“worth a stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2013

I had booked myself a double room as I like light and space. On arrival a friendly greeting and a choice of room with bath or shower. I went for the shower. The room had two long windows and so it was very light. I loved the silver furniture designed in the french style and the bathroom was spacious with a generous shower. Al large flat screen TV on the wall gave an excellent picture.
Breakfast was plentiful and my Grand daughter who lived in a student flat round the corner was able to join me for this, at a reasonable charge.
I have only one quibble and that is a matter of taste. Some may love little extras such as scatter cushions on the bed and a sort of runner thing that served no purpose. I found these things annoying as they had to be removed before getting into bed and every time the bed was made they were back in place. Just a small annoyance that would not stop me returing.
I was pleased with my choice and would use this hotel again if returnign to Glasgow.

Room Tip: I was lucky in getting the honeymoon room as it was romantic and quirky and suited me well. This was...

Have kind of mixed opinions of this hotel as myself and partner were booked into the Honeymoon suite so that would have room to assist with celebrating my mothers 72nd birthday on the first night along with my sister who had very recently turned 50 accompanying us were an aunt and uncle, when booking through booking.com I had asked for a twin room for my mother and sister plus a double for aunt and uncle unfortunately during the mad rush to check in at 1430 not a moment sooner we were to discover that not only had my mother and sister been put into a double bed they were also accommodated in the labyrinth like guest house called an annexe in the sales pitch, as the hotel was packed with people also wishing to watch the Olly Murrs and Robbie Williams concert at Hampden Park there was not a suitable change.
On the plus side Nicola in the reception was a wee gem for local information and the honeymoon suite was well worth the additional capital outlay.

Room Tip: Do accommodate yourselves in the annexe which is a separate guest house with a labyrinth style of ac...

Excellent location near park, museums university and vibrant cafes. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Room ( comfy four poster bed) clean and reasonable size with good en suite. Rather noisy revellers and traffic when window was open but it is city location.

The reception staff were excellent and the breakfast arrangements excellent. The lady who looked after our breakfast was super. We had the MacPherson room, which is a large elegant ground floor room. It's probably classed as a family room (there were 4 beds including the double), so most of the clan could have stayed in it! The en-suite bathroom is a bit meagre and not much bigger than a walk in wardrobe! The clan would would have to go in strict order... In spite of being on the ground floor, you don't hear the traffic outside. It's just across the road from Kelvingrove Park and a very short step from the Art Gallery and Museum, the SECC and restaurants etc in Byres road. They can have a taxi outside the door for you in a minute (it's £5-6 from the City Centre and about £12 to Pollok Park and the Burrell Collection). We'd definitely go to this nice hotel again.

Room Tip: 105 is for a clan...

It was nice to stay at this hotel, very good relation quality and price and in my opinion very well located, not too far from the center and very close to a wonderfull park, cultural area, and SECC.

I hope to repeat the staying.

Stayed one night here and no complaints at all. Clean, friendly staff (especially at breakfast), good brekkie, great location. Park, art gallery, bus links, good restaurants (try Mother India for a top notch curry) and close to town. Bed comfy and a good nights sleep. Would definitely stay sgain.

Stayed here for three nights and found the hotel staff friendly, room clean and very spacious (ended up with a family sized room for just two of us!)', and tasty breakfast with a range of options! The breakfast room staff are very nice and conscientious. Highly recommend cooked porridge which they will make with water or milk, as per your request.
The barman, Lawrie, in the hotel bar called Sutherland's is genial guy who draws a fine pint of St Mungo's lager, a locally brewed, crisp and thirst quenching antidote to long days of city walking and Scottish country dancing. They have Gaelic lessons on Friday nights that draw in a small but committed group of locals and a piper often shows up.
The hotel is a very short walk from Kelvingrove Park and museum. walk through the park to U of Edinburgh and the Hunterian Gallery.
A 15 minute walk to good eating. Try Number 16 on Byers Rd where the chef and many of the serving staff are from the isle of Arran. Try the scallops and save room for the housemade ice creams. From there walk up to Ashton Lane to see the street that time forgot. Also lots of curry options near the Argyll like Mother of India and Ashoka.
Several frequent buses to take you to centre of town.
No bath tub, only shower. Clean but a slightly bad door in the bathroom. A minor thing as the pluses outweighed it.

Room Tip: If you are troubled by noise! Ask for a room at the back of hotel so you won't hear street level...
