Reviewed 30 August 2012

Very pleasant hotel.
Centrally, located (walking distance to all main attractions in central Grasgow, very near bus station and near train station.
Reasonable price.
Good restaurant too, spacialising in Scottish cuisine. Excellent haggis (maybe best in Scotland)!
Yo can visit the Scottish Pipers' museum located in the same building: especially enjoyable if you are interested in (history of) music and musical instruments.

This is an excellent hotel in the centre of Glasgow. The rooms are clean and the staff are friendly.

We had our wedding reception here a few years ago and the service was excellent. We very often visit the restaurant for meals which serves excellent traditional Scottish food and the most amazing breakfast.

The Piper's Tryst is small but very well formed. Its staff are welcoming, cheerful and have a well developed skill of making guests feel at home. The restaurant/bar is compact but characterful and although the menu is not extensive, the food is excellent. There is a good flavour of Scottish cuisine, well represented there. Follow the sound of the pipes .....

My daughter booked her wedding reception here last summer. From start to finish Gemma and her team took all the worry out of planning such a special event. Everyone was well briefed and willing to be flexible with the arrangements. On the day, the staff were superb, as was the food and the venue proved to be an excellent choice. Everyone had a wonderful time and our - belated - thanks go to all at the Piping Centre who contributed to making it a day to remember!!

The Piper's Tryst is actually a restaurant with rooms. We stayed with our son and his wife who were visiting from Thailand and they were thrilled with the atmosphere as a piper was playing outside as we arrived. Rooms were large and had very comfortable beds. , large bathroom with shower over the bath. Staff made us very welcome. Position perfect for shopping and sight seeing. A guided tour of the Piping Museum is recommended. Breakfast was lovely and the two men upgraded to the Pipe major's cooked breakfast which includes haggis, black pudding, tattie scone, bacon, egg mushrooms and tomato all made to order and of the finest ingredients.. The bar has a great selection of whiskies but it doesn't stay open late as not officially an hotel. Great experience and very reasonably priced. Give it a try !! Overnight parking next door was £12 so not bad for city centre.

Room Tip: rooms 6 7 and 8 are great but only if fit to climb a winding staircase

Since this is a "restaurant with rooms" there is no dedicated reception to take care of issues. For example, the restaurant waitstaff don't always have correct tourist information and my reservation request was mishandled so that I was forced to move to a more expensive hotel on my last night. The internet was not working at all anywhere in the hotel the three days I was there, though I was told repeatedly that it was and I was even asked to move to a different room where it was supposedly working. Finally the breakfast was shameful. A continental breakfast is fine, but empty jelly jars and cereal crumbs from the bottom of the box leave a bad impression. The rooms are large and clean, as many reviewers have noted, but the mattress was quite saggy.

, General Manager at The Pipers' Tryst Hotel, responded to this review, 3 July 2012
Thank you for taking time to write about your recent stay. We are regretful that you did not enjoy the level of service you received at The Pipers’ Tryst. We are a ‘Restaurant with Rooms’ with a full dedicated management team.

As a visitor attraction with only eight bedrooms we have no need to appoint a receptionist when one of our managers are always on hand, they are much highly skilled and have greater knowledge of city centre Glasgow.

I would like to stress that under no circumstances would we ever ‘force’ a guest to move hotels - we were simply fully booked however, did everything in our power to assist you. Your booking was originally for two nights and when you emailed to request a third we emailed you back within the hour to tell you that we were fully booked. Joanna, one of our senior managers also sent a full list of recommended hotels within the area. This was on Monday prior to your arrival and you were expecting to stay with us Thursday to Saturday night.

Most overseas guests travelling from USA would have called to check the status of their reservation in advance, and of course if you had checked your email you would have known we were fully booked. On check in you also didn’t comment when we checked you in for a two night stay, therefore I can only assume you were chancing your luck. We also offer on-line booking facilities of which you would have seen the no-availability status for your requested third night.

On your assumption we had no other choice than to inform you of this during your stay as you made comment that you would be staying another night. I personally checked all the hotels in the area and gave you a choice of rates from budget to high-end. I called the hotel manager and reserved a room at your selected hotel, allowing you an easy move and offered you a taxi to help with your luggage.

We offer a continental buffet complimentary with all rooms and a full choice of cooked items to order. The buffet has three types of fresh juice, three types of cereal, dried fruit, fresh fruit and over 10 preserves to use with the basket of toast also provided complimentary. For the price of our rooms this is very good value for money.

The complimentary WIFI was down for 24 hours whilst we had engineers re-locate our system; again you were informed of this personally and I offered for you to use the complimentary restaurant WIFI which would have meant bringing your laptop downstairs. However if BT broadband is doing maintenance on the UK network then it is out of our hands of the speed of internet connection.

Thank you for your comments.

I spent 2 nights at the Piper's Tryst Hotel in Glasgow June 2012. I had a big, nice clean room (en suite) overlooking the road. Although it was a lttle noisy, I simply opened the windows during the day when I was out, and closed them at night. That worked just fine. Good cooked breakfasts in the intimate eating room. I also had one supper there as well which was quite tasty. I found the staff very helpful and adaptable. My room was ready early, as I had requested, in order to rest from jet lag. Breakfast trays (fruit, juice, cereal) can be brought up the night before if you are travelling before breakfast time. This little, intimate hotel is about 5 -10 walk to the bus and train station and to downtown. Nice spot. Good value for money!
