“Great stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2013

Then Hilton, Glasgow was lovely. I'm not sure if I would say 5*, but still it was a really nice hotel. The room was decorated really nice, and we had a fantastic view across the city. There were a few things that looked like they needed repairing in the bathroom, that's why I wouldn't say 5* but apart from that it was nice. Location was a little walk from the city centre...felt like it could do with a back entrance rather than having to walk all the way round the building to get the front! Concierge was really helpful and all staff friendly too. good value and would stay again

Spent two nights here with another couple. We still got lost even with Sat nav and hotel directions. Probably more to do with us. Once we arrived, concierge immediately took our luggage and check in was quick and easy. We had rooms 1105 and 1106 - 11th floor with a good view of the M8, Very quiet as at the end of the corridor. Only heard the minutest hum if you put your ear to the window - absolutely no problem sleeping.

Rooms very good, king sized bed, sofa, desk etc. Good sized tv - easy to find hotel info and tv channels. Bath and overhead shower very clean.

Staff in the bar very pleasant and helped us with the menu. We were rather confused about the dining room menu until it was explained the next day. The dining room has a buffet menu for £30 - all you can eat - plus a supplement if you add from the a la carte menu. Coffee here was extra which seemed a bit mean.

Breakfast was very good - enormous selection - enjoyed smoked salmon. Plenty of fresh fruit, usual cold meats and cheeses - pastries etc. We paid extra to include breakfast which we felt was good value.

We ate in the dining room on our second night and the choice was excellent - plus a carvery.

One complaint - the charge for wi-fi. Would not expect to pay for this in a 5* hotel, or even a modest bed and breakfast. We got round this by not turning on the laptop for two days!!

We used the spa late afternoon when there were only two other people in the pool, and again early in the morning when I had the pool to myself. Good sized pool for a hotel, with jaccuzzi, sauna and steam room. Maybe a little tired, and the changing rooms could have been a bit cleaner, but not complaining. It was lovely to have a city hotel with a pool. Towels provided, but a bit small - no doubt they would have given more if asked - staff helpful and friendly.

We found the dining room staff very helpful - one young waitress recommended the haggis. When I asked if she had eaten it she pulled a face and said no! I tried a little at dinner and it was ok - but there were much tastier things on the menu. The reception staff were very good, helpful and friendly. They gave us £1 vouchers for the hop-on hop-off bus.

Hotel not as near restaurants, shops etc. as we would have liked. We would have walked it, but friends a bit older and too much for them.

Check out was easy, and £12 for parking the car for 2 days we felt was very reasonable. It is secure under the hotel with lift access - easy to get the luggage back into the car.

A very enjoyable stay, we felt very good value for the amount we paid.

We would recommend the hotel, although it is not in the centre of the city which might put some people off.

Room Tip: The higher the room the better the view of the M8 - and the distant hills. Rooms 1105 and 1106 at t...

Generally an excellent experience in good surroundings. A couple of room maintenance problems but nothing to spoil stay. Really good breakfast and staff service. Location a good 15 minute walk from Citty centre so in bad weather reliant on taxis which late at night not easy to come by. Decor and surroundings top rate.

Since we were here in December and had a problem with our room, we were upgraded to the 20th floor and given an executive room with all that comes with it. Entrance to the executive lounge, but no wifi.
It was a pity that I was suffering from a heavy cold on this stay as it interfered with my enjoyment I always get staying here, but I was still able to get good use of the sauna and pool, restaurant and bar. Yes, it is quite expensive, but worth it to stay in such a great city.

Room Tip: If you don't need your car don't bring it. Parking fees are a bit heavy.

The Hilton Glasgow, in the southwestern corner of the city, is a nice hotel, but is not close to anything of interest. Even walking from the hotel to the city takes you through some not-so-nice streets and alleys. The closest bus stop is about 3 blocks away. There are other hotels just as nice closer to the city center, shopping, and restaurants.

The welcome at check in was very quick, warm and friendly. There were no room upgrades available so I was given a 'VIP benefit' instead.
The rooms are a good size and have been very recently refurbished. As you would expect from a Hilton, the beds are lovely.
The bathroom was very generous and had an excellent shower. I had missed the huge and fluffy Hilton towels, so they were appreciated too!
The WiFi in the hotel was excellent - very fast and good coverage in the rooms.
The hotel Bar was well appointed and had a good food and wine selection (though prices were a little high, even for a city centre Hilton).
The hotel Gym was really very good, the staff were friendly and there was a good selection of machines available even though the gym did get quite busy at times.
Overall an excellent stay and if the price was right I would stay here again.

Did an overnight stay at the hotel with my wife, pre-booked using ' Hotwire secret rooms' i.e. didn't know where we would be staying until the booking was made. This was at a cost of £85 (which was room only ...no breakfast).

Considering the normal cost of these rooms, not too over the top.

Car parking is discounted at £12.00 per 24 hours for hotel guests....should be free parking for hotel guests as far as I'm concerned, stayed in a few other Hiltons on business and never yet paid for car parking.

No complaints about the room, very comfortable, large and well laid out.

Spa .....only used the pool area (very nice and clean) so cannot comment on any treatments

Restaurants.... ate out so cannot comment

Reception staff very efficient and friendly

All in all a good experience although for £85 I would have hoped for a breakfast thrown in :-)
