I love staying in penthouses but his hotel is probably one of Glasgow's best kept penthouse secrets. It's based in the Caledonian Chambers, on Union Street, on the sixth floor, and the first thing that hit me when I walked in, was it's appealing surroundings. It felt like I was walking into a nicely decorated, every so Scandinavian style house, not a hotel. The rooms have high ceilings and have ample space. They have added a SkyPlus box in every room as standard, with movies and sport (if you fancy staying in that is). They have a lounge with fully stocked fridges with a variety of beverages and laptops available. There is also on tap freshly ground coffee and various cup cakes and delights going. The 'Kitchen' is where you have breakfast and where they serve a different three course meal every night. Everything is delicious. Breakfast is included in the price, dinner is optional. Bottled water is free and so is the Wifi. I felt quite at home. Ceiling fans and modern decor throughout the rooms - fantastic. The only gripe (not that I really want to have one, and not that they can do a lot about it) is the street noise. You have to accept that you are in the city and the original sash windows are not going to keep out street noise which starts early and ends late so that's just one thing you need to be aware of. Otherwise it's a five stars from me. You've done an incredible job of this hotel guys. Congratulations! I'll be back.

Room Tip: Take ear plugs.

We stayed for one night - very nice hotel, friendly staff. The room was very stylish and despite the location (next to the central station) it was very quiet. We would return immediately. Try the cupcakes.

Stayed here when I went to Glasgow for the Eminem gig last year. The hotel has character and the staff were really friendly. Great location as its a close distance from the train station. Would definitely stay there again!

We stayed at The Grasshoppers for two nights in June 2014 during a short trip to Glasgow.

I knew from reading other reviews online that the hotel is in an unusual location (it's the top floor of an office block) but was still surprised when we arrived. Do not be put off by the outside of the building! Once you have got out of the lift on the top floor, you are suddenly in a high quality hotel ...and not an office block! The location is very, very central, next to the main station and in a busy shopping street.

Check-in was nice and quick, and we were shown to our room promptly. We had a double room overlooking the roof of Central Station (which was a nicer view than it sounds - we could see right across Glasgow from our "penthouse" location!). The room was very nice - modern, very bright and very clean with double bed, desk, TV, tea making facilities and a very nice ensuite.

The bed was very comfy, and the TV had a selection of Sky HD channels including full sky movies package and Sky Sports 1-4 (unusual for a hotel). The bathroom was very nice and furnished to a high standard although it could have done with a wider shower door to avoid constantly us knocking our elbows! The hotel also had free wifi.

The only downside to the room was its size - it was very, very small with not a lot of room to move around in. In fact, there wasn't even room to lie our case down really! And there was no wardrobe - just a few hangers on a hook. Luckily, the high ceilings of the old building meant that the room was still quite light and airy and did not feel too oppressive!

A nice touch with Grasshoppers was the free homemade cupcakes available in the hallway. They were very, very nice! Also, to make up for the lack of room in the rooms there is a reading room / sitting room where you can sit on comfy sofas and chill in more spacious surroundings with other guests. Free tea and coffee is available in the sitting room, along with the previously mentioned cupcakes! There is also a large bookcase if you are looking for something to read during your stay.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is served in "The Kitchen" a nice homely communal area where you can also pre-book supper for an additional charge on some evenings. The breakfast selection was not as vast as with some hotel buffets, but the cooked items were lovely and locally sourced, and the staff were very nice and friendly during the breakfast sitting.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay a Grasshoppers and it suited our needs as we were out exploring Glasgow and just needed a nice, clean, modern room in which to sleep, shower and get dressed for 2 days. If you were going to be in your room more you might like a larger room (or even another hotel), but it suited our needs fine and provided good value for a quality hotel right in the centre of central Glasgow.

Room Tip: Get a larger room if you can (if you will be in your room a lot during your stay)!

Would not stay here again. The room was a small double & very crammed. No where to hang clothes except for free standing hanger. The room was advertised as having a luxurious bathroom , there was no bath in sight. The bed was comfy & probably the only good thing about this place except for the close proximity to Glasgow central. The room facing union street was exceptionally noisy , no double glazing with building work from the other side of the street going on all through the night. Biggest disappointment was breakfast. Scrambled eggs were like rubber & both sausages and bacon were as tough as old leather boots staff were also not very helpful or forthcoming . One night was enough in this place & was not value for money .

Loved this hotel although had a problem finding it I have to say! Well appointed rooms if a tad hot through the night. No bar but the staff happy to let you BYO and utilize the small dining area to imbibe. Good breakfast and just generally a good option in Glasgow.

One of my favourite hotels in Glasow. Basic but spotlessly clean rooms. An unlimited supply of homemade cup cakes !! Friendly efficient staff. Quirkily pleasant ambience. Great breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Well done Jane and the team in the kitchen, and Diane on reception (sorry didn't catch the receptionist who booked us in, but she was a gem in providing us with cupcakes, freshly ground coffee and milk in a jug). Will certainly be returning for more pampering !!
