“This 70th birthday present from my daughter proved a great disappointment.”
Reviewed 8 April 2011

It was not a warm day but the 6th floor double room was unbearably hot on arrival. We set the individually controlled air-cond to max cool while we were out for a meal but it proved ineffective and noisy. On return we opened the window which allowed cool air in but noise from mechanical equipment (on the roof?) was unpleasant and meant the curtain had to be open to be effective with resulting loss of privacy. We spent an uncomfortably warm night with no bedclothes.
Another problem was the wash hand basin, the waste pipe of which was almost totally blocked. This meant that eg. after brushing teeth even under very low flow, the basin took a long time to drain. The duty manager was informed of these problems in the morning and he facetiously suggested we should have slept naked and offered us an upgrade next time we stayed!.

We arrived to a lovely Scottish welcome at reception. I had asked when booking if it was possible to have a room with a balcony - I know, crazy in Scotland - and was so pleased that we were upgraded to a lovely room with balcony. For a girl originally from Queensland, Australia, I will always remember standing out there on the balcony and watching the HEAVY snow fall.

The room was large and plush. Bed comfy and made for sleep.

The hotel itself was in a fantastic location. The inhouse restaurant is located on the top floor with lovely views. We also had access to the Executive Lounge. This is where you can use free wifi etc. have a pre-dinner drink or night cap.

In all, a wonderful stay at the Carlton George.

Excellent location, especially if travelling by train. From reception to restaurant to reservations and everywhere in between, service is first rate.
We were allocated a spacious, newly refurbished club room and loved the fact that you could have a cooked breakfast, delivered to your room, at no extra cost. Touches like that and the complimentary drinks make this hotel stand out.
Will be back there again soon.

Thanks for your excellent feedback. We decided that we didn't want to penalise our guests for eating in their rooms- no charges for room service here. The complimentery drinks in every room are also a popular feature.

I'm delighted that you liked our hotel. Come back soon!

I stayed here for one night on business, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Nice central location (although a bit of a trek with a bag from the nearest car park) and a good sized clean room. Water for the shower in the morning wasn't the warmest though.

Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you liked the hotel and sorry about the water temperature. You can always drop your bags off at reception before parking the car at Buchanna Galleries car park.

We live in Glasgow but decided to stay a night away in our own city for my husband's birthday. Staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming from pre-booking enquiry to check out. We were upgraded to a club room with balcony which was very clean and comfortable with access to the Executive Lounge and also complimentary bar and decanters in our room. If you chose to have breakfast in your room there is no service charge, which is a very nice touch. You are slap bang in the centre of town so train, underground, buses & taxis are all on the hotel's doorstep. Within no distance at all you have Glasgow City Chambers on George Square, The Gallery of Modern Art countless places to eat and drink and of course shop. We did not eat at the hotel but had lunch at Balthassar in Ingram Street which was excellent & supper at Jamie Oliver's which was also very good.
All in all a very pleasant experience which we would repeat - even in our own city!

Husband and I have stayed here several times before and the hotel has never failed to please.

It is in an excellant location close to both railway stations, the subway and all the shopping areas. Our preferred rooms were not available and we were given a club room on the 3rd floor which is due to be refurbished shortly. Although there were a couple of minor maintenance issues (which were attended to rapidly by the hotel) the room was still comfortable and clean with good facilities - large flat screen TV with loads of satellite channels, free mini bar and spirit decanters, well stocked hospitality tray, robes and slippers and pleasant, though rather frugal, supplies of toiletries.

We dined in the restaurant, Windows, one night. The food was very good but the restauarant lacks atmosphere if there are not many diners.

In summary a good quality hotel with friendly staff who actually appear to value your custom in a great location. Some reviewers have said it is expensive - we paid £130 pn for a club room which included breakfast and the free mini bar, and access to the lounge with free coffees and soft drinks in the day and alcohol in the evening. I think this offers extremely good value for a city centre hotel.
