“Great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Stayed with my 8 year old son at the grand central for 2nights. The staff were very friendly on arrival and throughout the duration of our stay. They were very helpful and pleasant to chat to. Rooms were great...my soon said they were "awesome" n the best hotel we've stayed at so far...so you've got his vote!! Food was lovely! The Champagne bar is great for people watching as it looks right over central station!! Only thing is if you drink wine....choose it by the bottle as at £8 a glass its a bit pricey!! I will definitely be choosing this hotel again!!

Apparently I was upgraded upon arrival to a superior room. I thought wow how nice until I saw the shoe box. Having stayed here before my non superior room was much better. Then through the night what seemed like every half hour some motor noise kept going off for five minutes. Quite annoying to a light sleeper. Went for breakfast at 8 the next morning. Usually wouls have been earlier but with little sleep. . . Shown to my seat and told to help myself to food and tea/coffee would be served. I then sat for ten minutes watching waiter slowly circle floor offering eveyone a top up of coffee before running out and then proceeding to leave. At this point I just gave up waiting and had to go ask if I was ever getting coffee.

Certainly won't be staying here again when other better hotels just up the road.

Thank you for taking the time to pass on your review of your recent experience at the Grand Central Hotel.

I was disappointing to read that you were not fully satisfied with your stay, and that there were aspects of your initial bedroom and our service that did not live up to your standards. It is never our intention for a guest to leave us with a negative impression of the hotel, and i am sorry if this is the case.

I have passed your details on to our Guests Relations team, who will be in direct contact with you.

Kind Regards
Laurie Nicol

Visited this hotel many years ago and since then it has been completely renovated with a new Champagne Bar in a wonderful setting.
Visited again with my son for a few days during the Commonwealth Games and the staff were wonderful, in particular Olivia on reception, who went out of her way to help.
It's amazing though how little things niggle and one was the wifi charges, so I had to tether my cellphone. Another annoyance was the extended wait for service at the bar (10-15 mins). There was plenty of waiting staff who were at a loss as to what to do and seemed to be getting in the way.
Otherwise a fantastic venue

Room Tip: Some rooms have an exceptionally long walk from the lift, so request near access if walking is a pro...

Travelled by train to Glasgow just before the Games for a birthday dinner, we arrived and the Central Station and our hotel was accessed direct from the train station which was great.

The hotel itself is a beautiful old building right in the heart of Glasgow, with shopping, restaurants and cafe's right on your doorstep. Checking in was very easy and the staff were very helpful and even gave us a map of Glasgow and marked on it the restaurant we were going to that evening. The room was large with a larger than average bathroom which was modern and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bedlinen white and pristine. We went to the Champagne bar in the hotel with friends, which is very classy and again beautifully decorated as are all the public areas. Checkout was smooth and no waiting around. We walked out of the hotel and straight on the train home, we will be returning!

Firstly I have to say out that we didn't pay for our stay, one of the perks of having a partner who worked on the games! So I'm not sure how much it costs and whether it's good value.

You will not do better location wise. It's right beside the central train station (no noisy trains though), steps from hundreds of cafés & restaurants and is ideal for exploring the city. The shopping in glasgow is amazing and this hotel is slap bang in the middle of all of it.

If you come to the city via the airport it's really easy to get here, the bus stop is around the corner.

The rooms have free wifi for an hour, every three hours. To buy unlimited access is pretty overpriced. It's £7.50 per day. There's an amazing Italian cafe round the corner and they have fee wifi and the best coffee in the city.

We didn't eat here during the day but had a room service sandwich once. It was terrible so I'd avoid that. Thee are plenty of fast food outlets nearby. We did have breakfast. It was average. I'm biased as I think Ireland has the best sausages and bacon on earth. Everything else is tasteless to me. Nevertheless the hotel has a good selection. The baked goods were very dry and tasted stale. The best thing I had was the toast and homemade jam.

The staff are so friendly. We were here for the games and the hotel was extremely busy but the staff were so lovely at all times and really helpful.

The room we had was huge and looked out on the Main Street. It was noisy during the day but quiet at night so it was fine. The shower was amazing and the beds were super comfy.

Apart from the average food I couldn't fault this place. Perfect location and lovely rooms I with great staff.
