“Overpriced and grimy (still think that should be spelled grimey !)”
Reviewed 5 October 2012

The only good thing about this hotel is its location. It was in easy walking distance of my business meeting and of the city centre.

It is overpriced- even taking into account its city location.(It was booked for c £115 through a corporate agency but you may get a better deal via the web). It wasn’t immediately obvious from their website that they don’t have a restaurant. Only breakfast and sandwiches are available. I had had a long, tiring, journey and even though they have a deal with the restaurant next door- the inability to order a hot food or room service was a definite minus.

The bed was comfortable though despite their claim re pillows all mine seemed firm. It was noisy. I did not have a good night’s sleep. The ‘power shower’ is no more powerful than my domestic most definitely non-power shower.

The carpet in my room was grimy and need replacing. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work and was also very grimy. For some reason I had been allocated a disabled room and the disabled fittings were also very dirty and needed a deep clean. The bathroom smelt stale and there was hint old urine in the air. Yuk!

Breakfast was a bit of a bun fight. The scrambled eggs were surprisingly good but the only sausages were meat – no veggie alternative. The rolls were uninspiring and the layout of the buffet is poor and cramped. Staff seemed to ignore this and tried to walk through guests. The coffee was good, the fruit was tired. At busy times there is not enough seating.

Security seemed good even though there were no safes in the rooms. Access to the lifts and stairwells requires a room key. This is good.

For the price paid I would expect a trouser press or iron in the room. There was neither.

The lighting was inadequate for working/reading.

The reception staff were helpful when pressed but not spontaneously so. The breakfast staff less so. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to stay here – or another Holiday Inn Express – again.

The photos aren't great as they were taken at night on my mobile – but they show enough.

We stayed in the hotel three days, the breakfast was good and complete. The rooms were medium sized but with some quirks like not working electrical sockets and weird smelling cleaning products. Overall a solid 3/5, considering its proximity to the Central station.

My husband and 1 stayed here for 2 nights. Location was very good, only 5 min walk to Argyle street which is city centre. Hotel was very clean and comfortable, breakfast was more than ample with continental and hot choices. Cereals were kelloggs, unusual in hotels and B & B's. I could not fault it in any way. Car park very near by at £10 for 24 hours

I stayed here for a couple of nights and got what I expected from a HI Express. Breakfast was included and done just fine for what I was after, creal, fruits and some hot stuff.
Location is perfect for city centre, some noise from the street and local pubs at night, but then it is a city centre hotel so what else would you expect!
However the staff were great, they really make the hotel stand out from the average HI Express fare. The Night Manager Iain and the Evening Manager Chris were both really friendly the night of my stay, and Agnes was so helpful with my onward journey plans in the morning that I got the feeling that th staff really care about their guests experience with them.
All in all I reccomend this hotel if you're looking for a short one or two night no frills city break.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights during a trip to see friends in Glasgow. We chose a convenient hotel over luxury because we were planning to spend most of the time sight seeing and with our friends.

The hotel is in a perfect location, its just a five minute walk into the city centre.

We arrived early to the hotel because of flight times and our room was available straight away. This was great as it enabled us to leave our luggage and start a day of sight seeing!

The room itself was lovely, good ammenties, clean, spacious bathroom - no complaints.

The breakfast was great, a nice cosy feeling area to sit in with a TV showing the news channel. Lots of choice available and everything was lovely.

I would definitely stay here again when visiting Glasgow. Its a great bagain hotel with everything you need for a short stay.
