“Very disappointed”
Reviewed 20 November 2010

Stayed here with my boyfriend in October 2010 having never visited Glasgow before. What we were not told when we enquired about booking was that the main hotel was fully booked and when we arrived we were shown down a side street to a few rooms in an older part of the building. It was dark and dingy and they had tried to squash a tiny bathroom with shower cubicle, tiny cloakroom size sink and toilet in a corner of the room which didn't really work. Lamp bulbs were blown and asking for replacements resulted in wrong bulb sizes so still a problem. Off the entrance hall were obviously other rooms of which the one next door we were told somebody stayed permanently. Prob was "he" smoked and this filtered somehow into our room yuk! On turning up for breakfast, we found it chaotic. Not enough tables to fit everyone so all of us lingering around reception area waiting for someone to come up and say "whose next" only to find that inevitabley EVERYONE was going to say "me"!!! If you do go, try the main hotel but don't pay for breakfast!! Go to a lovely local cafe as there are so many to choose from. We would not go back there but would go to the hotel opposite withthe Bukharah restaurant as we found ourselves being drawn back there for a fantastic atmosphere and really trendy decor.

The Sandyford is located on the end of Sauchiehall Street, in quiet suburban area of Glasgow. Its about a 15-20 minute walk to the city centre which is a bit awkward unless you use taxis. The rooms and the hotel itself are hardly plush or extravagant but they do offer good value for money. The floor is slightly uneven (probably due to being and oldbuilding) and our toilet is a bit dated also.

However, the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in, in any hotel and the room was clean and had a flat-screen TV. We only made it up for breakfast on one occasion but it really was delicious - we have poached eggs, haggis, sausages and mushrooms.

Staff where reserved but friendly and they had 2 computers with free internet access in the dining area.

All in all, great value for money but maybe not the best for location if you want to explore the city centre of Glasgow.

I can only reiterate the views of many other customers. This hotel provides excellent value. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were pleasant, polite, and above all helpful. The breakfast selection was amazing, with the option of seconds if required. How anybody could manage that is beyond me. The reception area was always clean & bright, and there was always fresh fruit available for people to help themselves. One word of caution to those less able bodied than some. There is no lift.
The location is ideal. Within easy walking distance from the Kelvingrove Museum & Art Gallery, and about 15 munutes walk from the city centre.

This hotel is well worth the money. Don't be put off by its 3* status. We stayed because our son has moved into student accomodation round the corner. The triple room we stayed in was fresh and clean, beds were comfy, great facilities. Breakfast was a bit of a challenge because quite a small dining-room for the amount of rooms in hotel but well worth the 5 minutes we had to wait for a table. Breakfast was outstanding. The staff throughout our stay were very friendly and helpfull, we will definately stay again

I have stayed at the Sandyford numerous times over the past couple of years and always found the staff very helpful and friendly. The rooms are basic but clean
The breakfast has to be seen to be believed.
Location is excellent with a bus stop to the city centre right outside the hotel front door.
A short walk takes you to the West end nightlife and in the other direction 10 minutes by bus takes you into Glasgow City Centre shops and nightlife.
Will certainly use this hotel whenever I am in Glasgow

I stayed at the Sandyford for two nights in April while attending a conference. I was initially apprehensive about the trip, the room had cost me £35 for a single en-suite room and I really didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised on arrival to find a clean and modern room with an LCD tv and other frills that I simply hadn't expected for the price. The bathroom looked like it had been refurbished less recently, although it was still fine. The breakfast was fantastic; there was a buffet selection of cereals and fruit, and a made-to-order hot breakfast on offer. The location is very convenient to the University and is walk-able to the centre of Glasgow, there are also lots of nice pubs and restaurants close by.

A couple of issues:

Reception ask you to hand in your key when you are not in the hotel - this can be annoying if you come in late and there is nobody around reception.
There's no secure left luggage room.
Sauchiehall Street is very noisy and the windows are not double-glazed. If you're a sensitive sleeper and have a front-facing room, you might need earplugs.

For the price, the Sandyford is unbelievably good. I'll definitely be returning next time I'm back in Glasgow!
