“Good Hotel with an easy to reach location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2013

I stayed at this hotel in February 2013. Just an overnight stay whilst attending a concert at the nearby SECC. Location was great as it was just off the M8 motorway however you weren't bothered by road noise. check in was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice rooms with individual air con controls. we didn't eat in the hotel so i can't rate the food or service. Good spa facilities and again helpful staff. a great place for staying and I would recommend it. Good brand and you get the quality of service you would expect from Marriott Hotels.

Stated here to enable our family to attend an event at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome - had a large room with two double beds for us and our two sons aged 17 and 21 . Room was ideal and spacious and bathroom fine . Booked via e bookers and got a very decent deal - breakfast was excellent and plentiful . Staff very friendly and helpful. Short walk from station but no problem
Taxi to Veodrome was £7 (from City Centre ) taxi back to hotel £8.60 our only issue was lack of hotels at the Velodrome so if you can book one rather than waiting in a queue
Would recommend this hotel to anyone

I have nothing bad I can say about this hotel. The rooms are very spacious, clean and overall well kept! The staff was more then helpful when asked for recommendations on where to eat or a good local pub (on that note...The Horseshoe) It's a bit of a walk to the City, but this hotel makes up for it.

Nice hotel, not too far from the centre and shops. Only complaint we had was bed was very uncomfortable.(springs sticking through the mattress, pillows very soft) When we mentioned this the next morning we were told we could have moved, but as we didn't realise this until we got in bed, we couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

Stayed here for a family wedding in Glasgow recently. Booked under a special weekend rate of £90 per night including breakfast.
Hotel was only 10 minute drive from Glasgow Airport, so didn't take too long to get there.
Check in was efficient and friendly, told we had been upgraded to an executive room so were quite excited! The room was a king size bed on the 12th floor (executive level) so it was quiet. However, as lovely as it was to be upgraded, the room was tiny! Our sons who had a guest room on a lower floor had a much bigger room with a more modern (ish) loo, better view and more tea, coffee and biscuits. When we asked if we could use executive lounge on our floor we were refused so it wasn't really an upgrade at all. No mini bars in rooms either.
The family used the pool and said that was nice and had a good steam room.
The breakfasts were good with a good choice of cold, continental or cooked breakfast but the square sausage that I was so looking forward to wasn't on the menu, although to be fair potato scone and haggis were! Although busy no long wait for table or for coffee top up.
The hotel is well located, with ony ten minutes walk taking you in to the main thoroughfare of Glasgow City Centre, with a range of shops, restaurants and bars all within walking distance and the river only a short walk away.
Staff were really helpful when asked for information, couldn't fault anyone we spoke to!
As commented on by other guests the Wi Fi is terrible, especially if you are a business guest. Not only is it horribly expensive but is extremely slow, trying to watch you tube or any other video is just not worth it, so if you only use it for reading emails it will cost £6 for an hour or £15 for 24 hours, just not worth it for dead slow broadband.
I am a member of the Marriot Rewards programme but quite frankly this stay would not encourage me to use other city centre hotels unless I can be assured that the hotel is not as dated as this Glasgow one.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less traffic noise but we found king size rooms very cramped.

Good points:

- Rate was £79/night including breakfast for 2. I also got an extra 1000 Marriott Rewards points with that rate. Stayed on the top floor in room 1202 which was good as it was at the end of the corridor and quiet as a result.
- Hotel is located about 10mins walk from Glasgow Central Train Station. If you're walking from the station to the hotel make sure you head for the "lower exit" after passing through the ticket barriers tun left and kind of go back on yourself. This is much quicker than coming out the main "upper" exit. Then when you get down to Argyle St just turn right and keep going for three or so blocks till you reach the hotel. No need for a cab unless the weather is bad.
- Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Including fresh fruit, yogurts, ham, cheese, pastries, muffins, fried & scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, haggis, mushrooms, tomatoes, juices, tea/coffee etc. Although the hotel was apparently very busy we didn't have to wait for a table and there were no replenishment issues with breakfast items despite the restaurant being busy at 9am both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
- Gym: has a good range of cardio machines including about 10 treadmills, cross-trainers, rowers etc. The changing rooms have lockers which are activated with a four-digit code no need for a coin. Didn't use the pool on this occasion but used it on previous stays and found it clean and enjoyable. Plus there is a sauna by the pool.
- Proximity to restaurants: we ate in a lovely Italian restaurant about 5mins walk along Argyle St called "Piccolo Mondo" which was very good value and superb food. But better reserve as it was very popular.

Downsides:
- Like others have said Internet/wifi was chargeable at £15 for 24 hours. For foreign customers wifi is essential to avoid costly mobile roaming charges when using smartphones but £15 for Internet is very expensive. Hotels should take heed and offer complimentary wifi.
- The room was slightly cold and the climate control took ages to make the room warm up however it was a very cold wintry period with outdoor temperatures of minus 2C.
