“Ideal for parents of university students”

Having stayed at the Sandyford over the last 3 years whilst visiting our daughter (recently graduated from the Glasgow School of Art) we have enjoyed the light airy clean and comfortable rooms, the cheerful helpful staff and the splendid breakfasts with safe on street parking (subject to rfeasonable meter fees) one could not wish for anything more. Easy walking to the West End- a popular housing area for students and into the City centre with a frequent bus service or many taxis passing the door - our intial choice 3 years ago has not changed.

PROS:

I stayed in the triple room with friends. For about 20 pounds a night, including a full scottish breakfast, this place is DEFINITELY value for money.

Breakfast is great and amazingly, cooked to order. Includes juice, coffee, tea, haggis, kippers, black pudding, sausages, eggs ... everything!

Rooms are airy and spacious (also equipped with tea making facilities).

The reception staff are friendly and helpful.

Showers are great. Really good water pressure and temperature.

Location is quite good. Good walking distance to everything (West End and City Centre) but very far from subway stations.

Walls seem thick. I couldnt hear the crying baby next door at night which was good. Could only hear people in their rooms from the hallways.

CONS:

Far away from public transport, especially subway stations. If you aren't planning on getting taxis anywhere, be prepared for A LOT of walking! About 10 - 15 minutes walk to anywhere.

Security is a really lacking in this place. They hand out keys to anyone who asks (never double checking) and during house keeping time they leave all the doors to all the rooms wide open. Not sure why they do this, as they could open the windows for airing. I could have walked into any room and helped myself to anything inside if I wanted.

House keeping is pretty much not there at all, (but what can you expect for such a good price). We had to ring down stairs for toilet paper twice, as the housekeeping didn't replenish ours. Beds aren't made up and neither are the cups cleaned (at all) or soap stocked up.

Mattresses are dated. My single was very noticeably sunken in the middle, but I still slept fine at night because I was so exhausted.

Road noises are very audible through the windows. Bring earplugs if car noises disturb you.

TIP: Make sure you bring a padlock and lock all valuables in your suitcase when leaving the room.

TIP: Ear plugs if road noises bother you.

TIP: Bring your own soap! Most hotels provide soap at the very least, and Sandyford does provide soap on the first day, but never again after that. To save you from walking downstairs to reception every day to ask for new soap (as there is usually only one staff at reception, you have to pick up things yourself) I suggest you bring your own soap!

TIP: Take the 747 Airbus, it stops right outside the hotel pretty much, just let the bus driver know where you want to go.
You can take the X500 express, but the stop is 25 - 30 minutes away. But a taxi from that busstop to the hotel costs less than 5 pounds.

Room Tip: If you have a lot of luggage, ask for a room on the ground floor as there are no lifts. Not sure...

Wasn't sure what I was going to get for £36 per night for a single room so was a little apprehensive however I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was large (as large as the bedroom!) with a bath and over- bath shower - the shower had good pressure. Bed comfortable, pillows could have been better but fine. My room was on the ground floor near the reception but there was no noise during the night so had a good sleep. The breakfast room was hot and airless with the smell of the cooking but otherwise OK. Good selection of cereals, juice, fruit, yoghurt, toast, croissants (could have been better!) etc AND a cooked breakfast - all for £36. The hotel is popular with young people (backpackers etc) but there were some older tourists, people on business and workmen. Argyll Street has plenty of restaurants and pubs to suit all tastes. The hotel is just 5 mins to the Kelvingrove Museum and 10 mins to the University, walking.

Stayed here for 4 nights for a conference at the university.

Room comfortable and well decorated. Ensuite compact but functional.
Wifi worked in the room with good speed. Staff very friendly and helpful

Excellent full scottish breakfast.

10 min walk to university. Lots of restaurants nearby.

If coming from airport, take the 747 airbus - stop is just opposite from airport.
I took the X500 airport express but the nearest stop is a good 25-30 minute walk away (some of it uphill which may be a problem with baggage)

Highly recommended and only paid £30 per night!

Stayed 4 nights for Conference at SECC.

Clean and quiet. Room small but comfortable. Bathroom tiny but perfectly functional and clean (a larger person might struggle). Thermostatic radiator valve a bit temperamental so radiator either hot or cold. However, I got a very good and comfortable nights sleep. Free Wifi worked fine and a decent speed which is great whilst away on business.

Reception and all staff were efficient and polite.

Plenty of restaurants in area (recommend Villa Toscana - see my review), SECC 10 mins walk, Airport 10 min drive (£20 taxi) and bus route to CIty Centre is close.

Very friendly staff, checked in at 12.45 which was early but allowed into the room no problem. Room was acceptable condition, bed not a luxury hotel bed but ok. Tea and Coffee free in the lobby and in the room (Branded - not cheap and nasty which was a nice surprise)

Breakfast was excellent. all cooked to order in view by a hard working chef. I had kippers and Haggis - excellent. Lidl yougurt, lots of fruit and cereals,

Negative point - cold shower
Plus point - price

parking was ok on the side street and unrestricted at the weekend. location very handy for SECC/ kelvingrove / town centre a short walk away. lots to do around Argyll st.
