This hotel could have been rated "Excellent" if it wasn't. for the service. First, the rooms and the hotel itself are excellent. No complaints. Nice sized rooms and complimentary mini bar. Great as far as hotels go. However, the front desk staff were so horrible at directions, it cost us an two hours and forty-five minutes of our trip.
When asked about a car park, the front desk staff showed us on a map a car park where they had a rate. When we first reached the corner, we didn't see a car park. After maybe 20 minutes of circling (there are many one way streets), we came to the same corner again. No visible car park. After going up and down the block and a total of about 45 min, we decided to park in a car park specific to a large gallery. We walked back to the hotel and they told us it was the correct place. If they had just told us the name of the gallery we were to park in, we would have seen it on the first go-around. On the way out of the car park, we noticed it closed at 22:30pm. When we asked the front desk what time it opened, they said 8am. They didn't bother to mention this when we first asked and we had to leave at 5am for a flight. They said we would have to move our car and PAY for the parking, even though it was there error. They told us there was also parking at Queens Street. My friend and I again drove up and down Queens Street looking for a parking lot. This took another half hour because we couldn't find any car parks along the street and had to make large loops around a square to come back around. We finally pulled into a train station to park and looked to see if their hours would be ok - which they were. We also noticed, once we pulled in, that the station (in addition to the actual street) is called Queens Street. So, the staff again, could have said that we should park at the train station but instead gave us the name of the street. All in all, it took us 1:45 before we were parked and at the hotel. We planned on walking around Glasgow for an hour before dinner, but had no time.
We also asked about our flight to Dublin the next morning. The front desk staff said the airport was one hour away from the hotel, so we woke accordingly. When we put "Glasgow Airport" into the GPS, there were 2 available. One was an hour away and one was 7 miles (about 10 minutes) away. We went inside and asked a NEW front desk person which airport we should go to. He was very helpful and told us it was the one that was only 7 miles away. We woke up one hour earlier than needed because the staff told us the wrong airport. Do not depend on this staff for directions under any circumstance. It ruined our one evening in Glasgow.
On another note, there was some sort of air conditioner or machine outside our hotel window the rumbled through the night. For us it was great because we like white noise for sleeping, but others may not like it.
