“Family atmosphere and great food”
Reviewed 18 September 2011

Not an obvious location or exterior - be brave - the food is superb - family owned - Mum cooks, dad is sous chief (pans a speciality) and daughter is front of house.

Best flavoured Cullen Skink, I have ever had, clearly made to order and served with fresh crusty bread, followed by Beef Olives, tender and meaty.

The kids ordered chips - more like goose fat roast potatos in texture - fluffy in the middle.

About £15 a head plus drink - reasonable and huge portions

The menu changes daily - what a refreshing change from pre portioned chilled food

Hi , so glad you and the family enjoyed your meal at the Black Sheep , changing the menu slightly daily can be good as our regular customers enjoy the variaty the down side is when customer really enjoyed a dish and the next visit it is not on the menu, we try to make the Bistro as family friendly as we can and accomadate the kids by cooking them home style food , it makes it a more relaxing meal for the grown ups if the kids are happy , hope to see you again soon

“Disappointed”
Reviewed 18 September 2011

I decided to visit the Black Sheep Bistro after reading the Trip Advisor reviews where it was #1. But I was really disappointed. I thought a lot before deciding to write this review, mainly because of Claire, the daughter of the owners, who was the server at that night. She is so polite, so warm-hearted, very attentive trying to explain everything to us...But to avoid being unfair to readers and others restaurants, I decided to review it.
The ambiance, although looking like the kitchen of a home, is very unhappy.
The food, albeit tasty, is too much home-made, the presentation very poor.
When I go to a restaurant, I don't like home-made food. I like something different.
Maybe it is my fault. So, if someone ask me to suggest a restaurant in Glasgow and this someone enjoy home-made food, I will certainly propose the Black Sheep Bistro. But if this someone is looking for restaurant food, sorry, The Black Sheep Bistro isn't the right place.

Hi , thank you for taking the time to review the Black Sheep and I am glad you found my daughter to be a good waitress , sorry you did not enjoy the food but your review is helpful as people who enjoy fine dining will read and realise it is not something the Black Sheep does and can go to Glasgows many other fine dining establishments

“Beats the City Centre restaurants hands down”
Reviewed 18 September 2011

Went to this restaurant with another couple and, because I had recommended it after reading Trip Advisor, was a bit apprehensive. Food, friendly service and ambience were great. Starter was delicious - we all had different things- and plentiful. Main courses were fabulous. Filet steak (a big piece!) was cooked exactly the way I asked and was half the price you would pay in the city centre! Loads of sides along with the mains. Gorgeous plate of cauliflower cheese. Unfortunately we were so full that only one of us had room for desert. When it came 4 spoons arrived too, and no wonder - it was huge! We all dived in and agreed that the puff candy ice-cream was simply the best!! May your business go from strength to strength. You are doing everything right. Thanks for a great night.

“Fantastic Food with a very warm welcome!”
Reviewed 15 September 2011

We found this gem after searching for somewhere new to dine in Glasgow and have never looked back since. It might not be the easiest place to find and from the outside it would be easy to drive right by (which we nearly did on our first visit!) but once you are inside any misgivings we had were simply melted away by the warm welcome we received by Claire. The recipe is varied and caters for all tastes and we have since discovered that it also changes regularly which is an added bonus! The owner, Angela is obviously passionate about cooking and this reflects in the dishes she prepares. Every meal we have had has ticked all our boxes and the puddings (all home-made) are simply fantastic. (Angela even took the trouble to research and create a Manchester tart for us. Something I had craved since since my schooldays!.....thank you!) This goes to show just what sort of place this is, nothing is too much trouble, they simply want you to come and have a good meal at their bistro. We just cannot rate this place highly enough and is now the top of our list when deciding where to eat out.

“Excellent, honest feed”
Reviewed 15 September 2011

Visit purely based on Tripadvisor reviews and not disappointed.
Roast lamb dinner excellent, with all the trimmings.
Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon could have been 'scaled down'... a little overwhelming. Great toast on the side.
The deserts looked home made and delicious but we just didn't have the space!
Friendly service, very welcoming.
Nothing flash, no fine dining but real honest food. Would definitely return and recommend.
