“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

Stayed here on a hen night. Not much in the way of choice of cocktails but the hotel was everything you expect of a good hotel. Would stay again, close to main shopping area and good service. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment.

Stayed with friends, had a double and and executive double room, both very clean and spacious. Beds comfortable and on site parking (would have expected parking to be free) is very handy. Great location and the breakfast is one of the best I've had in a hotel.

stayed for a friends birthday in October and had a great night. the rooms were clean, the bed massive and very comfortable. it was surprisingly quiet as its 2 minutes from Sauchiehall Street which was absolutely mobbed by shoppers. there was parking underneath at £6 per night for guests which is reasonable. the staff were all helpful and the function suite was decorated lovely for my friends party. the breakfast was really good with plenty of choice. we didn't use the pool or gym.

Room Tip: the room value but the bar was quite expensive-take a carry out

My colleague had stayed here and said that I should stay here as he found it great. Check in very smooth and the staff very friendly, happy and helpful - great overall experience. The room that was allocated on 4th floor was spacious and clean (almost). Black stuff around the shower/bath.

I decided to eat in the hotel. The menu encompasses all tastes and prices. I thought I would have a starter and main off the main menu although there was a "market menu" which I assumed was the same as daily specials. I picked the terrine and asked if this came with bread or similar. The waitress assured me it came with toast - it didn't. It was very tasty and the onion jam was tasty but probably only a tablespoon full. For my main course I ordered a sirloin steak, cooked medium. On the menu it was accompanied by "chunky chips". Wrong; these were bog standard frozen chips. They were chunky in relation to skinny French fries but not what most people would refer to as chunky. The steak came and was a bit on the pink side but at least wasn't bleeding. It wasn't warn either - it was cold. I left half of this and half of the chips and the half tomato as this was also cold. When the waitress came to collect the dishes she asked was everything okay. I pointed out that my steak was cold. She did offer to get me something else but I thought (for a nanosecond) if the chef can't get a steak right, why would I want something else from the kitchen?

Can't say I'd stay here again as I would rather stay elsewhere.

We have stayed at this hotel many times before and have always found the reception staff to be excellent - welcoming, efficient and helpful.

Our rooms this time (201 & 709) were fine but not as good as our other visits. We very much appreciated our upgrade to a king size bed in one room however if we had booked this type of room and paid the price for it we feel we would have been a little disappointed - the sink was cracked , taps wouldn't turn off properly and overall the bathroom was tired looking. We know that there are much nicer rooms in the hotel! Complimentary water is a nice touch thank you.

We had drinks in the bar which was great as always - we don't feel it is overpriced, as mentioned in a few reviews, about right for city centre hotel.

We didn't have breakfast included with the room, however chose to add it - unfortunately we didn't actually get it! There didn't seem to be enough staff on shift to cope with the demand. The queue to be seated was growing, staff were working hard, but no one seemed to be managing the situation. We tried to order from the menu rather than selecting the full buffet, however everyone was so busy they forgot to put the order in! Despite being very apologetic, we felt the situation wasn't going to get any better (we heard a few complaints and staff looked quite stressed) and decided to go elsewhere. We provided feedback at reception who, again, were apologetic and promised to feedback.

I've given a three star rating - we have stayed before and never had any issues - for which 4 and 5 star would have been appropriate but this visit was disappointing so I've averaged it out. The hotel was very busy due to an awards function being held there, so maybe it was just the demand on staff and rooms this weekend.

We'll probably be back as we have had many excellent stays, and it is such a good location for city centre, but may think twice if we have another disappointing time.

Positives - Gym, pool, spa (reflexology & massage), location (close to shops and restaurants), spacious room.

Negatives - Noisy machines were situated right outside our bedroom window. Female showers at Otium were not very clean. No changing rooms.

We got a warm welcome from the reception staff although the room was not ready until 14:00. They advised us we could leave our luggage in a store free of charge until then. The room was very clean when we got in although the requested single beds were not in evidence. A request at reception rectified this.
Food was left outside an adjacent room for a very long period of time without being cleared away.
The swimming pool was great for a hotel, as was the sauna & steam room.
Beer & wine was way overpriced, £4.50 for a pint of Tennent's Lager and over £5.00 for a small wine, but the service was good nevertheless.
