“Too rushed”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Access is via the Kelvingrove Art Galley and by guided tour only. The tour lasts 30 minutes but this is not enough time to see everything in the house properly. 45 minutes would be better. If you really want to see a Mackintosh interior, the House for an Art Lover in Bellahouston is much better.

“We loved this”
Reviewed 18 June 2014 via mobile

We're not particularly that artsy, but my 13 year old son and I loved it (and believe me he's more a playstation gamer)
What a vision this man and his wife had. So ahead of his time.
It was definitely worth the half hour of our time. Thank you ❤️

“a must see! Fantastic!!!”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

This is a must see attraction, especially if you like Charles Rennie Mackintosh… There are regular complimentary tours of the faithfully reconstructed ‘flat/rooms’ that Mackintosh lived in with his wife Margaret MacDonald Mackintosh. You really have to see this spectacular ‘exhibit’ to appreciate the extent of the Mackintosh’s genius! Especially when you take into account that in the Victorian era, the ‘norm’ was for dark rooms, dark ceilings and dark heavy furniture… here you can further appreciate the innovative designs and remarkable creations that both Charles Rennie Mackintosh & his wife Margaret MacDonald Mackintosh crafted. Although this tour doesn't take long it is amazing!
The easiest way we’ve found to get there is by taxi, as The Mackintosh Rooms are opposite the University of Glasgow (there is a café in the University of Glasgow that serves reasonable priced food etc. too).
There are usually taxis passing by for you to flag down for the way back or you can ring for one, if you remember to ask the taxi that takes you for a ‘card’ or a receipt with the number on… the journey one way, as at June 2014, is just under £7 from the centre of Glasgow...

“An amazing experience!”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

The interior of this house is absolutely stunning and despite the fact that it is a reconstruction (the house was demolished in the early 1960s, but the original fixtures were preserved and reassembled, complete with the contents, as an integral part of the Hunterian Art Gallery), you are instantly transported into the Mackintoshes home in Glasgow, complete with lots of original furniture. My only regret was that the visit was much too short and very rushed, you get only 30 minutes! But it is free and the guide was excellent and really knew his stuff! It simply means that I will have to visit again!
