“Malmaison to the rescue!”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

I started planning my best friends 40th birthday cocktail master class celebration night with another Hotel who let me down 4 days before the night - 5th Oct! But thankfully Malmaison came to the rescue and surpassed our expectations. The food choice and quality was outstanding. Drinks were top quality, the mixologist was very professional, engaging and performed great under the pressure of 15 loud thirsty girls. The staff saw to all our needs and more, they were so attentive through out the evening. I can't thank you enough for saving the day for me. I give this venue 10/10 for a cocktail master class or for a private function. I look forward to another night soon

We were given a voucher for a Sunday Stopover. Spend £75 in the restaurant on food & drink and get your accommodation for £25. Trendy and comfortable hotel only 10 mins walk from the main shopping areas. We enjoyed it and found all the staff really friendly and helpful.
We were in room 114 which can only be accessed by stairs (no lift). Reception offered to change us to another floor which has a lift but we were settled in by then. Despite being October the room was very warm and we opened a window for fresh air which of course lets in the street and traffic noise. Also just outside the door of that room are really squaly floorbords which was annoying and disturbing at night. Only pther negtive was that there was no parking. The nearest recommended parking was on Waterloo Street in a Q Car Park. The hotel gave us a half price voucher for our overnight parking but the hotel was a stiff 10 minute walk from the car park. Not such fun when loaded with bags! Having said all that there were many positives. As it was our anniversary they had put chocolate covered strawberries in our room. The meal we had was excellent as was the breakfast. I would definitely go again but only if there was an offer!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main street.

Chewing gum on towels in bathroom, holes in floor boards covered by carpet, public areas needing cleaned well, repainted and upholstery stained. Carpet from restaurant to street level was grotty. A very busy hotel which needs much more care and investment to keep up with others.
A real disappointment.

I had my wedding here on 15th september, the staff were excellent, and the hotel amazing. I cannot see what people can complain about here. Yes, we had slight boy racer noise on the sunday night of our two night stay, however it lasted 30 minutes and was over by 12pm. yes, the room was slightly hot, but nothing over bearing!! i would rather it was a comfortable temperature than too cold. I think those who give 2 or 1 star and complain about the above are part of the "attack of the trip advisors".
Our breakfasts were first class with excellent variety, our cooked to order breakfast arrived prompt and hot. Our dinner on the wedding night was amazing, and loved by all. A massive thank you to the chef, who managed to get 40 dinners out, on time, hot, and presented immaculately. Everyone commenetd on how nice the wedding meal was. We were lucky to have such a nice bespoke menu, rather than some of the awful food many people have at weddings. Thank you malmaison for ensuring our day was one of our most memorable, we will certainly be back!
xx

Room Tip: maybe ask for 5 th floor.

we stayeds on Fri 21st Sept for the one night, we were in town for a concert, good location for town centre, staff very helpfull & welcoming, we liked the room & decor although a tad small but with a nice bathroom & shower and better than usual toiletries.

After concert came back to Bar and had a couple of drinks, bar was nicely busy with a good buzz & friendly staff. We did notice the surrounding streets were being used by the local boy racers driving round and round the block but fortunately this did not keep us awake (that may have been something to do with the wine). Scrambled Eggs & Smoked Salmon breakfast was excellent.

Location of hotel was ideal for us, parking so far away to ensure car secure in Q Park was the only inconvenience but overall an enjoyable stay & would go back.

Room Tip: standard rooms a tad small go for a larger room.

We pushed the boaty out and upgraded to a suite. We were not disappointed with what we got. Two lovely big rooms and an equally impressive bathroom. The staff on reception were very welcoming and helpful. Location is a little further out from the City Centre but still within walking distance. The only down side was lack of an outside area for drinks, but the bright and airy bar area definitely made up for this.
Try this place as it is a change from the stuffy corporate type hotels that you are often forced to stay in and you will not be disappointed.

We stayed for 2 nights the 22nd and 23rd of September and never got any sleep!!!
The outside is a racing track where large groups of teenagers race their car past your hotel window till 5am in the morning.
We complained to reception and were moved at 4am to another room where we still could hear the roar of engines.
The next morning when i complained again i was told theres nothing they can do!!!! and as a token of goodwill could have 30% discount off the night.
Well let me tell you when you book a hotel room you expect sleep and if you don't get it you should not be charged.
The hotel know this is a regular problem so if you value your sleep do not stop here .

Room Tip: "Bring ear plugs if you value your sleep"
