“niice hotel shame about the service”
Reviewed 26 October 2009

We stayed at this hotel as we wanted somewhere convenient to glasgow airport and with a nicer restsurant and surroundings than the airport hotels we have stayed in previously. We got a good room price from one of the internet hotel booking sites and read the reviews on here before we decided. I must say as we arrived we were impressed with the hotel and location, a nice area but only 10 minutes or so from the airport. We checked in and went to our room which was a really nice big room overlooking the front of the hotel, our daughters had another room not as big but still adequate and clean as ours was. We enquired what time we could book dinner and chose a time well before the restaurant closed. We had a drink in the bar before dinner and were taken through to the restaurant where we were one of only two occupied tables. The service was not good and certainly not with a smile. The time they took to serve between courses was unnaceptable especially as there were so few diners. We were asked if we wanted a sweet in that way that means you dont really do you ? We did order sweets though and by the time these arrived and we had eaten them it was nearly 11pm. We were chatting having just finished the sweet and the music was turned off in the restaurant which annoyed me greatly. I do not appreciate having a meal served so slowly to be then given the " bums rush" by such an unsubtle hint ! We then went through to the bar to have a drink as no coffee was served and sat in the bar being ignored even though we were the only guests there. I eventually got upand went through to reception where the staff all seemed to be intent on heading for home and asked if we could be served. The night porter was then sent to serve us a drink. I dont know if there was any manager on duty but if there was we didnt see him or her. The next morning the waiter was very nice but the service chaotic, no bowls, no table set for four, waiting for things to be brought like side plates, glasses for juice etc. even though again the restaurant was nearly empty. Food was adequate but not great. Overall a nice hotel in a nice location spoilt for us by the awful service. We left after paying nearly £350 for four of us feeling like the start of our holiday was best forgotten. We then flew to Dubai where we found out what real hotel service can be like.

I have just stayed at the sherbrooke castle and had to write a review - i don't normally, however this has to be the loveliest and most friendly hotel I have ever had the pleasure stay in, from the minute we walked in the front desk was so helpful and efficient with all of our queries - which were many!!. Our room was stunning and we were amazed by the size of it, we also had beautiful views over the grounds which were gorgeous( whoever disagreed with this must have been at a different hotel!! - they have even won awards for them apparantly!) Our room was spotless and the bathroom was huge! i truly felt like a princess for the weekend. We ate in both the bar & restaurant over the weekend and the food was delicious - definitely michelin star quality, the presentation was superb especially the desserts and coupled with amazing service made this a weekend to truly remember. The fact it is a family run hotel really showed we even had a lovely chat with the owner who was charming and gave us loads of suggestions for things to do whilst we were there, in fact everyone went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I have stayed in many hotels and up until now had yet to find somewhere to rival One Devonshire Gardens which was my favourite in Glasgow, The next time we go away we will certainly be booking The Sherbrooke and I would, and already have, recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Glasgow. Well done Sherbrooke Castle we can't wait to return!

We held a wedding at the hotel and could not fault the staff on duty on the day. They were kind, helpful and unobtrusive. The food, guest rooms and function rooms were of a very high standard. Our only complaint was with the grounds. Building work going on while we were there which we had been told would be covered up. A green plastic net didn't do the job and now our daughter's wedding photos are tainted by this being in some shots. Complaint met deaf ears. Stay indoors and don't use the conservatory if you like nice surroundings to look out at.

We stayed at Sherbrooke Castle for 1 night in March 2009. We arrived after a terrible drive from the highlands through a blizzard. The greeting we got at the reception desk was so warm and friendly, that we soon gorgot the ordeal of our drive. We got a fantastic huge room, with a bathroom the size of our house! The room was so cozy we didn't want to leave it, but we went down to the bar at about 7 and had a delicious meal.
We absolutley loved this hotel, and would highly recommend it. We can't wait to go back,

We were a little disappointed to find this 'castle' located within a nice suburb and it wasn't as big as it seemed in the pictures. It was more of a fancy house but it was still an enjoyable stay. We booked an 'Executive Suite' but were again disappointed to find that it was just a plain room with a washroom. I called down to the reception to ask if this was the 'Executive Suite' (as the picture showed a tub and a fancy room - though I shouldn't believe pictures) and they said that it was in fact the Executive Suite. I said that I thought it had come with a tub so the nice person at reception offered to give us another room. We were thrilled when we opened up the door to our new 'suite', they upgraded us to a really fancy suite that I would have called an 'Executive Suite'. We went from a plain room, and a plain bed to a four poster bed, with a sitting area, a hallway with walkin closet and a beautiful washroom with a soaker tub. We were very happy! Then fear set in as I realized that I didn't actually ask if there would be a cost in this upgrade... oh no.. this could end up costing a pretty penny.. oh well, it's worth it!
The next morning we had a nice breakfast in a private dining lounge (there were no other guests around), we had our choice of meal for the breakfast (included) and the staff were all quite friendly. Upon checking out I was sweating but we were happy to find out that there was no charge for the upgrade, phew!

Piece of advice - we would have saved around $14 if we would have known that this place is located a few blocks from one of the train stations, we made our way into the city to have to taxi back to where we just were. I can't remember the station now but ask the hotel before you get there. It is also really handy to get back to the city (faster and cheaper than a taxi, bus..etc). We wish we would have known this!

Sherbrooke Castle is a lovely hotel - it has a very grand exterior, but it is slightly less grand inside, so may not quite live up to expectations. It was built as a private house, but it does look like a (little) castle! We only stayed for one night, but were pleased with our choice. Our bedroom was very spacious, and the shower room was smart, and looked to have been recently refurbished. It had plenty of wardrobe space, a flat screen tv with limited channels and a good shower. On the downside the room was a little dark, and very warm (I expect the rooms to the front of the hotel would be brighter and airier). The bed, although very large, wasn't particularly comfortable. The public areas are lovely though, and it has so much more character than a chain hotel - there is a nice terrace in the grounds where you can sit and have a drink and the grounds themselves are quite grand and well maintained. Staff members were friendly and efficient. The breakfast was buffet style and plentiful, served either in the lounge or in the attractive dining room. The hotel is in Pollockshields, which is a beautiful leafy area of Glasgow with many lovely houses. It is handy for the Burrell Collection, Bellahouston Park and Hampden, but it is 10 - 15 minutes drive from the city centre. I'm not sure what the public transport links are like, though taxis are fairly cheap in Glasgow. Very nice - I would go back again quite happily, and wish I had been able to spend a bit longer there.

Spent last weekend at the Sherbrooke Castle and would definitely not stay anywhere else when visiting Glasgow in the future. Our bedroom was very spacious with large bed, flat screen TV, plenty of wardrobe space and not one but two irons and boards. The bathroom had a large shower and was well designed.

We ate both in the bar and the restaurant and all meals were excellent and very good value for money. my husband's dessert (double choc terrine)was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic.

The hotel is in a very good location for visiting the Burrell collection and Pollock House and we reached the city center in about twenty minutes. The hotel staff were extremely helpful in the dining room, bar and front desk and contributed to making this a very pleasant weekend.
