“Perfect Location if you come by Train and Great Value for Money”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

This is a wonderful and atmospheric hotel in a perfectly central located and is actually attached to Glasgow Central Station. Walk off the platform, through a door into the hotel. The staff are extremely attentive. We had two twin rooms, one of which was not suitable and the extremely affable and professional Manager, Andrew, resolved the situation to our great satisfaction within half an hour. Clean rooms, nicely appointed and comfortable beds and bathrooms with either a shower or a bathroom [so do ask if you have a preference]. The breakfast was exceptionally good and whilst it is very conveniently located right next to a City Bus Tour stop, there is a taxi rank outside the hotel though the Concierge is always happy to book a taxi in advance which will be waiting for you. A Great Hotel and, all in all, GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY

Room Tip: The corridors are extremely long on either side of the Lifts. If you don't want a long walk to...

Love the location in the middle of so much to do in Glasgow. The lobby is undergoing major reconstruction so there is limited seating at present. Steps from the street to the lobby are an oddity, with only some handrails and steps that vary in height. Easier to access lobby via train station door--no steps. Hotel has strange policy for internet access but helpful staff can bypass this glitch in customer service. The spaciousness of the hotel means it's a long way from the elevator to schlep your luggage. And the spaciousness of the hallways creates an echo chamber for late night revelers' voices.

Room Tip: Make sure your room is away from the train station loud speaker--actively in use most of the time.

Thoroughly enjoyed dinner here on Sunday evening. Food was excellent, prices reasonable and service with a smile from our server Jennifer. Look forward to visiting again soon. Afterwards we went upstairs to the Champagne bar for delicious cocktails which ended our night perfectly. Thank you Grand Central :-)

Room Tip: Pop in to Grand Central and you'll be made very welcome.

This was our second trip to the hotel. We went with friends and booked two suites through Itison vouchers. From check in to check out the service was friendly and efficient. Loved the champagne bar where the cocktails were great. Fantastic location for shopping and for getting out in the evening. Would definitely go back.

Juat spent two nights in this beautiful hotel. Service is impeecable, rooms well appointed and the food very good.
The ideal hotel?

Well...
The location is a busy part of town it on the corner of Gordon and Hope streets and adjacent to Central station. Herein lies the problem; it is so bloody noisy and that carries into the bedrooms. If it is not the tannoy at the station it is the taxis on Godon street.

The hotel has made some attempt to minimise noise through some secondary glazing - though not in the bathroom. So the noise carries through the bathroom window, through the glass door and into the room. Also in my room there are big heavy curtains which might have helped dampen the noise, yet these are for show and don't close!

If you stay here, and I recommend you should, take some earplugs.

Thank you for taking the time to pass on your review of your recent experience at the Grand Central Hotel.

As a busy city centre hotel we do occasional deal with a degree of external noise, and I am sorry if this affected your stay in any way. We are constantly working to improve the noise dampening facilities in our bedrooms, and I thank you for passing on your concern.

my wife and i have stayed in this hotel on many occasions - the staff are welcoming and the atmosphere generally is relaxed. Food is excellent.

We have learned from experience that choice of room matters. We always now insist on a room that faces the station - because on one side of the hotel traffic noise can be an issue. we also insist on a room that is above the station canopy (i.e. the 3rd or 4th floor) after one stay when we had a 2nd floor room and the station cleaners (or repairers or whatever) started work at 0300 hours - i am sure they had a good time but we spent the rest of the night listening to them. above the canopy, station noise just is not a problem.

The location is splendid - i am lame so the proximity of trains, both mainline, low levee and underground matters a lot.

Breakfast was a bit of a disapointment re the eggs You cant cook a tray of eggs en mass and expect them to be good after 20 mins
The smoked Haddock was very good

Room Tip: remember the coridors are very long. Think hotel Budapest (film)
