“Good room, soulless restaurant”
Reviewed 23 February 2014 via mobile

I booked dinner, bed and breakfast using Accor points, so got a very good deal. We arrived before the 2 pm check in time but had no problem checking in slightly early. The hotel is reasonably close to the city centre, close enough for us to walk.

Our room was very spacious, with a double bed and fold down double bed/couch. I suspect we may have been upgraded though that wasn't mentioned. Plenty of drawers and coat hangers, though we didn't need them for a one night stay. The separate toilet was tiny and the WC very close to the door. The bathroom was much larger. Everything was clean and everything worked.

Free WiFi is provided, with a paid option of upgraded service. The free service was quite slow but adequate for light web browsing and emails.

The restaurant decor is rather stark and it feels as if it is an extension of the lobby, a feeling possibly exaggerated by my being placed at an opening (unglazed) looking into the lobby area. We were told that the set menu, with three choices, could be replaced by an £18.75 credit against the full menu, but we both chose the set menu. Between us we chose two thirds of the available starters and main courses, and we're well satisfied with all our choices. In contrast, the 'mature' cheddar cheese plate, which included two pieces of red and one of white bog standard cheddar, was a disappointment, partly made up for by the excellent small oatcakes and fresh fruit accompanying the cheese.

The breakfast was very good, with a full selection of cooked and continental food, and natural yoghurt which is not always provided in British hotels. The only disappointment was that, in Glasgow of all places, there were no rolls. The buffet was awkwardly placed close to tables and on the route to and from the entrance, making it awkward to navigate, with lots of 'excuse me' and 'after you' needed.

All in all, particularly at the price we paid using my vouchers, we were very satisfied with the hotel.

We booked a standard room paying £89 for a Saturday evening. On arrival the staff were helpful and, although there was no parking available on site, directed us to the nearest car park which was a few minutes walk away. The hotel itself is perfectly situated for the King's Theatre and Sauchiehall Street.

From the outside and in the reception area the hotel looks bang up to date. Apple Macs are on display and the decor is bright and clean.

However, on entering our room we were taken aback by its extremely basic, tired and dated look. Woodchip wallpaper was the order of the day. The furniture was in need of repair and the carpet and sofa were grubby and in need of replacement. Items like the iron were covered in dust and - worst of all - the bedding had small stains of what we presumed was blood. Bizarrely the bathroom - separate to a basic and tired WC - was brand new and modern.

Like many travellers when we stay in a budget hotel we expect the rooms to be basic but also, really importantly, clean. Perhaps we were unlucky, however, having stayed in a number of Glasgow hotels we won't be returning to this one.

Stayed here with my wife whilst visiting a friend and discovering the Glasgow.
The hotel is very nice, modern and clean as are it's rooms. The location was just perfect for us and as many reviewers said already, the staff is just amazing, doing all they can to help you with all your needs and I had many. I can easily recommend this hotel without hesitation!

Room Tip: Get one of the higher floor rooms, upgrade is well worth it.

Stayed here last Weekend 7th-9th Feb. The upgrade for £15 was well worth the money for the extra facilties in the room, free films and music channels, bathrobe and slippers, minibar and safe. Stayed on the DBB package, menu was a little restricted. the duck starter was particularly small , although it was served on a plate the size of a steering wheel, but the food was well presented and very nice indeed. Breakfast was served from 7-11 am so you have loads of time, its a help yourself operation with a huge variety both in continental and cooked, Saturday morning cooked Breakfast was neither hot or cold but Sunday was bang on, you can have as much as you want too so fill your boots!!!!! Hotel parking is very limited and on street parking is nothing short of extortion, there is a multi storey around the corner which will cost between £14-17 per day, maybe a bit steep but the car is safe. A brilliant stay in a lovley hotel, staff very attentive and nothing too much trouble for them, we would stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms to the back are best, especially at the Weekends, we were told this on checking in and took up...

I've been staying here for several weeks now for business reasons. The bedrooms are always clean and comfortable, with plenty of space. The breakfast is good and meals in the bar and restaurant are excellent. But it is the staff that really make the hotel. They are polite and professional. From check-in, throughout my stay, to check-out, nothing is too much trouble. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for business or leisure.

Sam

We stayed at the Novotel for a weekend away, Arriving early Saturday and returning home late Sunday evening. The hotel is located a mere couple of minutes walk away from the city centre in a perfect location.

We booked an Executive room, Which came with a king size bed and an additional sofa bed, Which was also very spacious. The room was very well kitted out, With a Bose docking station for your iPhone, An expresso coffee machine, A kettle, A mini fridge with complimentary water, And a smart tv full of the latest movies which were free to watch. (We watched At World's End, Which hasn't been out long!)

The room was very spacious, And the bathroom was also very good, A nice large bath with a very good power shower with a very large head on it! The bathroom came complete with extra towels and toiletries

We did decide to go and use the gym, Something we never do! It was great, a little small, But that was a perfect size as there was only three of us, And we had it to ourselves!

The steam room was a little small, The three of us only just got into it, But on a positive side, It was really hot, And did certainly refresh us! The sauna didn't seem to warm up, It might of just needed time to warm up, So i can't comment on that one, And there were a few exercise machines, We had a quick go on them for around five minutes headed out into the town!

All in all, a very good hotel, And we bought this through a deal on lastminute.com costing £51! An absolute bargain for the service we received!
