Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 19 September 2012

This hotel could have been rated "Excellent" if it wasn't. for the service. First, the rooms and the hotel itself are excellent. No complaints. Nice sized rooms and complimentary mini bar. Great as far as hotels go. However, the front desk staff were so horrible at directions, it cost us an two hours and forty-five minutes of our trip.
When asked about a car park, the front desk staff showed us on a map a car park where they had a rate. When we first reached the corner, we didn't see a car park. After maybe 20 minutes of circling (there are many one way streets), we came to the same corner again. No visible car park. After going up and down the block and a total of about 45 min, we decided to park in a car park specific to a large gallery. We walked back to the hotel and they told us it was the correct place. If they had just told us the name of the gallery we were to park in, we would have seen it on the first go-around. On the way out of the car park, we noticed it closed at 22:30pm. When we asked the front desk what time it opened, they said 8am. They didn't bother to mention this when we first asked and we had to leave at 5am for a flight. They said we would have to move our car and PAY for the parking, even though it was there error. They told us there was also parking at Queens Street. My friend and I again drove up and down Queens Street looking for a parking lot. This took another half hour because we couldn't find any car parks along the street and had to make large loops around a square to come back around. We finally pulled into a train station to park and looked to see if their hours would be ok - which they were. We also noticed, once we pulled in, that the station (in addition to the actual street) is called Queens Street. So, the staff again, could have said that we should park at the train station but instead gave us the name of the street. All in all, it took us 1:45 before we were parked and at the hotel. We planned on walking around Glasgow for an hour before dinner, but had no time.
We also asked about our flight to Dublin the next morning. The front desk staff said the airport was one hour away from the hotel, so we woke accordingly. When we put "Glasgow Airport" into the GPS, there were 2 available. One was an hour away and one was 7 miles (about 10 minutes) away. We went inside and asked a NEW front desk person which airport we should go to. He was very helpful and told us it was the one that was only 7 miles away. We woke up one hour earlier than needed because the staff told us the wrong airport. Do not depend on this staff for directions under any circumstance. It ruined our one evening in Glasgow.

On another note, there was some sort of air conditioner or machine outside our hotel window the rumbled through the night. For us it was great because we like white noise for sleeping, but others may not like it.

My husband and I stayed here for one night only, we parked at Buchannan Galleries car park (special rate for hotel guests), the Hotel is only one block down Buchanan Street from the Car Park and shopping Centre, absolutely brilliant location for shopping and eating and drinking out. Hotel welcome was fantastic, room fabulous, lovely hotel all round. We chose an Executive room which gives you access to the Executive Lounge which was fantastic. Free mini bar in room and complimentary decanters of spirits in room were quite a novelty. We didnt have dinner in the Hotel however the menu looked good, breakfast was just lovely in the rooftop restaurant. Will most definately stay again and cant wait until we do, overall a fantastic hotel and couldnt fault a thing.

Room Tip: its worth paying the extra for an Executive room

We stayed at this hotel while attending a wedding in Glasgow. The room was lovely but very dark, poor lighting. Bed was very comfortable and the room kept very clean.

Breakfast was excellent - the presentation in the restaurant was not that great but the taste exceptional.

Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel has a great location in the centre of Glasgow.

Room Tip: the hotel is above a pub so maybe higher is better?

After my previous experience I decided to repeat the trip. As before a MOST enjoyable stay. A comfortable hotel in a central location, with all the expected facilities. Once again I found it well worth paying the extra for a room accessing the Executive Lounge. There were two problems during the stay, one of which I understand was due to another guest but both were sorted out professionally and promptly by hotel staff. Every establishment has problems at times and it is how the hotel deals with it that shows a good or a bad hotel. Excellent food throughout although I personally preferred the previous menu. Once again Paul and his young staff (too many to mention all by name) in the restaurant made every effort to ensure that I enjoyed my stay – and they succeeded – THANKS to you all.

My wife and I had stayed in the Carlton George for a couple of nights earlier this year. This time we had 2 rooms as our 17 year old daughter was with us. The consensus all round is that we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The rooms and facilities in them are excellent and staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good but we didn't try dinner there. The executive lounge is a nice place to "chill out" after a hard days shopping. Location couldn't be better for the main shopping areas in Glasgow city centre. It's also around the corner from Queen Street Station which is very handy.

We recently stayed at this hotel - we had 2 rooms and each one was excellent. Decor, cleanliness were excellent and a very comfortable kingsize bed! Free mini bar in room excellent and a very nice touch!! If you upgrade your room you get access to the lounge where again you can have nibbles and complimentary drinks which is excellent! Location was great and the staff at the desk couldn't have been nicer & very helpful! Restaurant was very good - we didn't have an evening meal but the breakfast was very good and piping hot! Would definately recommend this hotel, we will be staying here again on future visits to Glasgow!! (Would also like to recomment an excellent restaurant which isn't too far from the hotel - although we did get a taxi - Grill on the Corner - excellent restaurant food and service were brilliant)!!!

Room Tip: If you so wish to have drinks in the evening it is worth upgrading your room so you can get access t...

I stayed in Carlton George for one week in August 2012.
This is a very good place to stay in Glasgow fro several reasons. First of all it is located in the center of the city AND next door to the Queen street train station. Most of what you want to see within walking distance. King size bed is unusual in Europe at the sub $300 per night price point.
Staff was very helpful and friendly. From the Queen Street Station you can take a train to Edinburgh, its only 50 minutes.
There is free mini-bar in that hotel. The mini bar consists of two parts: one a traditional, small refrigerator and scotch, gin and vodka decanters.
I stayed in "business room" which gives you free Wi Fi and access to the 7th floor lounge where you can have free snacks and drinks. That would be a good place to meet with colleges or friends before taking off for the night or coming back.
The included breakfast was OK: scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, meats and fruits. Oh yes, you can order breakfast to your room, which worked out really nice. Staff was very punctual and my breakfast was delivered on time. I used it a couple of times.
This hotel is an exceptional value for such a good service.

Room Tip: I arrived very early and the only room available was on the 1st floor, which is just above the groun...
