down over the windows but the curtains are only decorative as if you were to shut them there would be no heat from The radiator!
We ended up phoning reception as both the room and the radiator where cold. 3 phone calls and 45 minutes later! Bearing in mind this was past midnight ! We finally get a knock on the door, have to add the member of staff who came was nice but you could tell they were kinda stuck in the middle, turns out they tried to reset the heating upstairs somewhere and it would take a while to work and basically the 3rd and 4th floor have this problem all the time, please note all of this information came from various sources.
In the end we were given an electric fan heater to heat our room, it was dusty, had a burning smell and very noisy, by luck we were staying up so the room had time to heat up from the fan heater but we were not happy leaving it on all night so just took the chance that eventually the radiator would come on.
It was cold during the night when we got up in the morning the radiator was on but not particularly hot and we had to put the fan heater back on.
The heating of the room is something the hotel need to address
We went for breakfast in the morning there was no que but there is tea/coffee pastries etc by the desk where you check in with your room number which we were impressed with. But then realised that that is probably due to the size of the room for breakfast which is very small for the size of the hotel, grateful we didn't have to wait to be seated.
Breakfast was reasonable enough and then we packed and checked out for another day of adventures again leaving our luggage with the concierge.
All in all I would say location is the bonus of this hotel, hard to beat it , room large, decor good but comfort not the best definite things to be addressed and sorted out such as the heating.

This review is for the young female receptionist who phoned round hotels after we walked in when our pre-booked room (not at the Grand Central) was double booked , and found us one at the Malmaison

Excellent service - wish I had noted your name!

I visited this hotel on the 25/03/14. The rooms are nice and clean however I did find certain maintenance issues (cracked paint/loose toilet roll holder/marked walls/poor water pressure) all minor things.

The windows also let in a lot of noise. I would have expected double/triple glazing, especially when facing onto a busy taxi rank.

The reception staff were helpful. Our room wasn't ready but we were given drinks vouchers for the bar. Our luggage also wasnt delivered to our room until we enquired as to why it wasnt in our room as promised.

The atmosphere of the place is fantastic. The bar is great (fantastic cocktail list)

Probably wouldnt stay again for the price but it was a nice visit.

This hotel has clearly benefitted from a major refurbishment. They have managed to re-instill the grandeur that existed when the hotel was originally built - large yet comfortable bedrooms, clean and tidy bathrooms, high ceilings, atmospheric public areas. Good food and drink reasonably priced and extremely friendly staff who all seem keen to ensure that you enjoy your stay. Location is the middle of a large city and next to the Central train station and yet it is not noisy.

We will stay here again.

Room Tip: Try and get bedrooms on 3rd and 4th floors as they tend to be quieter than those on 1st and 2nd floo...

Huge rooms, high ceilings, old building: very atmospheric, yet cozy and modern fixtures throughout.
Beds were very comfortable, bathrooms clearly redone relatively recently, room service was excellent and the food was delicious.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Only slight downside: windows were not completely airtight, leading to drafts and a rather chilly room.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here back in February. The place is a 1920's Rennie McIntosh style gem. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The massive rooms and huge corridors were truly exceptional. I loved the art work and design touches throughout.

Only wee complaint was in the champagne bar where the staff could have been a lot friendlier. I felt as though i had to hang around an uncomfortable amount of time to be acknowledged despite the bar being very quiet. Not a great deal of warmth from the guy who served us either!

Breakfast was fantastic. I loved the system of a hot maintained buffet. Other hotels should take note! A huge delicious selection of food which was all hot and fresh and constantly re filled.

Will definitely be back. Such a great addition to the City. glasgow should be very proud.
