1DG ticks the boxes for a luxurious stay. Friendly efficient staff at check-in and a welcome sample of a single malt , pave the way for a lovely stay. Our room was sumptuous, with a huge bedroom and a dressing room with a sofa and the most beautiful Victorian stained glass windows. The bed linen, towels and dressing gowns are top quality, and the Bose sound and the tv excellent. A funky coffee maker and complementary water ,with tea making facilities and fresh milk are very welcome, though a few biscuits should be provided. The four course Sunday Brunch was very good, although the waiting staff were undertrained and inefficient. Also a short walk away from the buzz of Byers Road,Kelvingrove ,the Hunterian museum and the CRM House.Loved my time at 1DG! Makes you feel very spoilt!

Hotel du Vin at 1 Devonshire Gardens is a magical place. The service is fantastic, very high level and attentive but a particularly Scottish slant (shortbread and whiskey at check in was a real treat). The rooms are gorgeous and have everything I would expect from a luxury establishment - nice bathrobes, lovely toiletry selection including Jo Malone (which is a personal favorite anyway), a great room service menu. Downstairs the food in the restaurant is amazing and there is a cool, laid back vibe in the bar. Overall I don't think there is a better hotel in Glasgow. Can't wait to go back!

This is a good quality hotel. The accommodation was fine, the quality of food was above average and the staff were both delightful and efficient. The Wi-fi was not always reliable but that is often the case, in different places and at different times. For those who are light sleepers, it would be wise to request a room at the back of the buildings. Front rooms look over a busy road where the traffic can be a bit noisy.

If your looking for truly five star accommodation in the west end of Glasgow look no further! Great food service wine rooms friendly staff. This tardes of a hotel has loads of Scottish character mixing the old with a modern twist. What you see and pay for is what you get!

Two of us oldens had our luggage taken to the room, which was on top floor. We then discovered that there was no lift. The room was very tired, thread bear carpet, fittings (door handles, light switches etc) had plating worn off. Skirting board in bathroom covered in black marks, and extending shaving mirror not properly fixed to wall. The twin beds were pushed together and room too small to separate them!
The dining rooms are first class and the food excellent, All the staff very professional , helpful , and pleasant..
Did speak to a very attentive manager, who offered to move us to a ground floor room, however we declined due late hour and now settled in.
Would suggest this establishment has too many stars, due to the state of the room, and the fact that there is no lift.

We were there for a wedding, but took rooms for 2 extra nights. We had to change rooms three times, because they always put you above the function room on the date of the wedding, but they moved our stuff for us and it gave us a chance to sample several different types of room. All were sumptuously furnished...the last word in comfort and provision. The TVs had BOSE sound systems attached (pity the neighbours!). There was also a high-end Bowers & Wilkins iPod player. Each room also had an espresso coffee machine in addition to the usual kettle and tea bags and there was free milk in the fridge/mini bar. Free crisps and nuts but no biscuits.
Breakfast menu very comprehensive and well cooked. The waiting and housekeeping staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Reception staff were cooly efficient but didn't respond too well to the young children in our party. I wouldn't say the hotel is child friendly, but given the general age profile of guests I would guess this is not an issue for most of them.
Drinks from the bar are expensive. The function room just about housed our 80 guests, but we would have liked a microphone for the speeches as there are two rooms adjoining and the words didn't carry into the second room.
The wedding meal was very nice and efficiently served and every other aspect of the event expertly managed. Just get a mic.
This hotel is probably the most lavish we will ever stay in. Almost everything here is superlative. A really sumptuous experience. Recommended.

I stayed at the HdV for a couple of nights earlier this month - my third visit in a year - and each time I LOVE the hotel and the rooms, and the eccentric layout of the buildings themselves, but the staff just don't seem to understand the importance of service. On first arrival at check-in on my last visit, the 2 reception staff ignored us while they chatted to each other about a caller on one of their phones; fortunately a different staff member came to show us to the lounge, while we waited 15 minutes in order to check-in. (The chap who carries the luggage etc., is always attentive and helpful, which was good) The breakfast room staff next morning were again more concerned with chatting to each other, than the needs of the (notably very few) guests awaiting breakfast. We had to remind our waitress about our order, and disappointingly for a five star hotel, there was a 'portion control' approach in operation! On my final morning I checked out and while the Reception staff wished me a good day ahead, neither of them asked if I had enjoyed my stay, or had a good visit overall OR (and this was definitely not five star) if I needed assistance with my luggage, or a taxi.......sorry to have to report all of this negative comment, but I feel a five star hotel should not neglect staff training, for HdV, that is overdue. I also wanted to mention staff shortcomings because in the awful event of a fire or other emergency all guests would be totally reliant on staff to understand how to exit buildings with what is recognised as a fairly complicated layout.
