“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 November 2011

This trip was to have a look at the university and I chose the hotel due to its proximity to the uni. I shared a room with my 18 year old daughter.I booked a twin room but we had a triple. It was really spacious with a large ?king sized bed and a good single. There was a large desk in the room with a kettle and cups. The room had a hairdryer. The bath room was small but clean, and the towels were fine. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the court yard. It was quiet. There is a bus stop immediately outside the hotel. The hop on hop off stops at this as well. There are many restaurants close to the hotel-Indian, Italian and Greek. Also the Two sisters.

We spend 2 nights (Friday/Saturday). The Friday was Bonfire night and I was slightly worried about parking my little Mini convertible on the road. The side road was quiet with nice looking houses. My car was fine and parking is free after 18h00 on a Friday.

The breakfast room is in the basement. The breakfast is huge and if you are so inclined you could really eat a lot. There were hot and cold options. My daughter is vegetarian and had sufficient hot options. The staff was good despite a packed morning on the Saturday. The end time is a bit early and everybody probably rocked up at the same latest possible time. The Sunday was much more quite as we were there very early.

The reception staff were friendly and I noticed that one of the chaps carried luggage for a female guest. There is no lift and there are 3 floors and a basement, so lots of stairs. They were not particularly steep and were wide and sort of spiral, grand mansion type stairs.

All in all very good. I was told Glasgow was a tip(mainly by people who has not been). We really had a good time.

Room Tip: Ask for a court yard room. The front entrance is on a very busy road.

The reviews were mixed. I was a bit worried about the fact that pets were allowed. The outside of the building does make your heart sink slightly, but once inside it is a lot better. The young guy on reception was very helpful and pleasant. Also the young breakfast helper who was on reception and helpful then too. Our room was in the basement and very pleasant and clean. Plenty choice at breakfast. We discovered that it is very close to the SSEC and would go back again.

Room Tip: We were in the basement which was fine but we couldn't open the windows to let fresh air in as t...

I stayed here a week ago and was surprised how good it was for the money. I then rebooked a week later and was bitten by bed bugs on both my arms. Room 103 should be avoided.

Customer service is excellent at this hotel. We have stayed here a few times and never been disappointed. Despite it being an old building the rooms are well furnished and comfortable and the breakfast is second to none. Nice touch having coffee/tea available in lounge/reception even though there are facilities in bedrooms. Don't know of another hotel which has a large basket of fruit in reception for guests to use. Excellent.

Room Tip: If you are unable to cope with a lot of stairs ask for a room at reception level. Didn't need to...

This is excellent budget accommodation. Strangely enough, we had previously paid more for accommodation in Glasgow which did not offer what this hotel did. Our twin room was small, and we struggled a little with all of our luggage to fit in, however the bathroom was excellent, shower and bath with really hot water. Best of all we were greeted by a very friendly male receptionist. There was free coffee, hot chocolate etc on the ground floor available and excellent wifi. Would definitely keep this one of my 'do again' list

Room Tip: just a 10 minute walk from great shopping areas
