“Pleasantly Surprised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2013

We stayed for two nights, and were a little apprehensive having seen the reviews after we booked.

We needn't have been.

£3 taxi ride from Glasgow Central Station, very friendly receptionist, daughter was impressed to be offered a toy from the 'toy draw'. Obviously low cost, but that's not the point, it made her feel welcome.

Room was on the 5th floor, adequate size, clean, and comfortable. We were persuaded to upgrade to an executive room and that included a Nexpresso Coffee machine (not sure if these are in standard rooms or not). The result is to send me shopping for one of these. Water in the fridge was nice.

The separate bathroom and toilet is unusual, but none the worse for it. The bath is comfortable and the showers exceptional. Nice selection of toiletries (which you won't see in a Travellodge!).

The only negative to the room is the polyester bed covers were very noisy when moved. With a fidget 8 year old it was quite distracting.

Breakfast was pleasant, although the staff seemed to be struggling to keep up. I had a sausage'less cooked breakfast alas.

Some of the staff (with the exception of reception) seemed a little surly, and I did not enjoy waiting for 3 or 4 minutes at the bar while the chap was preparing a coffee for someone else. An acknowledgement, together with a "I'll be with you in a moment" would have been appreciated.

Also twice (separate days) found the cubicles in gents toilets out of paper. Not expected from a 4* hotel.

Location of Hotel was fine - shops just 5/10 minutes walk away.

Overall - We'll probably be back.

Booked this through hotel connections on a DBB rate. 89pp for two nights which seemed a good deal, with the fact we were getting dinner a huge part of the reason we booked.
I had been seriously ill for two months prior to the visit but we decide to go anyway travelling from aberdeen for the visit thought it would be a nice break after a but we thought wrong.
The reception area has had a recent makeover but te rest of the hotel very tired. Breakfast average at best. Separate toilet? Ice machines not working. No signs to the stairs on first floor so going for a cigerette had to use the left which resulted in a 10 min wait each time.
And here is the worst part, I have eaten in restaurants all over the world and te food in this place was actually inedible! Absolutely disgusting, one bite from each course and left almost feeling sick.
Location not really great a bit out of the way. Made our complaints on exit and no real take on board.
I would pick a travel lodge or premier inn any day o the week compared to this place. Avoid!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Tripadvisor following your stay at our hotel
I am appreciative that you brought to our attention that the icing machine is not working and we have straight away fixed this problem. As for the signage of the stairs, I would like to inform you that our stairs are used as emergency exits and clear signage is in place. As for your diner experience, I am really sorry it did not achieve your expectations but I am also really puzzled why you finished your meal and didn’t complaint about it straight away but preferred to wait and feedback when leaving? Would have informed us straight away we might have been able to look into it and make sure that everything would have met your expectations.
Thank you once again for taking the time to share your thoughts and we still hope to welcome you back to the Novotel Glasgow Centre.
Kind regards,

This hotel was pretty cheap but very central and very good for a stay in Glasgow. Front desk was very helpful, breakfast okay (would not pay the stand alone price for it though) If you are in Glasgow for a few nights then this is a good safe bet!

Used this hotel for an overnight B and B stay to attend a function in the City Centre. 5th floor room, quiet, comfortable and well appointed. Staff friendly and helpful at all times and went out of their way to assist and advise. Excellent breakfast with a good selection of hot and cold buffet. While hotel car parking was limited there was plenty of on street parking (free from 6pm to 8am). No complaints a good experience.

Room Tip: Executive room, higher floor, quiet.
