“Nice hotel”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

Only stayed 1 night at the end of May 2013. The hotel was a little bit of a walk to the shopping centres but it was fine for us. Didn't hear any street noise even though our stay was on a Saturday Night.

The only food we had in the hotel was a breakfast and there were plenty choices for us.

We would certainly consider using The Novotel for our next stay in Glasgow.

We stayed here for one night for a concert. The location was excellent and the staff at the desk were friendly and helpful. The reception was nice with a couple of computers for guests use. Great WIFI to.
The room we stayed in however was disgusting!
The carpets, sofa, curtains and walls were all dirty and very old. We had a modern bathroom with a bath/shower and a sink and a separate tiny room with only a toilet. No sink! So when someone is in the shower and you use the toilet you cant wash your hands. Very strange to have just one part done up and leave the rest.
Everything was just very grubby feeling.
Wouldn't recommend or visit again. Glad it was just the one night!

This is a standard Novotel - basic but adequate, clean and in a central good location in the middle of Glasgow near Sauchihall street (the main shopping street in Glasgow - pedestrian precinct). My room was clean and fairly spacious, but still smelt of stale cigarette smoke, even though it was a 'non-smoking' room. There was a kettle and coffee and tea, an iron and ironing board, but no hair dryer. In June - neither the air-conditioning nor heating was switched on.
Breakfast was good, and choice was good. In the evening, food was reasonable, not very expensive, and portions large.
Overall - not too bad, and not super-luxurious.

Room Tip: Away from the side street - garbage collection trucks are noisy very early in the morning.

My wife and I stayed here for the night whilst attending a show at the nearby King's theatre, as we did not want to rush back home afterwards, we only stay a few miles from Glasgow. The hotel was in a great location for what we wanted, but is not what we expected for a 4 star. We had booked a superior room and were offered an upgrade to an executive room for an additional £10. This gives you additional toiletries, a Nespresso machine, a Bose Ipod dock, bath robe and slippers and premium internet access. The additional £10 was worth it, but we could not get onto the premium wifi, as it does not seems to support all devices. My wife's IPad could not get the login page, neither could my Hudl, but my phone could.

The staff were all very friendly, wherever we encountered them, although I did have one or two issues. The iron in the room did not work, but was replaced within 15 minutes. We went to the restaurant for dinner, the in room information stated this was open from 6 p.m., but we were advised when we got there that they were not opening until 8 p.m. as they had a couple of coaches in for dinner. I felt this was a bit poor that as a resident I was being put off eating in the hotel, however the restaurant manager stated he could serve us if we ordered quickly. This suited us as we were going to the theatre very soon afterwards. The service and the food was good, albeit the selection of starters was not suitable for my wife, so she ended up having a salad which was intended as a main for her starter, but enjoyed it. I had steak and warily ordered medium done, as opposed to my favoured medium rare, as I usually end up having it poorly cooked, however, it was cooked to perfection and was good quality steak.
We had an issue with breakfast, but this was removed from our bill, so I cannot fault the hotel on how they dealt with this issue.

The cleanliness was not what I would expect of a 4 star hotel, the toilet door and frame had dirty finger marks on the inside and was obviously not being cleaned. the walls in both the toilet and bathroom required cleaning. The carpets were stained. The remainder was sufficiently clean.

The bed was comfortable, but I would have expected a larger bed in the executive rooms. There was only one cup provided for the Nespresso machine, which was fine as my wife does not like espresso, but would have been an issue if both of us wanted espresso. However, I'm sure that if asked it would have been quickly provided. There was also only one glass provided, and in the bathroom it was plastic tumblers.

Overall the stay was pleasant and the evening meal was of a good standard. Breakfast requires some adjustment, but there is plenty of choice. I cannot fault the staff at all.

We'd booked and paid for this hotel 6 months prior to our trip, through Booking.com. We arrived late (9pm) as there were problems with our flight being delayed, and on arrival were greeted by a grumpy older counter assistant, who immediately fobbed us off to the junior assistant, seemingly not wanting to be bothered by us at the late hour. We had requested a room for 3 adults, with a walk in shower (disabled husband), and were told on arrival the room we had booked didn't have a walk in shower, and that the request from Booking.com hadn't been passed on. We were then reassigned another room, more suitable, but they had to hurriedly made up the sofa bed as the 3rd bed for our adult daughter. The room itself was ok, beds weren't too bad, but the wake up call at 5:30am with an alarm going off next door wasn't the best. Breakfast, I have to admit, was fantastic, full English/Scottish complete with black pudding and haggis. Very nice. Staff in this area were very helpful and attentive. Parking is terrible at this property, they do have a car park, but getting into it on a Saturday night is not really an option. Trying to find somewhere on the street, when you have luggage and a disabled passenger is not the best. Lots of one way streets in Glasgow, and lots of building work going on. I wouldn't stay here again, because of it's location.

We stayed here ( 2 couples) for one night on 2nd June 2014, The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean although there was an additional Sofa Bed in the open position in our room ?
We were extremely disappointed when after a long day traveling and returning from the concert we attended that we were refused a night cap at the bar !! This was at 11.45 pm .. I don't know if this is policy but I would have thought that being residents and as someone who visits Glasgow occasionally , The rules would be more flexible
Kind of took the shine off ...

We had trouble again booking the hotel via Accor, and ended up just arriving with no booking, even after sending an email direct to the hotel. However, with little fuss we were found a room, and upgraded as per our Platinum Status. Little fuss, just well done and professional.

Room was an updated version of Sheffield, and although no welcoming tray etc we didn't mind given how we had arrived.

Good bed, reasonably quiet room, but view was much better on the other side I think. Quite a lot of noise from the courtyard below.

Good breakfast - although we came down a little later, they cooked fresh food for us, and were very pleasant and chatty, but not too much.

Pleasant stay overall, and will go again I think.

Room Tip: High floor, not overlooking internal courtyard
