“Good Choice”
Reviewed 24 July 2009

This hotel is located in the West End of Glasgow. It is a close to the underground station & on a regular bus route. It's a mile or two to the City Centre so that is easily walkable.
The single room was small but comfortable & well equipped. It included tea/coffee facilities, TV, Clock/radio, fridge & hairdryer. The shower room was also small but beautifully clean.
The breakfast is good & served in the room that is used as a bar for the afternoon/evening.
The reception and waiting staff were all pleasant and friendly.
The hotel overlooks a wooded area along the riverbank.
There is a nearby pub and there is some noise from this-but nothing too bad.
There are loads of bars and cafes in the area & the surrounds appear very safe. I had no qualms walking by myself late at night.
All in all a very nice hotel

I am not joking when I say we found bed bugs... plural. We stayed at the Albion hotel last month. We stayed in the family room that had two single beds and one double bed. The rooms looked nice, but when I woke up and went to shower, I found a bed bug on my shirt. We called the manager and she came up. She looked at the beds, said I must have gotten it from the plane and did nothing. The next morning, MORE bed bugs were found by my family in both of the single beds. We complained again and were moved to City Apartments. My dad talked to management at the McQuade Group who own the Albion hotel, and other hotels, and was told that we would get a refund for that night once we email them when we get home after our vacation. My dad has emailed TWICE and we have gotten no response. I loved Scotland... I hated the Albion. It was not how we imagined starting our vacation. I recommend that you do not stay here.

It is also worth noting that we were told that this was not the first time bed bugs were found at this establishment. Obviously their standards are not up to par. (Google what bed bugs look like and then decide if you want to wake up to those).

I'm very sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. The hotel has a maintence contract with Rentlokil who inspect all the premises in the group twice a year and no bugs have ever been found. This contract is able to be viewed at reception along with our yearly environmental health inspection. We take cleanliness very seariously and this is noticable in our cleanliness score on tripadvisor.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights. The hotel was warm and cosy and very clean. The English breakfast was excellent.
The location near the Kelvin Bridge was ideal for bus and metro links to other parts of the city. There were many good restaurants nearby. Kelvin Park and museums were within walking distance. Street parking was free.

If you have a few days to spare and really want to explore Glasgow on foot or by public transport this is the perfect location. It is in a quiet street right beside the Kelvin River near the Kelvinbridge Underground Station on the Great Western Road: which leads on
the right to the town centre and to the left the University area. Upstream the Botanic gardens, downstream the Kelvingrove Museum (all within 15-20 minutes).
There are good eating places nearby (Persian, Italian, Indian) and great pubs too from Woodlands Road to Dumbarton Road and Byers Road. Walking Glasow is best but if it rains the underground is easy to use and the hotel supplies easy to carry umbrellas (which saves you having to bring one with you)
The rooms have all you need with good bathrooms. The breakfast is excellent and cooked while you wait. The manageress (while we were there) was a young woman called Elaine who could not have been more helpful with information about buses (how to get to Pollok Park/the People's Palace etc) and interpreting Glasgow words for us like "Gallus".
We were two pensioners who travelled by low cost flights and wanted to keep within a reasonable budget. There is no elevator/lift which might be a problem for some but there are ground floor rooms if they are available.
We spent five nights there and found we were able to see most of the sites in Glasgow in that time (generally having the good lunchesprovided within the various museums )
A good choice for us: well done Elaine and Co.
