“Small room”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

Booked hotel for weekend away with husband. The room was very small and was very hot. Too cool down we needed to open the window which then meant that it was very noisy. Staff friendly and great location.

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Mercure Glasgow City hotel.

I am sorry that you felt your room to be small, the hotel is of an older design and as such the room sizes can vary. Unfortunately, the hotel does not have air conditioning installed, being an older building. We are happy to provide fans on request if need be.

I do hope that you will decide to stay with us again in the future.

Kind regards

This hotel is one of the nicest hotels I have ever been in. The staff are wonderful and the rooms are lovely and so polite. Cleanest hotel inside and outside that I have seen for a long time! I had an amazing stay here and would recommend it to anyone. It was also only £60p/n which I would say was a bargain for the standard the hotel is.

Room Tip: Any room, I was on the 1st floor, room 111.. The view wasn't that nice as there was building wor...

Hotel staff were very courteous, professional and went out of their way to help. The hotel is extremely well located for central Glasgow and trips to the highlands, breakfast was great value too. All in all a very good place to stay and highly recommended.

First, the positives. The Mercure is in the centre of Glasgow with shopping, restaurants and the city's wonderfully exuberant Victorian commercial architecture all around you. The staff are for the most part friendly and obliging. The food that we tried from the 24 hour menu after returning from an evening theatre, the soup, and a pizza, was very acceptable. The negatives. One over which the hotel unfortunately has no control is its situation next to the old Corinthian Club, a lovely building architecturally, now unfortunately a very popular night spot out of which tumble well lubricated patrons who think it funny to hoot, holler and scream until the wee hours. On the Saturday night we were there this went on until until 3.30 a.m. and if, as we do, you like fresh air at night it is very hard to sleep. Another is the room size, at least for the standard rooms. We had booked and prepaid on a '3 nights for 2' deal. Whether this had anything to do with it I don't know, but the room we were allocated had very tired décor, and was crammed with old furniture. When we complained and asked for another room we were initially turned down. We then checked the bathroom and found that not only was that similarly tired, but that there was a large crack in the hand basin which had been clumsily patched. Another complaint was this time successful. Our new room was in much better decorative order, although still with too much furniture for its size. I know that hotels redo their rooms on a rotating basis, but there must be a point at which a chain proud of its name takes a room out of use until it has been refreshed. A good point - rooms have good size flat screen TVs. These could easily be wall mounted and the piece of furniture that basically serves as its base got rid of, giving more space to the room. North Americans might like to note that like many other European hotels the Mercure considers the facecloth as being personal to the guest and therefore does not supply any with the towels.

Room Tip: Try and get away from facing the night club next door, particularly on weekend nights.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience at the Mercure Glasgow City hotel.

It is unfortunate that you stay was marred by noise issues. I am sorry for this, we do work very closely with the neighbouring pubs and clubs to ensure that noise is kept to a minimum. The hotel team will investigate all issues presented to them.

The hotel is of an older design and as such the room sizes can vary, however standards of decoration are similar throughout.

I do hope that your experience has not put you off booking another Mercure property in the future.

Yours sincerely

Very conveniently situated in central Glasgow within reach of a wealth of restaurants, business offices, shops and both railway stations. Well run and comfortable my only comment is that the rooms are tiny! Too tiny in fact to find somewhere for an ironing board.

The location was great for our purposes and the price was right, but the room was tiny. Had we been in Glasgow for several days, I would have been disappointed with this choice. The staff was pleasant. We had no issues with noise.

Fantastic location for the train station and also many good bars and restaurants in Glasgow. In addition this hotel is great value for a wee sleep over in Glasgow. Reception area was very welcoming, as were the staff. Our room was maybe a little small but very clean; bedding and bathroom. Overall the hotel was clean and well kept, though maybe needing a wee refurbishment beyond the reception area though the restaurant was absolutely fine. Our bedroom also backed on to the Corinthian but we heard no noise from it or from the street, we slept really well, though like another reviewer there was noise from the radiators. Breakfast was very good; plenty of choice both healthy and otherwise! The price for our stay was very reasonable and if you are looking for a city centre hotel rather than get a train home this is one for you.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for an upper floor.
