“Basic 4 Star Hotel at the edge of the city centre”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

We stayed during two nights in a standard room with breakfast.

The lobby appears in modern design but this is just the first impression. When you enter the elevator one can see that the lobby is just cosmetics. The carpet on the floors and the rooms is definitely from the last decade and gives a dark look and feel.

Rooms are clean but the air-condition was not working properly in our, so it was really hot (even if it was outside just 20 degrees Celsius).

Breakfast from the buffet offered a reasonable selection with a strong accent on the cooked American/English options. A little disappointing was the coffee that was just "Ground Coffee" instead of filter or machine coffee. But this seems to be the scotch standard throughout the country.

Overall this is a solid hotel with friendly staff that will do for a short stay.

Stayed one night in a standard room. The décor was not as per the photo on our booking email and was indeed rather dated. Could do with being updated.

The toilet, which was in a small cubicle, had a dreadful smell of urine which was most unpleasant. The bath had not been cleaned and had a scum ring around it.

The fire alarm went off fairly early on the Sunday morning. Although we returned fairly promptly no one seemed to be communicating anything. We (and others) decide to go for breakfast and as the gas had been switched off, breakfast was limited for a while - this was understandable.

We ordered coffee but were advised that there was no de-caff. I then had to try and find someone from housekeeping to get some de-caff sachets. After searching on two floors then returned to reception who couldn't help however someone from housekeeping was there who did take the initiative and sorted it.

On checking-out no one mentioned the inconvenience of the fire alarm or the consequent delay from there being too many people wishing breakfast at the same time. No one asked how the stay was. Poor/sloppy customer service really.

Just returned from a weekend at this hotel, not sure if we picked a bad weekend or not but our experience was not that great and we would not return.

Slow service in restaurant on first night, waited approximately 45 minutes for a child's meal and asked for our sharing platter not to have any seafood as my husband is very allergic to it and it was presented to us with seafood.. not a great start! Room was ok but not the best we have stayed in and we paid for an upgrade to executive but our coffee machine did not work so we could not use it for first night, mentioned it to reception at 9am before before we headed out for the day and came back at 4pm and it had still not been looked at, so by now I'm sure you are getting the picture. Our son also got his welcome gift on day two after staff could tell we were less than impressed with the coffee machine not being fixed. My understating is that a welcome gift should be issued upon arrival?!!

Parking at the hotel is also a joke, there is approximately 12 spaces that get allocated on a first come first serve basis which is fine but if you don't get in there you are told of another car park a short distance away, but you get a discount if you are a hotel guest, we did not get told that part and ended up paying full price, it's the little things that make a difference and this hotel have not really cottoned onto that yet.

My overall observation was that the staff were constantly apologising to guests for one thing or another which cannot be very nice for them on a daily basis. I know everyone looks for different things in a hotel but we have stayed in many Glasgow hotels and for me this was by far not one of the better ones.

Room Tip: Be careful about paying extra for executive as I don't really think the 'extra' is worth...

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel, the first time with our grandson, it was booked through itison, the staff are very friendly and go out their way to make you feel welcome. The rooms were clean and spacious and the bar area was very relaxing. There was a small kids play area that was really appreciated on the night. We will definitely return.

This hotel is well located for shopping in Glasgow and anything else central. It is a fairly modern minimalist style. The room was a decent size and clean the bath and shower good. A bit short on toiletries no body cream but otherwise quiet and right temperature which is the most important thing for me. The breakfast is fine, nothing special but plentiful, all self serve. The reception staff are all cheerful and very helpful.

Had booked this Hotel as we were going to see DEPECHE MODE. We were pleasantly surprised. Water in fridge cake and fruit and a lovely big room. Fabulous walk in shower. We had s platter and glass of prosseco on our deal. Comfy bed. Breakfast in a spotless restaurant was very good. The staff were pleasantly Scottish. Nice stay.
