“Stunning Mackintosh and MacDonald interior”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

Although this is a reconstruction, it feels quite convincing on the inside. The Mackintoshes' house was but a stone's throw away, and all the materials and furnishings have been used here. You can only visit it as part of a guided tour, but this is FREE and has a very well informed guide. A lot is packed into the 30 minutes. It is a stunning display of his art, and of course not only his, but that of his wife, Margaret MacDonald, who is given due credit. Everything is light and white, even the wooden furniture. There's very little colour, except the small coloured glass motifs in some of the designs. It's not necessarily a house you'd want to live in - the chairs look more impressive than comfortable (you're not allowed to test them). Highly recommended

“Home of greatest Glasgow artist”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

What a wonderful home! Full of beautiful furniture and artefacts, a complete showpiece for Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonalds talents! Would fit into a contemporary home( mine would be ideal!) fell in love with the amazing talent of both of them all over again. The rooms have been relocated from original site beautifully. The tour guide was very informative and helpful, answering so many questions. A super MUST for any C R M fan!

“Don't miss this!”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Although not built by McIntosh himself it is constructed from his drawings and is testament to this man's greatness. It is also deserving of very high praise to the modern builders and to the Glasgow City Council who, I believe, commissioned it..

“Mackintosh fans”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Had a little trouble finding the Mackintosh House on the University of Glasgow campus. It's in a building that says "Library" at the top, if that helps. We checked in a little early for a tour (tour every 30 minutes) and got our free passes, then walked around the art gallery on the same floor as the entrance. We took the tour with one other couple on a Friday afternoon. Our guide was very professional and was able to answer any question we had about history/art/architecture. It was so interesting to tour this replica of Mackintosh's house with the original furniture. His wife's artwork was so unique, and even inspired Klimt! Even if you are not familiar with Mackintosh, this is a great tour to take and will familiarize you with one of Glasgow's most famous past residents.
