“DELIGHTFULL BUT NOT 4****”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2011

Staff at the hotel excellant and very polite and helpfull. We were given a free upgrade, the room was spotless but bed proved to be quite dangerous,If you lean against the headboard whilst in bed the bed moves away from the wall, not good If you have a cuppa in your hand. I understand its easier for cleaning but wheels should be able to be secured. The restaurant was very average, expensive and tasteless. Breakfast was ok, we had eggs, one was fried crispy the poached egg almost raw, The staff also in the restaurant and bar were extremely helpfull and pleasant.
Rooms could do with a freshen up,flooring bent and loose in places.

We had a lovely relaxing staying at the Abode Hotel on Sunday 17 July. We bought a voucher through itison.com and for what we paid for it our one night break was well worth the money. We arrived at 12ish with the intent of leaving our bags and going shopping prior to checking in (as we were too early). However the lovely receptionist gave us an upgrade because the room wasn't ready. We were in Room 205 - it was amazing......the only downside was that the windows were frosted and we couldn't see out - not that we were in the room much! We got robes and the toilettries were so nice - so much so I am going to buy Grapefruit shampoo! The bed was so comfy. There was an aircon unit in our room which we had to use. There were magazines in the room which is right up my street. Dinner was "posh nosh" (in the Michael Caine Bar) so we were kinda hungry afterwards. We both said it would have been better if the voucher was just for bed and breakfast and we could have gone out for a proper meal. We don't do posh nosh. Breakfast however was lovely with a huge choice of juices, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, muffin/pastries AND a cooked breakfast menu too. Would definitely recommend the hotel bang right in the centre of Glasgow, parallel to Sauchiehall Street if you are looking for a shopping weekend.

We booked this hotel for a night and had arranged for family to meet us there where we were treating them to a meal. . Firstly the rooms are tired, the hallway carpets had stains on them and our the grout in the bathroom tiles was brown in the corners also our bedroom ceiling had large areas where the pain is about to fall off. We booked the restaurant for dinner. To be quite frank the food was awful. Chicken wings for starters - i know there isnt much eating on them but this was ridiculous, literally skin and bone and sinue served with 3 leaves from a baby gem lettuce. I had lamb shoulder which appeared on massice plate but only a miniscule portion in the centre. There were 3 tiny tiny mouthfulls of lamb plus a scoop of potato with a couple of equally small pieces of veg none of it even to a particularly high standard. Our guests were too polite to complain to us about there meals but they also looked pretty poor. We complained to the duty manager and she was very polite and discounted part of the meal. Overall though it has been an extremly disappointing experience.

6 of us stayed here this week, to see Take That, in concert at Hampden Park. As airline crew, all of us have stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms over the years, & we were really disappointed here. Whilst the location was brill for Glasgow city centre & public areas were full of art deco charm, our bedrooms x 3 were amongst the smallest we'd ever come across & bore no resemblance to those we viewed on website. Very cramped for more than one person + luggage, very dull & drab &
bathrooms were tiny!
However, we were pleasantly surprised with a rather lovely meal in the bar/grill, which was so good we ended up missing start of show!!The hotel staff were also very courteous & obliging.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend unless you are travelling alone, just
looking for conveniently central bed for a night.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review.

I have today browsed our company website and would have to disagree that the images that are displayed are not indicative of what we have on offer here at ABode Glasgow.

Our bathrooms here at the hotel are individually designed utilising the space available to a maximum, I appreciate that some of our bathrooms do need investment and this is part of our second year investment plan.

Thank you so much for your positive words relating to your dining experience within our BarMC & Grill Restaurant.

I would like to thank you for giving valuable feedback to my team and I. It is through listening to our guests and acting upon their feedback, that will continue to make ABode Glasgow a success.

I look forward to welcoming you back to ABode Glasgow in the not too distant future.

Many Thanks

I stayed in the hotel last week for one night on business.

I arrived late but staff were polite and swapped my room as I wanted something quiet.

I got a huge room in this converted building. The standard was fine but the hotel doesnt know what it wants to be - boutique, business, etc. Some parts of the room like design were great but it looked good over substance. Bedding could have been better and the bathroom needed a much better clean. There was a mix of older and new furniture too.

Breakfast was excellent with a good choice and a cooked to order breakfast. Staff at breakfast were excellent too. Attentive, chatty if you wanted it, etc.

Checkout quick and easy. Bed and Breakfast 94 pound. Not bad.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor

Booked this hotel for a getaway with my partner, I paid a discounted rate through E-bookers but was still over £250 for the three nights. Upon arrival, after the check in time of 2pm, we were told the room wasn't ready and could leave our bags in an adjoining room to reception. When we returned and went to the room, it was very small, and worn. A light fitting above the bath was hanging loose, the towel rail was also loose. Maybe minor things but at over £90 a night I'd expect a lot more. The lack of wifi also was a disapointment

On a positive, the room was quiet even though on one of the busiest streets in Glasgow, the hotel is well situated for the city centre, and the staff very friendly and pleasant. The room also clean and tidy.

If you are at the front of the building on a low floor or any floor for that then don't expect to sleep too long. It seems the hotel is on the main run for all the pubs so when they close it is like sleeping in a footbal match with no windows. Yes there is double glazing but it is cheap and pointless. Lovely old building, lovely staff, good food but CRAP accomodation if at the front of the building. In the morning the hotel will move me to a room at the rear of the buidling and as high as possible so we will see what that is like.....

Room Tip: Do not accept a room at the front of the hotel.
