“Fantastic central hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

Booked 6 rooms for my friends hen weekend. From the moment I phoned to book the room, to when we arrived, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Some of the rooms weren't ready for the 2pm check in, which wasn't ideal, but they allowed us to hang up our clothes in those rooms and they were cleaned while we were out at a class.

Beds were comfortable, showers were fantastic, and the little touches such as cupcakes and smarties were lovely. We were on the Union street side and weren't bothered by the noise. The room sizes do vary, and we were in a smaller twin, but it was still perfect for our needs. The hairdryer provided when we asked for it was incredible, wish I'd taken a note of the make so I could buy one! Breakfast was delicious, and the price was more than reasonable, far better than other hotels in the vicinity. Planning on going back for a girly shopping weekend.

Room Tip: If you want a slightly larger room, mention this when booking as the sizes do vary.

We spent two nights here and were seriously impressed by its ethos, comfort, decor and convenience. The tone is set by the plate of homemade cupcakes and biscuits even before you reach Reception. Our stay was a birthday treat, so we had booked a larger room at the back of the hotel, overlooking the glass roof of the station and imposing traditional tenement buildings beyond. We were pleased to find a room with simple but tasteful furnishings and colour scheme, complete with some really interesting prints on the walls (the whole hotel has a super collection), such a pleasant change from the usual bland fare. The shower was spacious and efficient and everything spotless. Tea and water are provided in the room, you can help yourself to herbal tea-bags, and fresh ground coffee and milk are available on request. The staff actually seem to care that you are enjoying your stay and are comfortable, reinforcing the 'you never left home' message. The first evening, we tramped across town to an expensive restaurant; the second, we had a delicious 'supper' in the 'Kitchen', made intimate by tea-lights and classical music, where we enjoyed excellent home-cooking with flair for less than half the price, and very reasonable wine. Breakfast was good, too, and service (as ever) efficient and friendly. We slept well on a comfortable bed, undisturbed by the 'thrum' of the station below. We will definitely go back!

I was in Glasgow for a night and found this hotel on the internet........I have to stay from checking in until leaving I found the whole experience excellent! If you are looking for somewhere that cares out their customers then this is the place for you. It the small things that make the difference like freshly ground coffee in my room when I arrived and a homemade cupcake. The team at breakfast were a huge asset to this hotel, really friendly and attentive. Why risk another city centre hotel that treats you like a number or over charges you for basic accommodation....book the Grasshopper!

Great location, friendly staff especially Sean, even arranged to pick up a wheelchair from the Red Cross across town.Spotless rooms and really comfy beds, breakfast superb with freshly baked bread you can even arrange a home cooked dinner from the staff Monday to Thursday.Hidden on the sixth floor of the Caledonian Chambers building overlooking Central station, for us the only place to stay when in Glasgow.

I absolutely adored this place. I travel a lot for both business and pleasure and it takes quite a lot now to really make an impression. Beautifully decorated and presented both inside and outside the rooms. A real treat.

Stayed for 2 nights for shopping trip with two friends, central location to shops. The staff were very helpful and friendly, lovely touch was the cupcakes/smarties and tasty breakfast. My room was small but had the most comfortable hotel bed I have stayed in. Teabags and sugar are in the room but you need to ask reception for hairdryer, milk and coffee. The hotel recommended a restaurant locally and we received 10% discount on mentioning we were staying at Grasshoppers. I would definitely stay there again but would ask for a station side room as my room was in the front and was noisy. My travelling companions were delighted with their two rooms which were very quiet. It is great to find a hotel with traditional values, comfort, quality and customer care. Well done Grasshoppers I would thoroughly recommend it.

Room Tip: Central or station side rooms are quieter.

Having read all the fab reviews I SO SO wanted to love this place!!
It does have a lovely style, it's very central, and the little touches (cupcakes/smarties etc) were a lovely touch. Helpful staff, tasty breakfast, nice toiletires to us and bed linen and mattress to die for!! However...really quirky location....on a noisy street on the 6th floor. Room not huge and bit spartan....epecially with the stripped floors and super high ceilings....maybe a rug, pot plant or a picture on the wall would help...?! Bathroom pod really great idea but tiny space. Felt like whoever had cleaned was in a hurry and had cut corners....scruffs and marks on the walls, paint a bit chipped, hair in the shower, super dirty remote control and dirt on the back of the bathroom door (it's slide one so it wouldn't be visible if the cleaners were in there with the door open!) No milk, hairdryer or coffee in the room. I wasn't offered these when I arrived but later asked at reception and got quite possibly the BEST haridryer ever to use!! :-)
I feel bit reluctant to write these comments as I think the concept of the hotel is fab and I don't want to sound super fussy, but for the price it seems important to mention. It defintely felt like a space for a one night stop in town rather than a holiday destination space to rest and relax...
I really hope I just got the hotel on a fair-weather day....I think it's on it's way to being fabulous but teeny way to go yet
P.s. if you're booking a room might be worth asking for a station side room....the street at the front was NOISY on the night I was there!

Thanks for your review which raises some good points. Firstly your introduction to your room should have included details that fresh ground coffee and fresh milk of your choice would be brought to your room along with cupcakes and goodies. There is an area in your room where the paintwork has been slightly scratched due to occassions when a Z bed is placed in the room. This will be repaired very soon as part of our maintenance programme. The hair in the shower and marks on the pod door surprises and disappoints me and I have brought this to the attention of our our housekeepers. We do have hairdryers at reception for guests to use. They are not in every room as we have a good number of quality hairdryers recommended to us by Toni and Guy. Details are in the guest info manual. We are working on plans to install acoustic glass on the rooms on the Union Street side of the hotel to minimise any noise issues but a city centre at the weekend can be a lively place. Thanks for your positive comments too!
